The changes in Coin Item Specifics is driving me nuts...
So a couple of weeks ago they announced we will have to describe the condition using words found in grading coins (extra fine, very fine, etc). OK, fine. I have 2000 items to update.
Well they haven't done this yet, but now they've made it a required specific to put UNC/Circulated on each listing. So I'm updating 2000 listings this weekend, only to have to do it again when the new rules take effect next month (and get enforced in July). They didn't warn me that UNC/Circ would be required or I would have started doing this earlier, only my listings since April 24 have this, the rest are missing this specific, and I can't update shipping policies and payment policies because I need to update the specific.
What's the point in changing it now if it's just going to get changed again in another month?
I'm planning time away after tomorrow (and going offline Monday or Tuesday, although I'll still read the forum on my phone sometimes), so I don't want to deal with this right now. I thought I could just leave it and deal with the item specifics when I come back from time away (at the end of May), but they're forcing me to update listings now if I want to do any other revisions, I have to add this item specific.
I use SixBit, so I'm updating it there and syncing it to eBay. I update the shipping and payment policies on eBay itself though (and reassign listings if I upload new stuff, and put it into a category). But I can't reassign any listings that need the item specific updated.

·5 months agoTrying to list in coin category. Circulated/Unc removed from specifics. Cannot list because says I am missing item specifics Circ/Unc.

OP5 months agoWhile updating Country of Origin all day yesterday I had 6 rogue listings I couldn't update... two were the UK Double Florin category, and the other four were US Military Certificates. There was no country of origin box in the listing to update. (Well Country of Origin was there, but not the Country of Region/Manufacture to allow the listing to be visible to international buyers).

·5 months agoThis is a ridiculous policy as anyone with a UNC/PF coin will mention it anyway. If it is not mentioned it would be known to be circulated.

OP5 months agoI mention in the title things like Proof, Impaired Proof, Uncirculated, Almost Uncirculated, Circulated, High Grade or Low Grade, to describe my items. Sometimes the picture makes it look great, but I know it was handled a bit before packed in the flip. I'll mention it as circulated so if there's any imperfections someone who is picky with their UNC coins won't get upset.
I'm OK with stating VF/XF, etc to describe the coin, and not going to complain about it becoming a new item specific if they give me sufficient time to update my listings. But it is always annoying when they change something (like adding country of origin) and I have 9000 listings to update.

·5 months agoWhat a nightmare. Are you the only person associated with your shop who handles ebay sales? Or would there be someone who could do this while you are away? I hope your time away is good for you.

OP5 months agoI'm the only one with SixBit that can sit on my laptop and do it. It's also my organization, so I wouldn't want anyone else to do it.
Plus the people at the shop get paid an hourly wage to do stuff, so they're not supposed to be helping me. I earn money only when I sell things, so there's no hourly wage being paid for me to do this menial work updating item specifics.
The downside is, I have days like this where I'm spending a lot of time on something that won't lead to a sale, but the upside is I get to cherry pick the inventory and take only what I want to try and sell, so unless a collection is off limits, we can have 1000 coins come in and I'm allowed to take the best 25-50 from the collection and list them. If I have stuff in my store that's not that great, that was the best available stuff from whatever I was picking from. Many collections totally suck. We have collections coming in that were entirely picked out of 25 cent junk bins. You can't expect to get anything good for eBay from that.

·5 months agoWouldn't it be nice if EBAY gave you 3 months warning to allow Sellers to update their existing listings? I am sure you will be blind in one eye by the time you finish grading all 2,000 coins.

OP5 months agoThey did kinda give a 3 month warning on the grading part (telling me in April, in May we're supposed to be able to start adding this item specific, in June all new items will require it, in July all existing listings will have to be updated).
HOWEVER, with zero warning that it would be mandatory, they want me to specify circulated or uncirculated for those 2000 coin listings, which is what I'm doing now. I much rather just do the grading thing once (and have until July to complete it). The Circulated/Uncirculated became mandatory around April 24, I'm not recalling any warning that we'd have to do this right away, until the mid-April notification came that condition of the coin would be a new item specific.
I use folders in SixBit, I create a sticky note with the names of the folders and then delete them from the list as I update them (when changing specifics or something, either individual changes or batch changes).
