Signature confirmation signed by m. mailman for INR - am I protected?
buyer opened a INR case
the package ($185) was sent with signature confirmation
got a copy of the signature info page and it is a scribble by 'm. mailman'
Are the mailpeople still doing that (I know that was a covid habit) ?
am I protected nonetheless?

·3 years agoI had to sign for Fed Ex and UPS and USPS yesterday. They were packages mailed to me...one International and two from East Coast. There is electronic confirmation and also written conformation signature from my post office. Anyone in your family can sign for it....I let my other half sign for me...on 4th floor no elevator. I have also signed for some neighbors without a problem.

·3 years agoI would never get signature for anything that doesn’t require it. It will cause far more trouble. If a buyer wants to commit fraud having a signature makes absolutely zero difference. You are wasting your money.

also noting that I have the signature confirmation in a .pdf (but there isn't an option to upload any photos).
I am loathe to communicate with the buyer to tell them that their mailman signed for it
dolce: you mean trouble by annoying a buyer? You really don't think that having a signature helps at all for a INR?

·3 years agoAs long as tracking shows delivered the signature is meaningless when the total paid by the buyer is under $750. And honestly, a signature just means some human signed for the package, it doesn’t mean anything more than that. A buyer can still run the same exact shenanigans. Save that money you were going to spend on the signature for a rainy day.
Most buyers don’t want to have to sign for a package especially one valued at $100. It makes it very complicated for them. Most people work during the time usps attempts to deliver. They don’t want to have to go to the post office to retrieve their packages. Also, the longer the post office holds onto the package, the greater the chances something will go wrong.

·3 years agoIt does not, except in cases where eBay requires it, which is for a sale of $750 or higher. Below that point, Delivery Confirmation gives you the same seller protection for free.

·3 years ago$185 does not require sig conf so the delivery scan is all you need to win a not received claim. Upload tracking to the INR. Advise the buyer to speak with their carrier or local PO if they cannot find the package.
Buyer,
According to tracking [number/carrier], your package was delivered on [date]. Here are some steps you can take to try and locate the package.
1. Call your local PO and ask them to check the GPS coordinates to make sure it wasn't delivered to a neighbor.
2. If they confirm it was delivered to your address, ask them to check with the carrier to find out where the package was left (or speak directly with your carrier). Sometimes carriers will leave packages by the garage or behind the bushes if they think it's more secure.
3. Check with other members of your household and your neighbors to see if someone else picked up the package and put it aside for you.
4. If you come to the conclusion that the package was stolen off your porch then you can file a report with the police, USPS and your homeowners insurance.
5. If theft is a pattern in your area, then look into more secure delivery options such as a box for your porch, a PO box, or having packages delivered to a friend/family member or your work address.

I think it stops a lot of people from claiming non-delivery (but not all, obviously)
Not sure if I want to communicate with the buyer (yet)
what will ebay do now ? close the case?

·3 years agoNo, since delivery occurred before the INR was opened it will remain open until either buyer or seller escalates or until it times out in a month due to inactivity.
When you see the option to ask eBay to step in, click that option and add a comment: Per USPS tracking [number], package was delivered on [date]. Buyer should work with their post office and local police if they believe the package was stolen from their porch.
