Sure you've heard people venting before. But If I dont speak up and say something, I am nothing.
Ok so before you read this, know that this is me venting about things you've probably heard before, but its new to me. So if you dont want to read someone ranting, you can skip it. ----So here goes. There are a couple of issues here that I think need to be addressed. First off, Ebay needs to stop candy coating stuff and tell it like it is. I have yet to see one truthful statement when it comes to getting paid here. Like the whole "You have been paid for this item" Actually no, I haven't. Ebay has been paid for this item, I haven't received anything. Or the "Your funds are now available." No, actually they are not. I don't see them in my account at my disposal. Or the "Seller does not accept returns." Which actually means, "Yes you do, if we say so. Then we'll force you to. And youll be lucky if we choose to give you your item back." Is there any statement that is not a half truth? I Had a buyer purchase a coat. I clearly stated in the description, the EXACT size of the coat. I took photos which also showed the manufacturers tag with the EXACT same size as I had stated. They purchased the coat and then say that it doesn't fit and they cant even button it up. Here's the thing. It belonged to my sister. She had been that EXACT size for years. It was the exact size as I stated. So it didn't just magically shrink during shipping. There's no scooby doo mystery to be solved here. Then the buyer admits they thought it was bigger than what both I and the tag said it was. But they chose to disregard all that and buy it anyway. Thinking she knew better than what I, the tag, or my sister said. So basically using my merch as their personal closet, wasting my time and money, trying to convince themselves that they are smaller than they actually are. And then, when the obvious happens, they demand a refund. So wait a minute. ...What about the "Seller does not accept returns." line? They hold up my funds because the buyer started a R-E-T-U-R-N. Have you ever bought something at a place that said " All sales are final." and returned it for a refund? No? Me neither. Now I could see if I had said something misleading, or claimed the coat was something more or less than it actually was. But I didnt do that. I mean its like EVERYONE gets to lie accept the seller? So the only way to resolve it was give a partial refund. They keep the coat and half the money. But WAIT!!...Theres more. To add insult to injury, the 'start a return' tab wont let me start the return. I keep getting this error message over and over, that also says to maybe "Try adding another payment account " to make it work. Had to call customer service to get it to work, but guess what? I changed payment accounts, as directed, which instantly puts your money on hold ....yet again. I understand the need for buyer protection but this is ridiculous. This is ebay holding onto your money for as long as possible to squeeze every **bleep** penny they can out of people and rewrite policy to justify how they do it. They get the fee, The promotion fee, and now this. Its like lawmakers on capitol hill slipping in a 25% military debt ceiling in the fine print of a national park funding bill, over the christmas holidays so know one knows until after the fact. And it's just wrong. But WAIT...it doesnt stop there.....oh noooo. Then i find this little box in which I can type in my issue to resolve the dispute. I type it all in and guess what? It the gives me an error message when i hit send, thus deleting everything i just spent 45 minutes typing when i hit the back button to try again. An endless error loop that actually goes to nowhere. INTENTIONALLY. Or the endless useless assistant loop. You cant call them but, they can call you. Because they want to dodge the issue. Why? To hold onto your money even longer. How convenient. SO here I am, ten days later. With no money, not even the half owed to me, and no coat, with the insulting little 'Your funds are now available." still plastered there for just that extra little jab that lets you know that there's nothing you can do about it ,no matter what your situation may be. Its screw you, you get your money when we say you do. So now im going to post this, so i can sit back and listen to all you pro ebay people huddle up and co-sign everything that just happened. Youll quote regulation this, and read the fine print that, and blah, blah, blah. ITS WRONG!! I DONT CARE HOW YOU COLOR IT UP. I DONT CARE WHAT 'POLICY' YOU HIDE BEHIND TO JUSTIFY IT>Theres right and theres wrong. Any dictionary you read will clearly say, when you state something that is not true or factual, it called LYING!! An apple is NOT a turnup truck. You make it very discouraging as a new seller to want to do business here. There are so many 'read the fine print hidden between the lines.' rules that if you read them in their entirety, you'd almost be afraid to sell anything. They have the right to hold your money, FOR A MONTH? Really? aside from ebay, WHO DOES THAT?! Just like banks, they hold x amount of dollars in a high interest return account and as new money comes in, other people finally get their money. If you or I did the same thing, we'd go to prison. ITS CALLED A PONZI SCHEME. You cant tell me their not doing that. Anything over a thousand and it's held for a month?!! C'mon now. Theres such a thing as buyer protection, but a month?! Really....REALLY?!! I wasnt born yesterday. Gee, are you guys federally insured? Was that a no? or a yes? Cause if your not, why arent people going to prison. Anyone else would. Yes, Im venting. No, it wasnt very much money, but when your a single father of five, disabled and trying to suppliment your fixed income, to put food on the table It matters. It matters. A LOT! But you go ahead and co sign the **bleep**. Because maybe if someone from corporate reads what you say, you'll get a brownie point. (like the higher ups in corporate actually give a crap about what you or I have to say. Their annual bonus wasnt big enough last year. were just dollar signs to them. Your naive if you believe otherwise. ) Im just another face in a sea of faces. And so are you. Squandering over table scraps to try to feed our families.) So much for supplementing my income here. And they wonder why people honest people sometimes turn to crime. Go figure. The system is rigged. And ebay's apart of it. Should have known better. So go ahead, lets hear you co sign it. Im all ears.

