Should I close my account and reopen another? Sales drastically down since bad review.
Hi all,
A few months ago, I shipped an iPad to a customer in Israel via the EISD program. I mailed the item out on-time as advertised but the package was held up multiple times at the eBay distribution center in Illinois and during international transit for weeks on end (wonder if the war played a role?).
The customer was absolutely unhinged about the delay and blew up my inbox on a daily basis demanding to know where the package is, claiming I scammed her, calling me a liar etc. I tried vainly to assure her concerns but nothing I said seemed to make a difference. Well lo and behold, the item finally arrived in Tel Aviv and the harassment immediately stopped but before it arrived, she left me a long and nasty review to which eBay removed the dialog but refused to remove the rating itself. I'm a relatively new seller with a modest amount of listings and only 6 reviews so this 1 bad review knocked down my rating to an abysmal 87.5 and customers rarely ever leave reviews.
Now I only get an order maybe once every other week at best. Buyers appear to be far more demurring and apparently like my goods as I still get views and watchers but no longer have confidence to buy. Thus, I'm considering closing my account and reopening a new one for a clean slate especially since the holidays are coming. Will eBay allow this? Does it make sense? I've tried opening a 2nd account before in the past but for some reason, the system kept glitching and refused all my forms of ID. Maybe I need to delete this one before opening a new account?

·2 years agoThat negative says nothing bad about you as a seller. It actually says nothing. It looks like it will fall off in about six months. I say wait it out.

·2 years agoI guess the part I do not get is WHY haven't you left feedback for all the other sales you have?
That is just weird in my personal opinion. I would not buy from you just based on that.

·2 years ago? I'm not sure I understand why - buyer feedback is pretty irrelevant which is why one may as well leave it first. Their "feedback" to me is a well wrapped and promptly shipped as-described item.

·2 years agoI agree with @chapeau-noir .
You do not have much listed so you can't expect a lot of sales. I would ride this out on this present account. Sales won't increase with a new account.
Keep on listing desireable items and the sales will come. You need more listings that buyers would want.

·2 years agoI would not advocate doing that as you'll start from 0-land again, and there's nothing to say that someone can't spring another neg on you on your new account, anyway, and you will have lost all the hard-earned feedback you have now. Despite the low %% you have good feedback and you seem to be selling, albeit slowly - with only 40 listings, I really wouldn't expect you to be selling much faster, anyway, unless you had a bunch of super in-demand items.
My advice would be to hang on, but list more items, get more activity going, leave feedback first if you're not doing so, work with what you have. You'll dig yourself out of this.
ETA: Also, anyone looking at your FB will realise that you got that one clunky FB and that's it.
