The highest approval rates in the community?
Summary: In the discussion, participants explored the approval process for posts in a community forum, with powell-collectibles questioning if additional comments result in extra points. Several users, including gurlcat and mam98031, described experiencing unexpected approval notifications, even when no links or images were involved, leading to confusion over how the system works. Some participants conducted experiments to determine if posts are always visible before approval. The general consensus suggested that certain triggers, like specific words or images, might flag posts for review, though no definitive explanation was reached. Several participants also made lighthearted comments about the situation.
Seriously – do I get any extra points for having so many comments

·3 weeks agoI doubt anyone is reporting anything - the janky ai used here probably just flags certain words and all photos. There's no thought behind it - ai doesn't think, it just processes.

·3 weeks agoOne of the first comments I made on this forum, somehow had to go through the approval process. I wasn't sure what triggered it at first, and wondered if it was a particular word I used, or the topic. Being a newer member, I decided that if it got caught in some filter, maybe I should just remove the comment. So get this, the same comment that got stuck in the approval filter, was denied removal! I guess if they decide they want your comment posted, they REALLY want it! 🍿😂

·3 weeks agoHappened to me also. I posted a question and got an answer. I asked the mods, as the OP with my question answered, to close the thread I started. They denied my request!

·3 weeks agoNot so sure you are the highest. I get quite a few of those. I also wouldn't be so sure someone is turning you in.
Anytime you post a picture or a website link your comment will have to be approved. You can see your comment if you are signed in but no one else will see it until it is approved. If you sign out then you will not see your comment until it has been approved.
Also certain key words will require a review.

If so it appears the Central Scrutinizer may have your number..............................

OP3 weeks agoNah, the posts are active, then someone reports them, then mods figure out that the posts are fine, then I get the “approved” notification.
albertabrightalberta
·3 weeks agoAs much as you like to think they're being reported but then approved, that's not the case.
The posts you're making that get approval weren't live yet. You're able to see them because you're logged in.
If you C&P the URL, log out and try to view your post/URL, it won't be there.

OP3 weeks agoI might actually take your point if I didn’t have replies the messages before those reports, reviews, and approvals.
gurlcat
·3 weeks ago · EditedYeah I'm having that too, and even some getting approved TWICE, hours apart.
I think it's from being reported too. You wanna test it with me ? -I would say go ahead and report this reply, but then if a mod read it, who knows what they'd do, LOL!! So rather, one of us could make a comment to an existing post -feel free to on one of my recent ones if you like. Make it "marginally critical" but not outright insulting, something like "You need to refresh yourself on this policy." Then I'll report it as mean or whatever, and you can tell us whether it gets removed, approved, or no notification about it.

OP3 weeks ago@gurlcat
I’ve done you one better - I just ran an experiment/prove out of your supposition.
I went to a post from the other day - one of mine that already had replies (https://community.ebay.com/forum/selling-57920/topic/no-to-free-returns-481662/).
I had another account “flag” that post.
Sure enough, a couple of hours later (today) I was given the message that my post from yesterday morning was approved.
mam98031
·3 weeks agoThe poster of a post does NOT get a notification that someone else has reported a post they made @gurlcat .
The notification or flag that a "post successfully reported" is something the member that is actually reporting a post will see. But NOT the member of the post in question / reported.
gurlcat
·3 weeks ago · EditedNobody is claiming that the person being reported gets a notice of it.
That is NOT what this is about.
If someone reports one of your replies, you don't see anything until the mods decide whether to remove it or approve it. If they remove it, you get a notice of that (like the reply of mine you just had removed). If they approve it, you get a notice of that. That is how you know someone reported it.
And no it is NNNOTTTTTT just a delayed approval, because like @powell-collectibles and I have observed, it happens when we know for a fact the comment was already posted and visible, because we already had replies to it.

OP3 weeks agoDebunked!
gurlcat
·3 weeks agoI think you mean "confirmed" -I know "debunked" can mean confirmed, but to be clearer for those with reading problems, your experiment shows that your and my suspicion was correct. Thank you so very much!
powell-collectibles
OP3 weeks agoYes, our supposition confirmed. The thought that our posts were not visible and waiting for approval before going public is debunked :)

·3 weeks agoI don't recall any of my posts needing to be "approved" except for one, earlier today, which was approved within a few minutes.
It appears to me that if all or most of your posts need to wait for approval before others can see them, that is not really something to be proud of. Quite the opposite.

OP3 weeks agoYou didn’t crack the code? I get those “hits” when a certain seller’s assistant is active.

If my actions annoy Corporate AI, that may not be so bad.

·3 weeks agoI've been considering making a post about this 'approval' thing myself, because I wondered if it was just me.
Used to be, approval was only "needed" for posts or replies containing web links or images (the former I understand, the latter not so much). But lately I've been noticing lots of random "approved" notifications for posts or replies that I made which contained no links or images. And they were already posted, not delayed until approval, like the links/images ones are.
Last night I even had the same post "approved" TWICE, hours apart. So bizarre.
mam98031
·3 weeks agoBecause you can see your post does not mean that everyone can see your post.
powell-collectibles
OP3 weeks agoWhen people reply to it, it is visible.
