Should I even request negative feedback removal or let it ride?
I recently received a negative feedback and am on the fence about requesting removal for a few reasons.
I have seen some sellers state that the comment was removed while the rating remained and that wouldn't be cool at all should that happen, because the context would be lost and that would be even worse than the comment itself. I did reply to the negative feedback which would alert other sellers to the buyer behavior - failing to attempt to resolve the issue through contact/returns - in that case, the feedback itself may be enough to encourage other sellers to block the buyer preemptively. I may be saving grief for someone else by leaving it up. Taking it down gives this buyer more opportunities to be obtuse. For community reasons, I may prefer to leave it. For personal reasons, it bugs me, but isn't the end of the world.
Opinions? Leave it as is? Request removal? What would you do?
I keep thinking I would advise someone else in the same situation to let it stand for the reasons I stated above but I need to hear what others think.
Thanks in advance.

·4 months agoI can't thank you enough for your kind and generous advice and thoughts. Here's the thing: this buyer is a huge SELLER as well, in the same genre as this item! So this person would know what harm can be inflicted here. I am a very small non-commercial seller and ONLY of personal items. My own thoughts in your matter: you must respond to the feedback, and I think if Ebay does you the service of removing whatever was written, you are far better off. I really was amazed that Ebay allowed this improper feedback to stand, but then again, the buyer's a big fish and I am not.

·4 months agoI'd leave it - the FB is kind of dizzy and your comment is fine. People tend to be more interested in how sellers solve problems, not necessarily what the problem was, and you show a willingness to resolve this if the buyer had only contacted you first.

OP4 months agoI agree - I was already leaning toward just leaving it - it is just going to be on my nerves until it drifts away one day.
Thank you for the thoughtful response.

Your response to this red donut was perfect!
Now block this buyer and move on.

OP4 months agoDone immediately.
I agree. Not worth more energy.
Thank you.

·4 months agoYour response to the feedback is a good one (IMO). Buyers looking at your feedback will see it but I really doubt that the buyer will ever see it unless she makes it a point to go back and look at the neg she left you.
Have you tried contacting the buyer? Sounds like an uninformed buyer who has been burned before and doesn't look at the seller's return policy and doesn't know about the MBG; just thinks they are stuck with the item and their only recourse is to leave a negative. Maybe it wouldn't hurt if you gently informed her.

OP4 months agoI don't like sticking my hand in a hornet's nest, but she is just under the return window. I will give that a try.

OP4 months agoThanks - I don't have any experience with this situation - I don't want to go to the trouble and then also risk the comment being removed but the rating staying. I am leaning toward leaving it as is.

·4 months ago@meme6253 No it isn’t, I find it very easy to have both negative and neutral feedback removed. I’ve had quite a few.

OP4 months agoHave you ever had the comment removed but the rating stays? I am seeing several instances of that happening to other sellers and that is NOT a risk I want to take.
Again, I have no experience with this situation and prefer to proceed cautiously.
Thanks.

·4 months agoI don’t ever leave replies feedback I think it is tacky. But yes, I recently had negative comments removed with the positive donut remaining you can see it on page 2 of my feedback. I actually had to request a call back to have that feedback removed.

I think that happens when a buyer puts personal information in the feedback they leave or uses vulgar language, something like that. eBay will remove the comment, usually replacing it with a couple of dots, but will leave the donut.

·4 months agoI have not had the same experience, & this subject is brought up a lot here with many sellers frustrated with it.

·4 months agoIf you offer returns at all you would have issues with feedback removal. I don’t offer returns because I’m not running a library.
Plus when I request removal I use the same reason every time
Doesn’t follow eBay policies (examples:legal concern, manipulation, extortion, etc.)

·4 months agoUp to you.....your answer was good.......Acknowledging the buyer disappointment was great! I would have left out the feedback left criticism and just said, all my items have a 30 day return option.......
You may be able to get it removed as a "product review", stating that you said vintage and the sizes in IS.....

OP4 months agoAccording to "AI" (insert eye roll) I have a few avenues for removal with a human review but I am truly undecided. Thank you for the thoughtful response.

·4 months agoI never seek advice on whether or not to have feedback removed, nor am I ever on the fence about it. I get it done. But if you offer returns just ask your buyer to return it.
Having feedback removed is a decision for you make for yourself not ask others what you should do.