·1 year ago@wcaw1786 You need to know your product better - the AI fluff 'summary' of your post above ignores a crucial fact - you need to provide relevant detail of what you're selling. That means measuring clothing if you're selling clothing, particularly vintage clothing, and checking a size chart (Macy's is pretty standard) if there is any question.
All this is, is a learning experience and it's better to take it so and not take it so personally. It was a mistake - everybody makes 'em - so you can take the knowledge here and use it to keep improving your sales and approach. That's all - I've been selling clothing for years and still make mistakes that make me bang my head on my desk.

·1 year ago“…To add insult to injury, the 'start a return' tab wont let me start the return.â€
Sellers cannot start a return on one of their own sales—the buyer must do that.
“They have the right to hold your money, FOR A MONTH?â€
Yes, by listing an item, you are giving your tacit acceptance of all policies governing the platform. That includes your funds being held.
â€Just like banks, they hold x amount of dollars in a high interest return account and as new money comes in, other people finally get their money. If you or I did the same thing, we'd go to prison. ITS CALLED A PONZI SCHEME. You cant tell me their not doing thatâ€
You have completely mischaracterized the Managed Payment processing system here. It is nothing like the Ponzi investment fraud. Seller funds do not require “new†money coming in before a payment for a sold item is received. In 15 years of selling here, i have never had an issue with eBay failing to render my funds.
“. And they wonder why people honest people sometimes turn to crime.â€
Honest people do not turn to or commit crimes. They cease to be considered honest if they do.
@wcaw1786 The main issue causing your troubles seems to be as a result of unfamiliarity with the rules. Without knowing what to expect, and what is expected of an eBay member, one cannot hope to prosper here.

·1 year agoA Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that pays existing investors with funds collected from new investors. Ponzi scheme organizers often promise to invest your money and generate high returns with little or no risk.
You are aware that Ebay has a thirty day MBG for buyers, right? So if you are a new seller, with no recent selling history, Ebay prefers that any refunds come out of your pocket, not theirs. Doesnt matter if you are a father of five trying to pay the bills, the rules are the same for everybody.

Most sellers here know that "no returns" does not prevent "not as described" disputes.
If you or I did the same thing, we'd go to prison. ITS CALLED A PONZI SCHEME
Most sellers here recognize that payment holds are not illegal and are not a Ponzi Scheme.
So much for supplementing my income here.

You seem to be an infrequent seller with only 3 items sold in the last 90 days and not so many since you became a member since 2013. If you read the attached eBay link you might have better understood your issue on releasing funds. i.e. I highly suspect they are viewing you as a new seller as of recent transactions are few even with 3 digit+ $ each in item prices
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-hold?id=4816&st=3&pos=5&query=Payments%2520on%2520hold&intent=Managed%2520Payments%2520for%2520new%2520sellers&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP145
Also best to know the rules of the game before you sell - the eBay User Agreement is a great place to start and the ANNOUCEMENT Borad on your OVERVIEW Boards help keep you up to date.
Personal I became an eBay member iin Nov. 2008 but didn't sell one thing until Jan 2010. Wanted first to see what selling on eBay was all about - ya' got know how deep the water is before you dive in head first. and know the key ins and outs of anything you sign up for. = s fewer surprises.

·1 year agoIs there any statement that is not a half truth?
@wcaw1786
I am sure there are some, but can't provide any right now off hand. Over the years I have mostly learned about how the policies are applied by reading here. You can read each page of the User Agreement, and all the links to the eBay policy pages, and still not "get it" until it happens to you.
There are many procedures that are not mentioned in those pages at all, and they are changing all the time. Historically speaking, most sellers just learn to "take it" when new unsavory procedures are enacted and keep on selling. eBay knows this, and acts accordingly.
The problem with "payment holds" is that eBay will not allow a seller to use the "held funds" for a refund should the need arise, even if it is for the same transaction. They often suggest this is for "buyer safety" when in fact it matters not to a buyer if your funds are held or not. Buyers have the Money Back Guarantee anyway. So you can sell a $1000 item (funds on hold for 30 days) and if the buyer wants to "cancel" you can't use that $1000. You have to fund it yourself, and you get paid when the 30 days is up.
To me, that is even worse than the hold in the first place. However, I am not in charge. But I am in charge of where I choose to do business.

