I recently noticed that Ebay is charging the buyer the exact shipping cost estimated. It used to be higher to allow for errors in the weight and size. Why is this?

·2 years agoeBay first "advertised" this idea to sellers so they would get more happy buyers, suggesting, of course, that it would bring more sales. All the while eBay was implementing policies that continued to interfere with the best savings a buyer could get on ebay: combined shipping for one shipping price.
Apparently, since eBay did not get enough volunteers for this, they decided to auto-enroll all seller accounts who use calculated shipping to charge the buyer the same as the discount.. Of course, they still charge a fee on what the buyer pays for shipping. To give them credit, they did at least announce it this time, and provided the link to un enroll your ID from the program.

·2 years agoA few months ago, eBay decided that all sellers should be defaulted to the option to charge buyers the discounted eBay shipping rates in their listings. You can correct this in your site preferences:

·2 years agoeBay chose to change your account to give the buyers the exact costs.
You can go into shipping preferences and switch it back.
Or you can add a "service fee" to all your listings.
Many sellers were very unhappy with this across the board change but ...

OP2 years agoGot it! I will change mine back. I don’t like this at all because many times I estimate the shipping and then it’s actually more when I ship it.
