Similar items in front of my auction
Love how the idiots here at ebay put similar items in front of my description and not at the end of my auctions. What are they trying to do not let me sell? Don't these dingbats know SELLERS ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE EBAY MONEY, NOT THE BUYER. WHAT FEES DOES a BUYER PAY? NOTHING.

As a buyer, I find these sponsored items uber annoying as I'm trying to find the Item Description to get measurements or whatever, and I have to keep scrolling down, down, down past these other listings.
Why, when someone is interested in product, would eBay place stumbling blocks in their way?
Imagine going to buy a new car, you tell the salesman what you want and start asking questions about it, but all he does is promote some other car. You would probably get frustrated and walk out.
I wonder -- Does eBay conduct focus groups before making these decisions?

·9 months agoNot sure "idiots" is the best description. It is actually a smart move on eBay's part.
By putting similar like items that someone will see after they have found your item may lead to a sale. It matters not to eBay if a purchase is for the one you advertised or one they presented to the potential buyer. eBay just wants the shopper to buy something and it does not matter if it is from you or someone else.

·9 months agoFirst off, I agree with you. I don't think that ads should appear in the middle of listings.
However, this swings both ways. Your items can appear inside other peoples' listings. (If you pay)
Either way, shouting in caps and name calling won't do anything to increase your sales. Might want to focus that energy on something more positive, but that's just my 5 cents.

·9 months agoBut what if ebay puts a Sellers Promoted/Sponsored Listing smack dab in the middle of another Sellers Listing that that Seller is also paying to have Promoted/Sponsored.
Think about that one. 😄

·8 months ago'promoted/sponsored listings make eBay MORE money'...sometimes.
I notice these promoted/sponsored items are more expensive than other same identical items...and / or are items not worth a dime where anyone would actually buy the item...especially in the category I sell in.

·9 months ago@sdstoragefinds ,
You can fight fire with fire by promoting your items and get in front of your competitors. Also, if you really want to have the buyer buy your item instead of your competitors make sure your price is much lower.
I guarantee if you promote your items and have the absolute lowest prices for those items you will have more sales. Isn’t more sales what you want?

·9 months agoI'm a little surprised you can say "dingbats" on here without it being changed to a *bleep*
theteamsetguy
·9 months ago@hartungcards ,
What’s a dingbat? I’ve heard of baseball bats and I’ve not seen those changed to a “bleep†on here, so I don’t see why that would be any different for dingbats.

·9 months agoIn typography, a dingbat is an ornament, specifically, a grapheme used in typesetting, often employed to create box frames, or as a dinkus.

·9 months agoIn the dictionary of my life, a dingbat is a person who is screwy, and a baseball bat is the tool used for an unconventional adjustment. lol.

·8 months ago'changed to a "bleep"'...funny😆
It's a word used mostly in the USA...and those who do the 'bleep's are from other countries and might think it a physical thing or not understand the American slang word.
The word was widely used in the TV series All in the Family long ago.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sellers do not make eBay money simply by listing, buyers make that money available through purchases. The seller's fee, eBay's primary income, only exists because a buyer was willing to pay.

No so unless the seller doesn't include fees etc. in their decision(s) on what price to put on a listing so as to make a profit. So as a buyer I believe I am paying the fees etc. in the end.........................

·9 months agoYes; they are aware and when they show those items, a buyer winds up buying SOMETHING and ebay MAKES $$ and that is all they care about.
By the way; this has been going on for nearly 5 years.
Be the lowest price or this site will get RICH and you will remain poor.

·9 months agoOther Sellers listing popping up in Sellers listings have been going on way longer than 5 years.
Mid 2000's at the least. I lost my big account back in 2021. I know it was happening years prior to that. At one time, they were lined up across the bottom of your items selling page. You never saw them until a potential Buyer scrolled through your entire listing page. Today they're splitting up your listing page in 2-3 different sections. First you see pictures, price, other listings below that. Item Specifics, more ads. The Description, more ads below that. It's ridiculous.

·8 months agoThose listings were Not up front in 2011 when I started selling full time; and they only began being 'up front-right below the main screen and above a sellers description, when PROMOTIONS started (used to be 1% and a great way to have MY item show on others that did NOT do Promotions...but then that went away; now sometimes promoted items, sometimes not, or a mix of both)

·9 months agoThe sponsored ads on my catalog pages are rarely of the identical item I am selling, and the buyers who reach my pages are looking to buy what I am selling. I do not feel that it is costing me sales.
There are more items being offered for sale on Ebay than there are buyers who will buy them. Sponsored ads are a way for Ebay to monetize the listings which are costing them money and will not sell. Better them doing that than reducing the number of listings which come with my store.
I doubt the buyers who find your pages click through the ads. If your items are not selling, there is some other reason.

·9 months agoI'll confess. I've done it.
I look at Hotwheels all day just skimming through ebay. I have been looking at one Sellers listing, and exact same Hotwheel listed by another Seller IS sitting right there in that Sellers listing, at a cheaper price, I have left the first Sellers listing and "Favorited", "Liked", â¤ï¸ that second Sellers listing without ever going back to the first Sellers listing.
Does it bother me that other Buyers may have(Might Have) left MY listing and went bought somewhere else when they saw the SAME item I have for sale listed cheaper by another Seller that popped up on MY listing? Yes. But, I don't know if it happened, happens or not. As a Seller AND Buyer, I'm doing it. It's part of ebay. Love....Hate. ðŸ˜

·9 months agoThe OP does not have any items as common as most Hot Wheels among his listings.
The ads on his pages are similar or unrelated to his item.
My comment was specific to his listings, not common commodity products.
hotwheelsbum
·9 months agoI looked at his "Specific" listings. All 5 of his listings, from the Rose Perfume, to the Navy Slides, to the still sealed Tennis Calendar/Poster, had Sell Similar items from other Sellers embedded right there in his Listings. ALL 5 had SIMILAR items, Not exact, but Similar. Are they "Common Commodity Products"? No, not really, but there are SIMILAR listings to what he's selling, and what other sellers are selling. Sell Similar is not Sell exact.
Is a Red Tennis Ball and a Purple Tennis Ball EXACT or SIMILAR? Same applies here, and that is the issue OP is having.
