Suspicious Buyer — Should I Proceed with Order
Hi everyone,
So I just had someone buy one of my listings, however, the buyer has only one feedback, although this is not the biggest concern. Their name (shipping name, not user name) is also just a mishmash of letters. Ex: EGFSDS and I looked up the address they put for shipping and it took me to a hardware store (I do not sell any hardware supplies btw) with no homes in the area. Therefore, I am considering canceling the order but would like and appreciate any advice beforehand.

·3 years agoIn the past week I have sold to a buyer using the name Bugs Bunny, another order to a buyer using the jumbled letters name.
Bugs used that for both their shipping name/address and eBay registered info, the jumbled letters were going to a forwarder in Oregon but their eBay registration address had their Actual Name.
I shipped both without a moment of concern because I've seen this type of thing many times over the past 24 years on eBay.

·3 years agoDid eBay transaction instruct you to ship to that address? then ship, no need to go around the globe searching for locations.

·3 years agoYou can always contact ebay fraud and safety with your concerns about the order. You're trying to avoid a situation for yourself and ebay here, after all.

OP3 years agoEnded up doing this. Was told by an eBay representative that since they can confirm on their side that there is an issue with the buyers address, I would be able to cancel the order due to said reason and receive no defect if I were to opt for that.

The buyer might work there and have their packages sent there.

OP3 years agoI was not given any specific info on why it was considered an issue, but I did just get an email today from eBay telling me that the buyers account is no longer registered and that eBay to cancel all the accounts transactions, so fortunately I did not end up going through with the transaction after all.

·3 years agoWhat exactly did they confirm was an issue with the address? A weird recipient name means nothing - some places use it as an ID for sorting recipient packages. As long as eBay tells you that the buyer's payment has been received, you simply ship to the address received with the payment.
In particular, if you're purchasing the Shipping label through eBay (or most any other on-line postage service), the address is validated against the USPS database at that time. Generally you will see the ZIP Code expanded from 5 digits to 9 digits when the label comes up for printing, indicating that it was validated.

·3 years agoExcellent. Listen to your gut when things seem odd. Ebay is happy to help with a sales concern. Just by your actions early like this, you saved yourself and Ebay from a bigger headache for both of you. Thats a win for you and a win for them, so this is why they at least care about this kind of thing when a seller brings up things that seem weird about an order. They of course can see a lot more about the buyer than we can, and it paid off bringing your concerns to their attention.
