Shipping label overcharge fraud eBay Labels
Summary: The discussion revolves around vtgbeersigns expressing frustration over extra charges on shipping labels purchased through eBay, alleging fraudulent overcharges and difficulty resolving shipping disputes. vtgbeersigns claims to have incurred financial losses due to these issues, with eBay and UPS allegedly falsifying shipping dimensions leading to unexpected fees. mam98031 and other participants try to clarify that these charges often stem from carrier adjustments post-shipment and suggest using alternatives like Pirate Ship for purchasing labels. Despite advice, vtgbeersigns remains dissatisfied with eBay's handling and is considering legal action, perceiving the platform as having technology flaws and customer service failures. The thread emphasizes ongoing disputes about eBay's terms of service and transaction processing, with no resolution to vtgbeersigns's satisfaction.
I've had enough of the false and fake over charges , never happens with pirate ship or buying direct , on through eBay labels. Is there any eBay employee that can resolve this situation so I can keep selling on here. Shipments are over
due because my balance is $0 from eBay pulling $380 in false shipping charges. Net loss selling on here in March and May because eBay shipping label and insurance fraud. Note: I've sold and shipped the same item over 15 times and never an issue. I fought like heck to get overcharges corrected from November and December and these seem like revenge orders. One , a mirror was sold , paid $60 to ship , ups charged an extra $180 falsifying dimensions , customer stated it "broke" in transit , eBay labels and ups refused to insure it with proof an pictures and refused to reverse fraud shipping charge. Now this item eBay labels added 2-3" per side and charged an extra $380. I have video and photo proof of all my stuff. I want this corrected before my buyers cancel their orders. I've been straight up with them what the issue is and why I will not ship until this corrected. I'm not here to giveaway my stuff and waste time and money on shipping.

OP3 months agoI'm not worried about it, all the buyers know the full true story. This is a pathetic joke caused by eBays shipping account.
mam98031
·3 months agoThat is a very curious statement. So you get to keep the product those buyers bought and their money [if they paid you], even if Ebay used their payments to cover money you owed to Ebay [whether you agree with them or not]? And you don't think the buyers will get upset when they realize what happened?
The only reason they may not get upset is they either never paid in the first place or they did pay and got refunded.
vtgbeersigns

OP3 months agoLol... Nobody that has sold on here for awhile and constantly gotten screwed over defends eBay on every dispute. I pay extremely high selling fees and expect actual support from the company. This forum is a wash, just like if someone has complaint or criticism for something a corporate on reddit , all the minions come attacking the poster. Personally I don't care and not surprised. I'm only posting on here to get eBays attention to THERE PROBLEM and warn other sellers of the reality of selling on here.
mam98031
·3 months agoEbay has approximately 18 million active sellers. About 80% of them or so are small sellers. You are not alone and I've given you information that clearly shows that. You do NOT pay higher selling fees that other sellers in the categories you sell in unless you are over utilizing Promoted Listings. But then that is your choice to make. Sellers set the additional fees they are willing to pay for a sale.
I have NOT attacked you in ANY post I've made. Not a one. You just don't like what I've shared with you but can't see the difference I guess.
Posting on the threads does NOT get Ebay's attention. This is a forum for member. An Ebay employee rarely joins a thread unless someone invites them.
The links to some other threads regarding the SAME problem you have would have given you more information had you of taken the time to read them.
vtgbeersigns
OP3 months agoI do pay on average 5% promoted fees, plus my shipping charges are usually high from $30-100+ per item, which eBay also takes 20% from. So yes I pay higher than average to eBay. Although I've slowed down on here, I've paid eBay and the carriers an astronomical amount , well above any profit ive seen on here , that continues to dwindle year over year
mam98031
·3 months agoWhile you may think you pay more, Ebay is not charging you more on anything than they charge others. You are not on an island of your own. I know it can feel that way sometime, but it simply is not correct. As for the Promo Fee, that is a rate YOU set. So if it is beneficial to keep paying that fee, then it makes financial sense to pay it, if it does not, then you should stop. Each seller makes those decisions on their own for what is best for them.

OP3 months agoExactly that's what I'm going to do. Unfortunately they don't have FedEx will have to use shippo or FedEx directly. It's just a pita takes 2-3 days to get funds from an order to ship I'm just going to adjust my handling time to 5 days. This whole issue has destroyed my relationship with ups from the November-December orders and causes me an extra 30 mile round trip drive to drop off. Selling on here has become a stressful chore vs a hobby to keep me busy and possibly make a little extra money. I just don't see much of a future here.

