·2 years agoeBay hasn't bothered with what text people put into photos for years. I see stuff like that all the time when I'm price matching. A popular one is putting a business card into the photo with the object. 😒

·2 years agoExactly. This site is simply too big to be policing all of this stuff without a tremendous amount of resources devoted to this kind of oversight - nearly 2 billion items? I don't think so. It would be great if people followed the rules, but I'd rather see the allocation spent on site maintenance.

·2 years agoDo you guys remember the seller that posted here about a year ago that lost on a SNAD return and was so angry they made a sign that said "eBay sucks buy from Etsy"** and they put that as the background of all their listing photos? They swore they were leaving eBay. That seller is still on eBay today with about 70 listings, but the sign is gone from their photos.
**Moderators: I am not condoning this action or suggesting anybody leave eBay for another venue. I am relaying a story of something that happened on this forum a year ago in line with the current discussion of off-eBay text on listing photos, and how that seller's actions didn't work out the way they planned.

·2 years agoIt's not just AI, their Customer Service Agents can't tell when a listing is a policy violation.
Reported some Trump sneakers earlier today and this is what I received:
"We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent. "
I haven't seen one of those listings that don't violate some policy.

·2 years agoApparently ebay's AI can't recognize it when a web address is typed in the description either (according to the response I got about a report I made.)

OP2 years agoYep, that's usually what you get when you report a violation.
It's getting crazy out there.
40,000+ listings with a web address clearly and intentionally in every listing.
Not easy to compete with that.
