The buyer returned a different item to me
I sold an item on eBay and when the buyer received the item he claimed that it was damaged and initiated a refund. I paid for the return delivery fees but when I received the return parcel it was a completely different item. I asked the buyer what happened and he showed me few pictures before the delivery and said that the item should be swapped by someone else. Then eBay automatically refunded to the buyer without my consent. I am very frustrating now and don’t know what to do. It looks like that this buyer used a reason to ask a refund and scammed my product in the meantime. The item worth for $450 and I also paid for almost $100 for the delivery charges. As I am an international seller from Hong Kong and not able to file a police report in US, does it mean I have to bear such a loss ?

OP7 months agoWhy e-bay is over protective to the buyers? So they can scam the product by using return function, returning a different item and get the refund so easily? Also e-bay charged me an extra transaction fees of the order even the item was refunded and I lost my product plus delivery expenses. I lost almost 600 dollars and the buyer spent nothing to scam my item. I think this is the last time I sell my product on this platform. what a horrible experience.

·7 months agoYes you will lose on this. This kind of stuff can happen when selling stuff online so there is a risk. You might want to place a value limit on what you sell on Ebay cause scams like this do happen. Majority of the time transactions go smoothly but once in awhile situations like this occur. If you were in the United States the only option is the court route but in your case write it off as a loss.

·7 months agoYes, you have to bear the loss (even if you were in the USA). There are seller protections which allow up to 50% deduction in the refund, if you qualify.
Also, don't post screen shots of a phone showing pictures, nobody can see them.

I am guessing you are an inexperienced seller, selling an expensive item. If true, you are a prime target for thieves and there is nothing you can do other than report the buyer as abusing the Money Back Guarantee. (This does not help you get your money back, but it flags the buyer as a potential thief).
