The most serious ebay bug I have ever seen in almost 15 years
This last Friday sales were going great, then come Saturday they went down by 95% and have not recovered since.
I found the issue and reported it but I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon.
When a buyer makes an offer and the seller accepts it, nothing shows up in pending payments on the seller's side or in the purchase history of the buyer. I just called in a report showing ebay the proof of this. The one are that shows it as pending payment is in the items offer history. But the item is still available for purchase.
Yeah I know, when I see the posts here about sales down I roll my eyes also but this no a crying wolf scenario.
It appears another update to something on ebay was rolled out late Friday or early Saturday that has affected many different areas of ebay. There are many other issues that have resulted from this bug that I will not mention for now.

·1 year agoToday I was doing a bunch a new listings when photos suddenly stopped uploading properly (Mac laptop). I saved the draft listing I was working on, closed the browser, restarted everything & didn't think much of it, assumed it would resolve quickly. Then when I opened ebay from other devices (iphone & iPhone apps) I saw that multiple listings from other sellers weren't showing images normally either, just the blank white box with tiny "?" icon in the middle. Wondering if this is only impacting Mac users or if Micosoft and Android users are having the same problem? Impacting my ability to put up new merch today which negatively impacts sales.

·1 year ago@shakasurfstyle there are many other reports of this from many sellers, and I can confirm it's affecting my selling account as well. We don't yet know what's going on, but it's not you or your computer.

·1 year agoOh my that is worse than how I read it. That definitely sounds like a problem. I think most of us read the post assuming you were the seller, but if you can't pay and your seller can't even see the offers, something is seriously amiss.
I wonder if it's a sitewide issue or only affecting certain accounts...

OP1 year agoI knew sales had declined by 95% late Friday/early Saturday. Just by coincendence I made offers to another seller as a buyer and disovered this bug. This bug explained the drop in sales for me as a seller. The other seller and over a dozen more large volume sellers confirmed the same thing to me, that sales went to almost nothing last Saturday.

·1 year agoAs @kensgiftshop said, there is formally no transaction yet to be posted in your accounts section.
Did you try clicking on the details of the specific listings in question,
click on manage offers,
check the left column of offers,
see if it is listed under "pending payment"
It will stay there, not be an official order & remain active for sale to others until checkout is complete.
Best of luck with shop & sales

·1 year agoFor what it's worth sales are down here too. Abysmal the past few days.

·1 year agoI have been experiencing lulls on every new update since...well it has been so long I don't remember that far back.
I guess that is why they do soft launches and gradual rollouts. Can you imagine a site wide screeching halt every time they add or subtract something?
tarotfindsandmore
·1 year agoOP, you may want to post this over on the Technical Issues board. It does sound like something has gone sideways as you should be able to see the "pending" transaction in your orders, even while the listing is still live. I think other posters are mistakenly assuming you weren't aware that the public side remains the same until payment has been completed. It's pretty clear that you were aware of this and that you probably have more familiarity with the way offers currently work than most of us (based on your feedback).
You're likely to keep getting the same replies here in Selling. There's an awful lot going on with tech issues, again, so you might have better luck posting about your situation where others dealing with the same thing can weigh in, or at least corroborate the experience.
kensgiftshop
·1 year agoThere is no pending transaction.
There's nothing until the buyer pays.
Accepting an offer is like handing some one a coupon, it isn't worth anything until the buyer uses it and pays.
tarotfindsandmore
·1 year agoThat is incorrect. Once the offer is accepted it will show "awaiting payment" in his orders and pending on the offers page associated with the listing. It drops off his dashboard after 96 hours if it isn't paid. In the meantime, the listing stays live for other potential buyers.
The OP knows what he's talking about. There are others experiencing the same issue on the Technical Issues board.

·1 year agoThanks for the info.
I guess I was "participating" in the slow roll as well.
Lately, when I (or my buyer) accept an offer, it does NOT show on the order/account page until checkout is complete.
I am finding myself having to scroll through the managed offers of individual listings to check on status.
Conversely, I have some items that were purchased/shipped/delivered/completed months ago that appear in the manage offers section of a listing as "pending payment"

·1 year agoThe orders page is a mess right now for a lot of people. I recently logged in and the only thing that was being displayed were cancelations. It stayed like that for a couple of days and then resolved itself. I used the app to process orders while it was doing that.
"Offers" have been doing odd things for the past several days. The OP did move this conversation over to Technical Issues so others could weigh in and it looks like he's not alone.
pikabo-icu
·1 year agoBut what they are posting about per offers is being unable to make one.
I didn't see anyone with the issue the OP is talking about. Unless I'm missing it.
I have seen a LOT of people complaining about the new offer system they are rolling out.
It causes people to be unable to pay for multiple etc..
Anyway.. Perhaps it's a bug it just seems much of what's described is part of this new offers plan they "fixed" for us.

