·5 months agoI always get that letter a year after I received the Top Rated Status. I would like to meet the goal always but I can't make people want what I offer. Does not change anything I do with eBay. For myself it is strictly meeting the 100 sales requirements.
Top Rated Status use to make a small difference on shipping but that has long gone away and is irrelevant now.

For me, it would depend on how high/low the hoops are ... I'm not as agile as I used to be and hoop-jumping was not on my list of favourite things to do.
Seriously, being a top seller can earn those people huge money. The really successful ones don't spend any time on these forums as they are too busy servicing their customers. In spite of eBay's secrecy in reasons for suspensions or 'fix it' emails, true top sellers know what they have to do to maintain their status and they do it ... all the time.
I think for these people, the hassle is indeed, 'worth it'. 🤗
btw, if you look in the 5th Edition of 'The Complete Guide to eBay', page 247, the definition of 'hoops' states it's a hominiunmum for 'Policies'

·5 months agoI have lost my TRS from time to time, due to items that were lost/misplaced when we moved and I had to cancel sales. It didn't make a bit of difference in sales. As long as you have good feedback and people know you are a reputable seller, it shouldn't matter. This is a slow period, coincidentally, and your slow-down in sales is nothing unusual overall.

I go in and out of TRS so much these days it never bothers me (not that it really has, I just like the better shipping discounts but that reason has diminished over the years as well).
It's mostly based on lack of sales volume - either transactions count or $ value.
I often lose it because thanks to ebay I end up making what would have been a 20 item sale into a 'special listing' - qty of one. Sighs deeply.

·6 months agoI'm not sure why people think that somehow 'seniority' qualifies them for extra consideration - some of the worst employees I've worked with have been with companies for years. They do the same thing every day, never change processes and refuse to learn anything new because "I've been here for 20 years (or whatever)."

Like many posters here, I use a Posting ID just for these boards, because those who aren’t willing to listen to good advice or take responsibility often lash out at those trying to help, and there have some who tried to damage seller’s accounts. You can look at my history, or just recognize that others actually can be correct instead of you.

·6 months agoI got that same letter for my 25th selling anniversary, lol I know the rules and standards...I didn't give a f---, I try, stuff happens, but I wasn't going to try any harder. Nothing is ever given to you, you earn it every day...and that is the single hardest part about being good

oh, it is entirely different. You got a store because of the listing price of 4c ( I think it started at 2c), price of store was $20 a month, for lowest level . I remember one jewelry seller who paid $4.80 per auction (because her start price was so high)....... That 4c was awfully good in comparison. If the item didn't sell at auction, you got another auction free of the listing fee, but those fees could add up very quickly.
You ran auctions (many of which sold) because there was a link to the store in them.........I think I remember when total listings per YEAR topped a million...... It was new an exciting and buyers well outnumbered sellers and BOUGHT.
The hardest thing for some sellers to realize was WHY they weren't making $$...... "I sold 4 auctions and got $70......but not much in my paypal." Yes, but they ran 20 auctions. and simply forgot the would have to pay the listing fees for the unsolds. Ebay had locked in profits with those listing fees......since we had to pay them whether or not the item sold.

lol.......my memory....... We would sign up to participate on the Stores board and then put some thing like "Round Robbin... See more great stuff" in listings.....as a link (I think it was) to the next person who had signed up........so people could follow the links and see other sellers.... This was when Store listings weren't in search....they were BIN and only auctions were in search so people were looking for any way to get the Store listings seen. No objection from Ebay...... Of course, when Store listings went into search, it became moot.
Store listings could be seen in search under certain circumstances........less than (30?) auctions returned for search, I think it was. But they appeared at the bottom of the auction list. Store listings only cost 4c for 30 days, where as auctions were 35c + 35c for a picture for 7 days with a start price of $9.99 or under, can't remember the fvf fees. (of course those prices differed depending on the price of the item and changed at times).....

·6 months agoChat boards are a form of social media......and some sellers have used them for advertising for years....... Most are smart enough not to admit it. Have often wondered why they don't use the buyer board instead of seller board........
Years ago, there was actually a way for board sellers to join a "round robbin" for selling......use a certain term in listings and then announce it on the board, others would join and do likewise. From the first one......you could go to the next.....etc.

·6 months agoMy opinion is spamming the boards with similar posts is a turnoff to buyers, at least to me and evidently, I'm not alone.
Sellers with good listings and desirable items don't need to solicit business by drawing attention to their listings by pretending to need help.
But I do like when they post because it gives me sellers to add to my "don't buy from" list! So thank you OP.

That's because I use a posting ID. A posting ID is one that members use to protect their selling account from vengeful members who may want to retaliate after not agreeing with or liking the advice they receive.

·6 months agoGeez, if that’s going to be your reaction to give you a grace period, they should just remove your status next time you don’t reach the targets.
As to why fewer sales towards the end of the month, I’ve seen this both in brick & mortar and online retail; people got rent to pay so they don’t spend on non-essentials.

·6 months agoYeah, it seems that when eBay sees you aren't selling often enough to meet the required metrics for being a TRS, you might get demoted. Funny how that works. I have gone through this myself at least once. Might be again, unless I get busy and start listing more items. Though I sold like 10 hard drives this week. Not sure what's driving that at the moment. lol

·6 months agoWhen you say "Thanks Ebay" just so you know you are not speaking to Ebay. We are buyers and sellers who answer questions and give advice. To answer your question Ebay is run through a system. The system states you are in the red on a Seller level. Your experience on Ebay is no different than anyone else when it comes to following and monitoring your Seller Level. Seller Level must be maintained just like everyone else. You need to make sure you track your packages using a level provided by Ebay.

What's astounding is how many of those posts are nearly identical, titled 'Sales' (or 'Slow Sales'), then stating how many days they observed few or no sales, and asking if everybody else is having the same.
Over, and over, and over, and over ... sometimes on subsequent days or just a few days apart. For over a decade.

for me, it's such a turn off, like you pointed out, wasting our time, taking away from those who really need our advice, that i would never buy from such sellers.

This^ makes it very unclear what you're unclear about, could be interpreted multiple ways. Did you think Top Rated status had something to do with time on eBay? Did you think once you get the status you have it forever after, no standards to uphold from then on? Did you even know you had it before they offered the grace period (to keep it)?
