Sterling Silver vintage pair Mexican signed hallmarked pins WHY need Authenticity Guarantee?
There are no grey areas like how much are the diamonds worth, how big are the diamonds or what karat is the gold? Here with my pair of sterling silver pins it’s straight out factual that I am offering these 2 pins, no doubt about it.
Ok I’m asking $750. Over money threshold plus there are at least 3 other identical pairs of these same exact pins up for sale now.
Guess I’ll delete my listing as why would anyone buy mine as most expensive of those now listed on eBay. I didn’t know this until I checked out mine today…
But just because of high prices mine + others listed all require authentic guarantees with no opinion about this. My pins are what they are. An uninformed buyer can 100% see for herself that I am selling exactly what is listed.

Something like: Collectibles> Cultures & Ethnicities>Latin American>Mexico>Other Mexican Collectibles

·1 year agoThe powers that be at Ebay have determined that the trust in Ebay sellers is not high enough for unrestricted sale of unauthenticated items. They have required authentication for items where there is a past history of buyer disappointment.
As a seller, and an expert in many of the items I sell, I have little confidence in third party graders/authenticators for the rare and uncommon things I sell. I would welcome Ebay authentication for items where independent graders and buyers are not knowledgeable if the Ebay authenticators were knowledgeable.
In the meantime, we sellers have little in the way of weaponry to hold off buyers who are totally ignorant of what they buy.

·1 year agoCause eBay says you do. There is so much fake home shopping channel junk out there they just want buyers to feel safe when purchasing. Has nothing to do with your selling account, just want to keep everyone safe.

Hey, my friend @luckythewinner ,
This may come as a shock to you, but I don't trust the non-expert "authenticators" to appraise anything & that added layer of the process does absolutely nothing to instill any confidence.
They don't know what they are doing. Furthermore, it adds no further protections for the seller. Returns for INAD can still take place. Empty box returns can still take place.
All that has been added here is that instead of just being against the Scylla of shipping/theft/return-non return concerns, the seller is also now against the Charybdis of the "elite" authentication team that can:
1. mishandle/damage the item or cause the same via poor handling or poor re-packaging
2. assuming a purchase of more than one piece, pieces can be lost, misplaced or left out
3. they can just flat-out mis-appraise the item
...............and much much more.

It takes a serious & engaged individual many years to acquire a working knowledge & mastery of a particular category.
Sorry, a magic wand, some training modules and a series of scripted checklists does not feed the bulldog.

·1 year agoYou stated that the buyer could see "that I am selling exactly what is listed", and I simply pointed out that is not really the case and a buyer must take it on faith that you will ship what you are showing.
IMHO your response does nothing to change my point.
Your post did not really address what I wrote, you just quoted what I said and turned your response into a rant against the authentication system which I did not even really mention. If you have an issue with the authentication, then IMHO your only real option is to vote with your feet and avoid it.

A buyer cannot see what you are selling or what you will be shipping. All that buyer can see is pictures of something you claim you are selling.
This may come as a shock to you, but there have been sellers on eBay who were not honest about what they were selling. They would put up pictures of authentic items, but ship counterfeit ones.

If you were selling your prized Gull-Wing Mercedes on this platform & the only thing standing between you & a satisfied collector was a room full of non-expert non-appraiser bobble heads who have as their sole claim to expertise some training videos, a script & a summer camp stay when they had cause to play with an Erector Set (that's engineering experience & makes that employee a Team Lead) you might feel differently about the hot mess.

What is the problem you have selling something under the Authentication program?
I don't have anything that would qualify for Authentication but if I did I would not be bothered at all, in fact I'd be happy given the potential for problems with the buyer is way less than when shipping directly to the buyer.

I have been here an awfully long time and didn’t have problems shipping items to buyers or dealing with buyers either.
Some of my sales over decades have also been for a lot of money 💵 too, more than a thousand.
Things worked fine with me for a long time.
(Hope I didn’t just jinx myself!)

How am I supposed to send a 3' strand of Imperial Jade to these grand prize winners for them to authenticate it?
Did any of the children there get the 30-minute training module on distinguishing types of Jade while they are nursing their juice boxes? Or distinguishing Jade from non-Jade?
I have oodles that I would love to sell to high-end crafters who want to make lovelies but really?
They are shooting themselves in the foot here.
