The death blow? "Managed Accounts"
Have been on Ebay since 2005 (whew, yes, don't remind me) but not in the past year or so.... have been incredibly busy elsewhere but finally came back to sell items again. So yes, I'm the last to know as usual.
So what was my surprise when I made a $250 sale, packed to ship, printed a label..... then went into Paypal and there was NO MONEY. I checked my bank account, no payment showing anywhere. This was practically a cardiac arrest, since Ebay clearly had said, "Buyer Paid on 12-10-22"
Did their funds vanish? And who would be blamed?
After 3 hours of multiple, super confusing chats with Ebay customer support- most of whom clearly did not speak English well. I slowly came to the understanding that the rules of the game for sellers have changed, apparently. And not in a good way.
"Managed Accounts". What does that mean?
Well basically that means you don't see a dime now until AFTER the item is delivered and the buyer is happy with it. And that's after YOU package, pay for label, ship it off into the sunset, and wait god knows how long for a carrier you have no control over to deliver it to their door.
And then what?
Assuming the package isn't stolen off the porch, or the buyer just claims it never arrived but really got it anyway (went to wrong address, then neighbor dropped it off, but they never bothered to mention that.... and yes, its happened).
The stress level of being an Ebay seller imo has just went up tenfold.
How can I ship a $250 item off and then rely on 30 things to go right, wait a week or more and then assuming any one goes wrong in that time I have to file a dispute, wait for a ruling, and fight not just for my money but to dodge basically theft or loss of stock?
Is this new system working for people?
Honestly I feel at this time it may be the death knell for me. But I wondered if other sellers who have been doing it awhile are doing okay with it. Now that they're carrying so much more, if not ALL of the risk in the online transactions.
And if its not been workable: where elsewhere is everyone going to sell?
I spent about a week listing items and feel like a fool now.
I also thought about starting an online business making specialty items, and selling on Ebay but now I have to reconsider even that. I don't want to spend my days arguing over vanished packages and waiting weeks for delivery and on dispute resolutions to be paid.
Thoughts?????

·2 years agoBe they have been going downhill it seems. Sold something for $600 and have to pay them $100 on top of a $46 dollar tax. So I'm basically being charged twice on my purchases. I hope another company replaces them. Also their customer service blows.

·2 years agoBuyers pay sales tax sellers do not. Listing on eBay is free selling is not.
Read on selling fees and how fees and selling costs are charged in Help & Contact at the top of any page on eBay.
It really isn't necessary to piggyback on an ancient thread from 2022 when you could have easily written your own. Any information in this thread is more than likely outdated.
