terrible expertience selling here
i would like to say my experience with selling on ebay has been more than horrible!! i started with a few items one was a cupcake mixer and it sold but to cheap because i DIDN'T understand the listing process and i auctioned it instead of selling it. it sold and i tried to ship after the buyer paid and i couldn't print a label because i had directions on the address line for my office to put it over the fence so after struggling we ended up doing it over zelle and skipped ebay. the second item was a antique silverware set i sold for 850$ i still couldn't print the label so i paid 52$ outta pocket and shipped it. the buyer received it and didnt look in the drawer and filed a refund request and immediately realized her mistake and tried to cancel i answered her request but it wouldnt change so i called on recorded line they informed me that if i could get the buyer to cancel the ticket i could receive my money for my silverware. the buyer was on a train and said they could do it the following day. the following day they succeeded in cancelling the ticket so i called back and was told after explalining everything again that i couldnt receive payment until tuesday because i changed my debit card recently over fraud.. i explained that the other guy told me i wouldnt have any problems after they cancelled... didnt help she said it was on hold till the 25th. i sold a coffee maker and 3 coins(which shipped) in the meantime but was actually broke hence the reason i decided to sell some items... but still couldn't print labels and didnt have gas or money to send the coffee maker so i called and explained on the day i was supposed to ship which even though they took 3 days to pay my shipping deadline didnt change. so i went to ship it at the post office which is about 40 miles from muy home and they dont have boxes big enough. i went everywhere looking for one and noone had one ups home depot fed ex in walgreens uhaul rental places and my girlfriends work and during the running i didnt see the messages or didnt get notified. i let them know after purchasing a 72$ shipping label that i was having difficulty with it. so on the night im supposed to git paid on my silverware they send me a message saying they think im a fraudulent seller and i explained it to them amd gave them a refund i call to find out what happened and after i explained everything she sent me a email saying that i can no longer sell and they are holding my money even longer and sent me a link wanting my ID and mail and receipts for the 100year old silverware i sold. i sent my id and a piece of mail in but theyres noway to get receipts of a family heirloom. THE BUYER RECEIVED THE SILVERWARE ABOUT TEN DAYS AGO!!!!
**IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME OUT OR GIVE ME SOME ADVICE I REALLY NEED MY MONEY I HAVE KIDS AND TEEBALL JUST STARTED AND I CANT EVEN AFFORD TO DRIVE TO TOWN IN A EMERGENCY **

OP2 years agoYeh thanks for all the advice and support. I finally talked to an American and she promised me to get it by Tues and she kept her Word, but then somehow some other department reboot on immediately after they released my account..
I'm just saying it's a pretty f*** up way to run a business. You would think that people would have to do all this before selling anything. It really looks like eBay uses a bunch of tricks to keep as much money in their account as possible, so they can make money off of it. 5 different departments supposedly put ahold Omar account, or my money? LOL and it says it's depositing in my bank now, but I haven't seen it.

Selling on eBay is a real job-- although for many of us it is also an enjoyable hobby.
But just as it's hard to collect stamps without a catalogue, or play golf with only one club, some preparation is needed.
A method of taking pictures and a good idea of what should and should not be in a picture.
A digital scale.
A Managed Payments account.
A tape measure.
Some knowledge of what the thing is that is being listed, and more importantly, what it is not. Tibetan silver is not silver. Satin is a weave not a fabric. Apple is a brand name not a generic one.
A postal service account for PO discounts. (We Canadians should have a Solutions for Small Business account. I don't know what USPS calls their equivalent.)
A bookmark for the website of your postal system
I agree that eBay should not allow members to list anything until they at least have a Managed Payments account set up so that eBay can pay them.
The rest is a matter of personal responsibility.

😂
slati_2013
·2 years agoYou are simply not ready to sell. You need a printer. You need to set up a USPS account to order shipping supplies. The are free. And you can either buy and print shipping labels from eBay or your USPS account. You can also ask your Post Office or UPS to pick up the package for you if that service is available in your area.
Before you ship anything you need to know how you are going to ship it. The box and delivery service. Right now it seems to me you are leaving lots of money on the table that you could use. I would not ship anything again if I were you and wait until you are set before shipping again.

Maybe he will take the advice given here to heart, maybe not.

Like a lot of posters OP has, to the best of our knowledge, not returned or read any of the responses. It could be that is part of their learning curve as well.

·2 years agoThere are 100% self inflicted wounds. Nothing to do with eBay. You not having the proper shipping material, or not having access to a functioning printer, or not having enough gas to get to a post office, would cause the same problems on any platform. Stop selling on the internet and try local venues.

·2 years agoIt sounds to me like a transaction taken off eBay and so there's no reason to give OP any eBay-related advice because eBay was not involved in the deal.

·2 years agoI'm wondering if OP meant that they purchased the label with Zelle and not eBay - perfectly legit - rather than having payment for the item through Zelle (i.e., off eBay). ? ?
The transaction sequence sounds as freaked out and stressed as the post - too much happening without understanding what exactly is going on, and a core issue seems to be difficulty in printing labels.

I took it that the buyer had instructions for the carrier mixed in with the address as in:
Fred J Dobbs.
123 Any Street
( just yeet the parcel over the fence, the dog bites)

·2 years agoThe word "yeet" has some overtones of panic. Thus we would toss a club to our juggling partner, chuck a snowball at that annoying kid, and yeet a snake picked up thinking it was a piece of rope.

It's current slang-- and a word I actually like.
It means to throw or toss, hard , but not much interest in where the yeeted item will land.
"I yeeted the maggoty cupcake across the room."