·1 year agoThat's not how I read this...
"When a buyer makes an offer and the seller accepts it, nothing shows up in pending payments on the seller's side or in the purchase history of the buyer. I just called in a report showing ebay the proof of this."
I believe he's saying the offers are being made, (he) the seller has accepted them, but nothing is showing up on his dashboard after the acceptance. The transaction is also not showing up on the buyer's purchase page.
That is definitely a glitch.
pikabo-icu
·1 year ago@coins_artifacts It's not a bug.
It's designed so sellers don't miss out on a possible sale, waiting for a buyer to pay after making an offer. Also it would take 4 days for a seller to be able to file a non paying buyer and relist the item.
So this is by design and for the benefit of sellers.

OP1 year agoOk, I think I did not explain myself.
The accepted offer is NOT repeat NOT showing up in my admin as pending payment thus a item not paid case cannot be opened.
The purchase is NOT repeat NOT showing up in the buyers purchase history so he has no way to pay and does not even know that his offer was accepted.

OP1 year agoLast Friday I had made like 25 offers to the same seller on 25 different items. He accepted them all. When I went to my purchase history they were not there waiting on me to pay. the seller had auto pay turned on. But nothing got paid.
I then clicked on the my offers page and there they were. They all said offer accepted by the seller. They should have been in the my purchases area and they should have been paid automatically.
I contacted the seller and he said that yeah his sales dropped to almost nothing on Saturday also, and that he had several of payments for my items error out. He had now way to send me an invoice and they were not showing up in his admin as pending payments from me. So we agreed to wait until Sunday. Come Sunday they were still in my offers page but not orders page so I went ahead and manually paid them from my offers page. Well I had plenty of money in my ebay blanace to pay for them all and then some.
Three payments went thru fine, Then they stopped, getting the error message to select another payment method and the use ebay funds was whited out on al lof the purchases after the first three. I called this error in and the ebay agent agreed it is a ebay error and advised me to wait 24 hours to see if it was resolved Well 24 hours later it was still not rsolved so I just used my cc card to pay the rest.

·1 year agoSometimes it has to do with a buyer's credit card where it can get max out or if a buyer needs to text or call credit card to OK the sale that the buyer is making.
I don't know how expensive items are but the high items might need a call or text to OK the sale by the buyer.
And trying to put through the credit card through 3 times...4th time credit card it blocked by the bank.
And if a buyer hasn't made a purchase in a long time on the credit card...and makes a large purchase...credit card company ask for answers to questions that were in place years and years ago.
I have a hard time using my credit card I didn't use in a long time to buy an Apple computer across the street from the bank...LOL
Bank would not OK sale while I was in the bank...on the 4th time the bank blocked my credit card while in the bank. It took an hour with the bank to allow me to buy the computer even though I was in the bank across the street from the Apple Store...even though I have lots of money in savings...
Credit cards and banks can be weird sometimes.

@coins_artifacts
You have turned off the "Buyer Rules" so you do not require a payment source upfront that would interfere with sold items and invoicing. However, with regards to this issue, please check to see if you accepted a COUNTER OFFER. If you accepted a buyer's counter offer, they are not notified, may not even know unless they happen to view their "offers" page. These accepted counter offers are now treated differently by eBay. A seller cannot send an reminder or invoice for a counter offer they accepted. The buyer does not have to pay, and cannot be given an unpaid cancellation strike after 96 hours as would be the norm. Can't combine shipping, and each item must be paid for separately or THEY REMAIN FOR SALE UNTIL SOMEONE BUYS IT.

·1 year agoeBay no longer ends the listing when you accept an offer.
The listing is still "live" and anyone can still purchase it at full price until the buyer you sent the offer to either times out or pays.
This is not a glitch and has been happening for a while.
This way sellers dont lose time with listings waiting on payment and having to relist.

OP1 year agoThe ebay reps I reported this too and showed the proof of certainly saw the urgency of this and agreed it was a serious issue.
jonathanbrightlight
·1 year agoeBay phone reps have an unfortunate reputation for saying whatever they feel you want to hear just to get you off the phone. This is not an issue nor a glitch, it is the way things are intended to work, but it does differ depending on whether you are dealing with a seller-initiated offer, a buyer-initiated offer, or a counter-offer (I can't recall exactly which ones work which way right this moment).

·1 year agoI truly believe that's what they told you ... and you believe it?

·1 year agoeBay CS is known to tell people what they want to hear to get you off the phone.
WE all understand that you think it is a glitch BUT eBay has now changed how offers are handled.
You accept the offer. The listing stays live until anyone buys it.
It is not pending payment because the listing is live.
There is no more pulling your listing down and waiting for 4 days to file and then relisting.
kensgiftshop
·1 year agoRight, until the buyer pays, it's just an offer.
It stays active until the buyer pays, so anyone can still buy the item at full price.

Sir I get offers all the time. When I accept a offer it becomes an order and shows up in pending payments.
Yes.
You are the buyer.
You are being billed for the accepted Offer.
Until you pay, the seller can accept another (possibly higher) offer.
The listing remains active until you pay.
