the end of selling on eBay
Well, I was a 100% eBay reseller. eBay screwed me over after previously committing to refund me for purchase with two cases against the seller. I had fun at the eBay Open this year. All this hard work top rated plus power seller with 100% feedback now history. See you on other venues. [Edited by Moderator]

What's the point of posting old news that's unrelated to anything being discussed?
kchcollectibles
·8 months agoYou sound like Trump discussing the Epstein list.
I'm sure it's not "old news" to the people harmed by eBay.

·8 months agoThe execs who did that were actually charged, prosecuted and sentenced. Not the same at all.
Either way, this is the eBay discussion boards, not Reddit, we try to stay on topic.

·8 months agoIf you don't want to resell anymore, why don't you sell your inventory to another reseller? You will get more for it than if you donate it for a write-off. Good picker-type inventory is getting harder and harder to find, at least where I live. If you have good eBay-resellable items, I am sure someone will want them.
Before you burn any bridges with eBay, I'd take a step back and think about things for a while. You may change your mind in the future, or something may happen with your retirement plans and you are forced (not a hobby) to have to make money again. The job market right now is a total nightmare, and it is exponentially worse for older workers. Keeping your eBay account inactive with 0 items but still alive gives you options in the future. Don't burn the bridge.

OP8 months agoThank you but eBay did something unethical and I do not give my money to someone that did this to me. I will never buy or sell again on this venue. Someone has to stand against this machine and I have no problem doing it.

·8 months agoeBay isn’t a someone, they are a multi billion corporation. They didn’t get there by being ethical neither did any of their competitors.

·8 months agoUsually when someone says they are leaving eBay I check their "view listings" & see they still have lots for sale.
It's nice to see someone who actually follows thru on what they say & ends all their listings.
I do find it a bit odd to stop selling on eBay over a problem with buying on eBay. I don't think I've seen that one before.
Regardless, best of luck with your future endeavors & the pending retirement! eBay will always be here if you decide to give it another try.

·8 months agoSorry to see you go after 2 cases decided against you.
If it makes you feel any better, ebay almost always sides with the buyer.
We've all experienced it.
You have to factor these occasional losses into your business plan.
Good luck to you elsewhere.

·8 months agoeBay sides with the buyer because the buyer can go to Amazon to buy stuff. It's probably a lot harder for a seller to move their stuff to another venue, and most of the time when they say they are done, it's just blowviating ... kinda like all of those Americans that were going to move to Canada if the Orangutan's son was elected. Didn't happen.
Speaking of favouritism, ever wonder why there is no thumbs-down 'Not Helpful' icon on these threads?

Not sure what 'favouritism' has to do with it. What would stop some vindictive sellers from trashing their competitions' posts with multiple thumbs down?
grann-4629
·8 months agoThe remark about favouritism relates to the comments that suggest eBay favours their buyers, not sellers, that has been made many times in these discussions.
wrt the helpful button thing - I can only post 1 (one) thumbs-up Helpful per thread - if I try to add a second one, it eliminates the first one. I would assume the rules for thumbs-down Not Helpful clicks would be the same. Therefore, It would take a bunch of sellers with the same problem to trash any competition, not just one.
If I like what the poster said, one click on the thumbs-up .... if I don't like it, I have to write an essay to explain why.

With the way some ops' react with anger and disrespect when they are not agreed with in here, cant imagine what a back and forth mess that would be with helpful posts. Its best not to 'assume' anything with Ebay.

·8 months agoI would give it some time before discarding all your hard work. Most of us have had some faulty returns and ebay does provide some automatic protection if you qualify. It looks like you did qualify by being a TRS and offering free returns, so I would take advantage of that. I never want to depend on ebay to give me anything otherwise. It cuts down on the frustration for things I have no control over plus I don't want to give up the money I make selling here.

·8 months agoCertainly your decision........but selling here since 2002 and sales of over 1400 this year would make me stop and think.......