·2 years agoLot of issues in one post. As others have already advised you should not list until you have a grasp of how eBay works. Make sure you read and understand the fee schedule and the money back guarantee. I am not sure why you cannot purchase you labels off eBay but it is something you need to correct paying full retail postage cost is a killer. As @kenneth686321 explained you can use your pending funds to pay for the shipping.
Personally I don't purchase my labels through eBay but utilize Pirate Ship which has about the same discounted rates as eBay but also has a couple of shipping classes eBay does not offer most notably ground advantage cubic and priority mail cubic. I also purchase those labels using a cash back credit card so my shipping cost is decreased a bit further.
As for the box either the coffee pot is the size of a small car or your Home Depot is poorly stocked. I once shipped a beer keg in a HD moving box with room to spare.
You may also have not entered the weight and dim's on the silverware set correctly. The ground advantage shipping cost from your location in FL to VA where I am located is showing as $5.65. Using Pirate ship discounted rates to ship a 12" x 12" x 6# package weighing 3 pounds shows a USPS ground advantage cost of $8.75. You are loosing money on shipping.
With regards to the held funds it is a poor policy eBay put in place to cover their own tails and reduce their risk. They are the only ecommerce site that I am aware of that does this.

·2 years ago@jegi7134
If you don't understand something, you should never list it. Ebay doesn't care if you didn't understand. Their empathy for your situation is zero. They expect you to know your product...every aspect of it. Always a good idea to do research for anything before you sell. Sorry for your situation.

·2 years agoSorry this happened to you.
I have three pieces of advice.
"because i DIDN'T understand the listing process"
#1) You shouldn't sell on ebay unless you DO understand what you're doing.
#2) Paragraphs are your friend.
#3) In the US we put the $ before the number.
I hope your future ebay experiences are better.
buyselljack2016
·2 years ago#3)
Let me (jack) be the jerk of the day.
I don't sell anything for dollars 10 ($10) I doubt if you do either.
It is written as it is spoken. If I were to say I sold that item for ten dollars it would be perfectly fine. There is nothing wrong with writing it the same way .......................... other than our minds here in the U.S. have been conditioned mentally to only seeing it that way 🙂
Respectfully, .................... you could stop posting about $XX vs XX$. It really isn't helping posters that are already distressed 🤔
maxine*j
·2 years agoI agree that it makes more sense to write it as it is spoken, and I agree that pointing out usage, one way or the other, may not be helpful to someone who has much bigger problems -- but I will remind you that it's not only "U.S. mentality" that puts the currency symbol before the figure.
In Europe, the price would be written as €10; in the UK, £10; in Japan, ¥10; in China, ¥10 (the yen and the yuan symbol is the same); in South Africa, R10; in Peru, S/10; in Canada, $10; and on and so on.
So, not just Americans.

·2 years agoThanks, that only reinforces my point that it makes no never mind, and reinforces that I, as someone in the U.S. was closeminded even in my point of view 🤣 (I contend innocence as the post I was responded to made my mind go in that direction) (US)🤣🤣

·2 years agoSorry @buyselljack2016 just a pet peeve of mine.
I didn't learn it that way, did you?
I'm curious as to why I see it so much lately on the boards from users registered in the US.
If I were writing/typing it that way I would want someone to bring it to my attention.

But like you, I 'm just genuinely curious.
Going back to the post.
There is so much going on.
I don't think any one of us can solve all of these problems for the op.
I think it's a matter of better learning how things work/how things are done.

They can be useful, but only if you add punctuation and paragraph breaks once you’re done dictating…
maxine*j
·2 years agoQuite possible. Between my failing eyesight and my failing patience, I can no longer deal with such, in any event. Whatever OP's problems are, I must leave it to others to help and also to ask to be forgiven for going "off topic" with posts about 10$ vs $10.
-
buyselljack2016
·2 years agoNope, I did not learn it that way either 🤣
Perhaps it is a bit of the "texting" style of messaging 🤔 where rather than typing out about a ten dollar item someone subs a $ sign for the word dollar 🤔
Not meant as a "callout" to your pet peeve, and I probably should have passed on my "pet peeve" where there is a pointing out of the difference in something that actually conveys the exact same meaningðŸ˜
Not sure why you would want it brought to your attention. It's like when a word is misspelled, or someone uses there instead of their................. We know what they mean 😊 but then me questioning why you would want it brought to your attention is just me again vying for "annoyance of the day"😂

·2 years agoI deeply sympathize with your unfortunate predicament but you made a series of unfortunate errors most of which are too late to fix.
NEVER EVER EVER sell on any platform if you need cash immediately to pay for urgent expenses. Always sell locally for cash or at a pawnshop. You are a new/infrequent seller and are thus subject to Payment holds up to 30 days. This was in the terms and conditions that all sellers agree to. There is nothing you can do but wait For further information read this.

The social media Chat accounts are covered by trained eBay employees with some authority.
You can use your pending funds for your sales to purchase discounted shipping labels from Ebay. There is no need to purchase shipping labels out of pocket through the local post office at expensive retail rates. All is need is a printer. Why coun't you print your shipping labels? Do you have access to a printer? Read this:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/posting-items/labels-packaging-tips/buying-printing-postage-labels?id=4157#:~:text=Go%20to%20My%20eBay%20and,to%20the%20nearest%20whole%20number
It is your responsibility to know what size box is necessary to ship the item, whether not not your local shipping supply store even sells these sizes BEFORE you list.
