Yes, they are transparent but doesn't make it right. Sales tax goes directly to the state. It is not a form of income for the seller. So is shipping and especially international. A seller must cover the ebay charge by increasing the fee to the buyer and it really makes the international shipping much higher.
If you cannot afford to pay the fees and make a profit, find another way to make money. Or stop selling the portion of your inventory which is unprofitable on Ebay.
The jewelry category is extremely crowded and it is not as easy to make a profit there as it was for you in the past. If after 22k sales the fees are a problem, that is evidence that things have changed - and it isn't what your pay the FVF on.
You seem to have missed the point. Snarky answer. Sales tax is not a profit but a cost going directly to the state. When ebay takes a % of international shipping the seller must increase the cost of that fee.
No different than when you have nice meal at your favorite local mom and pop restaurant. The owner pays visa, mc, Amex, or Discover 3 to 4 percent of the sales tax and tip you leave the server. The owner doesn't keep any of the sales tax or tip.

·1 year agoIt does make sense when you factor in the work it takes to file sales tax in all 50 states.
I gladly pay ebay that small fee for doing that on my behalf.
And as for the shipping, it's just easier to factor it into your price and offer "free shipping".

If you sign on the dotted line when you join eBay, you are validating eBay's fee structure.
Incidentally, I'd quibble with your characterization of eBay's practice in this regard.
State-sponsored re-education camps are "beyond the pale."
eBay nickle and diming sellers seems to me to be more of a first world inconvenience. 😉

Maybe you should make your own where they don't charge it on that.