·1 year agoIt definitely sounds like you still haven't accepted the return so it was truthful.
Here's my guide for selling on ebay because I have never read all the rules because that's a waste of my time:
1 take picture
2 steal a previously sold title and maybe just cut and paste their description or use the a.i just for lulz
3 put item in box and weigh it
4 submit listing
5 put item in a box on a shelf
6 get sale
7 take item and pack safely recheck weight
8 buy shipping label
9 take to post office
10 roll around in my vast fortunes
yes people may return your item. it seems the merchandise with the most returns is going to be auto parts, clothing, and or collectible cards from what I read here. The issue as a smaller new seller you are going to run into is that you are way more reliant on the money from your small amount of listings compared to people who have been doing it longer and have a more consistent sales level. yes returns or refunds suck but it's all a part of doing business. If you keep at it you will make some extra money if you really buckle down and take it seriously you can make decent money here. If you really play your cards right you can make a really good amount of money here. Don't get upset about a silly return it's all a learning experience and now you are more aware of how things can go on any sale.

·1 year agoIf they selected Doesn't Fit as the reason for the return, all you had to do was decline the return.
If they say it wasn't as described, then the MBG overrides your no returns.
On Ebay, no returns doesn't mean no refunds.

·1 year agoIf you are going to sell clothing, it is imperative that you include inch measurements in your description. Even more important when it is vintage clothing. Sizes in the 70s are nowhere near what the modern sizes are.
I still have some 1980s jackets that have a tag size that is larger than what I wear now but they are too small for me.
Over the years, manufacturers have adjusted sizes to make women think they are smaller than they are.

·1 year agoSummary:
The author of the rant expresses their frustration with eBay's policies and practices, which they believe are misleading, unfair, and overly bureaucratic. Key complaints include:
Misleading Statements: The platform's messages about payments and returns are perceived as inaccurate or deceptive, such as claims of being paid when funds are not actually accessible.
Unfair Returns Process: Despite clearly describing and photographing an item accurately, the seller was forced to accept a return due to a buyer’s mistake, undermining the “no returns†policy.
Delayed Payments: eBay holds funds unnecessarily long, which the author argues is a tactic to maximize their own financial gain at the expense of sellers.
Inefficient Customer Service: The author describes endless error loops, unhelpful automated assistants, and difficulty resolving disputes, which add to their frustration.
Exploitation of Sellers: The author likens eBay’s policies to a Ponzi scheme, accusing the platform of holding sellers’ money to generate additional profits.
Impact on Personal Life: As a disabled single parent of five trying to supplement their income, the author feels discouraged and unsupported, suggesting the system is rigged against small, honest sellers.
The post concludes with a sense of helplessness and distrust, accusing eBay of prioritizing corporate profit over fairness and transparency.

You are correct....there is no such thing as "no returns" because EBAY 30-Day Money Back Guarantee (supersedes "no returns") and allows customer to lie and claim "not as described, defective, counterfeit". EBAY does NOT require customer to "prove" their claim.
Just wanted to let you know...when selling clothing it is always best to "allow returns". If customer opens a "does not fit" case (CUSTOMER pays all shipping costs). You only refund the "purchase price".
I agree EBAY was better when years ago when money was instantly deposited into the Seller's PayPal account. Also, if customer was trying to "reverse payment" PayPal was always willing to listen to the Seller side of the story (before making any determination).
Unfortunately, we are stuck with crappy "not existent" customer service and delays in getting paid. As long as EBAY is making money they will not change anything.

·1 year agoIf it was that Sherling Coat.......just a comment on sizing
Tag says 16 L, you say in item specific 16.... L, XL, from 1970's
All size 16's are not equal.....the sizes can fit differently......depending on style/designer/manufacturer. The age of the item also comes into play.......what was a size 16 in the 1970's, is probably different from the measurements of the same item today......
While 16 L is adequate to sell in a store because the item can be tried on, it's not adequate for on line selling... You need inch measurements of bust/waist (if there is one) and hips......length is also desirable because of the possible differences in heights......
johnrj1226
·1 year agoAdd one more thing - not all size 16L and any other sizes for kids, juniors, men's, women's fit the same. Certain brands have their own size charts. Plus people don't have the same body shape plus there no international size standards for clothing and footwear. e.g. when it come to denims I much prefer Wrangles (with 7 belt loops vs 5 on Levis )over Levi's of the same W & L cut and denim comfort.
Recall the days that tailors were common place at many stores - but not so much any more. Majority of people don't try stuff on - we are in a blow and go society.
Reasons why providing clothing measurements are key factors in selling wearable items. Sold lots of wearable and footwear - seldom had a size issue. and when I did it was "wrong size - doesn't fit" issue- accepted the return = buy paaid the ship return. I refunded - resold the item at a higher price.