OP8 months agoGood insight but when eBay says they are going to refund you for a transactional issue that was their fault and then, they change their mind, w/o any explanation, my decision is correct.
This issue had to due with a seller and two cases: Item not received and Item not as described. I the seller shipped an item from CA to PA and the tracking said delivered after one day.
Ebay said the item was delivered on December 7. The item shows delivery on December 12 which is correct and documented on the FedEx website. The website shows two shipments and my shipment was the later.
I opened the box and the items were not as described. I could not open an item not as described because the other case was still open. I escalated on December 12 and eBay did not straighten things out until December 18.
I immediately opened the case but it was passed a imposed three day limit. The item had no returns on the listing and described as parts. The items were wore out and could not be used as parts.
Numerous calls to Ebay initially yeilded a positive outcome for me due to a transactional error on eBay's end. I should have been allowed to open the second case within the three day time frame.
All good, as for other venues, I have connections as I am in niche category. I do this for fun and my profit is minimal. The fun is gone on eBay.

·8 months ago@murphken did u reach out to their social media sites? or open cc disputes?
it seems u had waaaay more great transactions compared to just these 2, and customer service calls are notorious for giving false info

·8 months agohey @murphken do this>
Contact eBay via their social media sites with a private message:
https://www.facebook.com/ebay
AND-OR
https://x.com/askebay
AND-OR
https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
Great customer service on all three
Even if u don't do social media, u can just open an account for eBay purposes only

OP8 months agoThank you for your insight. I will open an account but really lost any hope. I just do this for fun. My main gig is engineering and I was ready for retirement and selling on eBay. I have around $400K (cost) in inventory that I was holding on to due to tax implications. No more fun so I will just give it to donations and write it off. Harder to write off due to all the tax changes with you know who. Oh well! Still > Screw eBay.

·8 months agoKen, seems like your issue was one you had as a buyer and not a seller? Dispute the charges with your credit card and open your store back up.
stainlessenginecovers
·8 months ago@murphken For fun? I find that VERY hard to believe.
Over 200 items sold a month and 14,000 sold for your account. That is NOT 'for fun'.
But, the real point is:
How many of the 600 items the past 90 days you sold stuck?
How many were 'scammed' or 'returned'? 2,3, 10? WHO CARES??? That means 590 stuck. I'll bet you made a few bucks and now you are willing to make nothing??
stainlessenginecovers
·8 months agoSomeone that sells 200+ items per month over 2 issues??
Cut off nose/Spite Face
Wonderful business decision.

·8 months agoWell Ebay isn't here. You are just venting to fellow buyers and sellers who are here to answer questions and give you advice. If you want to give us more details on your situation to help understand your situation better that's fine but you don't have to announce your departure here.
onefootflipper
·8 months agoHe had a great business, 7 sales a day, multi-quantity items. It would have taken a hell of a lot more than 2 lost disputes to make me shut that down. Even if it was his 2 most expensive sales from the last 90 days that just still would not have made me flinch. Make me learn how to handle disputes better if perhaps I did anything wrong, but I would not have shut down a 650 item multi-quantity store over $300.
bonanza125
·8 months agoYou and I both know that disputes are part of the business. Things happen. Unfortunately for some sellers they can't handle disputes or are one sided then if something doesn't go there way they leave. Which is fine. Sometimes it's best to retire or find another site to sell on if the terms which are laid out aren't agreeable. The fact is most other sites have the same policies or situation happening.
onefootflipper
·8 months agoDefinitely throw your whole business away over a few buyer disputes.
You can enjoy that high ground while finding out how impossible it is to sell anything on the competition's websites,
magicjohnsonsvariety
·8 months agolol it's not impossible to sell on other websites...i sell more things on etsy than i do here. And everytime ebay takes something down for stupid reasons i just sell it on etsy...
I understand exactly what the OP is saying and why he would be upset. Long time sellers should be respected more. Ebay is no longer the only place in town...

·8 months agoWell, despite the problems here, I don't like to see a good seller leave the site. Maybe in the future venture back in again, with some specific test items and give it another try. I think after getting burned, maybe change the items, perhaps less expensive ones, change the strategy and risk levels to be ones you are more accepting of. Because all of us don't win our problem orders all of the time. Even ones we think are very much in our favor. It sucks but we all try to mitigate it as best as we can, and we have to mitigate Ebays responses to our problem orders as well.