mam98031
·4 months agoWhat transaction are you trying to cancel? What are the details? You can't cancel a transaction if the buyer paid and you shipped the item, even if you have received it back. That would not be what the cancellation process is used for. So if you can tell us more about what happened with the transaction, possibly we could help.
vtgbeersigns
OP4 months agoI have 4-5 orders to ship , but refuse to ship them because eBay has taken all the money from the orders because this fraudulent shipping charge. I'm not paying $150+ out of pocket to ship items I never even got paid for. This on top of a fraud order from March where I had eat $350 because eBay blocked me from doing an insurance claim and blocked me from appealing another fake fraud shipping charge for $180 after eBay and UPS kept asking for more information for 2 months before denying it. I told the buyer to cancel if they couldn't wait on eBay to do the right thing. They did , and I cannot refund them because I never got the money. Haven't had a payout on here in 17 days
mam98031
·4 months agoI understand the way you feel.
The cancellation you would need to process as a SELLER reason, not the way you were trying to do it with the buyer requesting it.
Because you told the buyer to request a cancellation does not qualify as the buyer requesting a cancellation.
I get it why you are trying to do it the way you have stated, because you don't want to get the defect on your account, but that still doesn't make what you are doing right. Ebay has really started buckling down on sellers that abuse the cancellation process over the past year.
Again I understand why you are trying to do what you are trying to do, but it isn't how the process is designed.
vtgbeersigns
OP4 months agoI'm not abusing the policy, they opened the cancellation not me. Furthermore , since my eBay balance is -$12.00 because more miniscule charges , and my eBay bank account is empty, there's no way to refund because I never got paid for the last 5 items sold.
mam98031
·3 months agoI know it is hard to see through your anger over the transaction involving this high rate of shipping. As I've said many times I get it. However that does not mean you can change the rules to suit your needs on Cancellation. According to you, you emailed your buyer and ASKED the to Cancel the transactions if they weren't willing to wait until you resolved your current issues with this transaction you started this thread on.
It really doesn't matter if you agree or you don't, what I've shared with you is still correct, it is still abusing the Cancellation process.
vtgbeersigns
OP3 months agoI didn't ask them at all , and not abusing the cancellation policy. it's illegal to sell something and not get compensated through a third party website , we call that theft , and the seller is expected to ship out of pocket to fulfill the order they haven't received funds for. You have 5 buyers who think eBay is an absolute joke because it's been 10-15 days since they've purchased and haven't had it shipped yet. When they reach out I explain to them the situation and they have an opportunity to cancel, which one has but I can't refund them. This platform is seriously pathetic , and needs major changes as buyers have been on a steep decline for the past 4 years with no end in sight. Incapable sellers , Ai, no customer service , sellers getting defrauded , buyers getting defrauded by bad sellers , it's a complete joke now. The tech being used costs more than traditional programming and employees, yet they have to compensate paying the Ai developers by ripping people off and cutting off customer service.

onefootflipper
·4 months agoYou seem to already have your own solution, which is to use pirateship.
I might have one guess as to what is going on with those blowmolds.
Are you just chucking them into the box since they are pretty much indestructible?
If so, then what might be happening is that the boxes are getting mangled a bit which is making them show larger to the automated systems. This could easily be combined with your local hubs perhaps getting upgrades to their automated systems which are now picking it up when it didn't used to.
I know if you chuck a blow mold into the box and then beat the heck out of the box then it will probably measure 2-3" larger in at least 2 dimensions.
vtgbeersigns
OP4 months agoNot at all. I've shipped over a thousand blow molds and pack them correctly and snug in the box. I'm not Walmart throwing a 24" blow mold in a 60" box showing up damaged and Walmart paying the carrier $5 meanwhile the carrier is charging me $500 for a 24x18x36 box that isn't even big. Like I've said over shipped over honestly if I go back to 2020 40+ different sleigh and reindeer blow mold combos. NEVER has it cost more than $80-150 max depending on number of boxes and reindeer. Even if it's one reindeer the sleigh , runners , and 1 reindeer go in a 24x18x36 box , head in 12x12x12 box , other reindeer 34x30x5 box. It's complete and total **bleep**. I'm not eating the money and refuse to pay. Which means I'm not shipping anything until this is fixed. This and the order in March is nothing more than what seems like fraud orders used to extort me for $. I've had over 100 emails with ups and their "eBay" department.

OP4 months agoI suggest eBay provides the service they're paid for.
jonathanbrightlight
·4 months agoWhat service do you think they’re not providing?
vtgbeersigns
OP4 months agoFirst is the provide and sell shipping labels under their mega account. Yes we get a discount but it's nothing more than having your own account. eBay is profiting off labels and there is essentially 0 customer service or support for any inquiries. Next they never fight for the sellers and just roll over , and the carrier almost automatically wins any grievance , furnishing 0 proof of their "digital audits". eBay claims only one reversal per lifetime of account now , and apparently that's the same for insurance claims , because ups stated on my last claim I was blocked. After 40 emails and submitting every single document and photo, yet again they denied it and said "1 per lifetime of account." Which opens the book for fraud and zero customer support. I'm lucky to profit a few hundred bucks a month after costs , fees , and discounts there's no point in doing this anymore when I'm getting extorted for $300+ plus every month and have to dig into my personal finances just keep selling my stuff. This is ridiculous. This mainly just started happening in fall of 2025 , you can add up a couple hundred orders where it's $2 to $15 in extra fees per box which I haven't even challenged yet, but looks like I'm gonna have to. It's embarrassing to even get to this point and have to tell customers I'm not shipping because eBay has taken 100% of the money for my last 5 orders and expects me pull $200+ out of my personal finances to ship items I haven't seen a dime from and may not ever see a dime from.
jonathanbrightlight
·4 months ago@vtgbeersigns
I’m not seeing anything in that wall of text about a service eBay said they would provide but didn’t. You misunderstood or didn’t read the terms, but eBay allowed you a method to purchase the label as promised.
mam98031
·4 months ago"...we get a discount but it's nothing more than having your own account." That is unlikely. Unless you sell a lot more stuff on other sites too. Volume is important to what pricing you will get.
" eBay is profiting off labels..." Yes of course. They are providing a service and as such should make money off of it. How do you think other sites that only provide online postage / shipping make money. IE: stamps.com, pirateship, etc.
40+ emails is likely to cause issues with whomever you are emailing for whatever reason you may have. As I stated earlier, I get why you are upset and that I'd likely be upset too if it happened to me. But you may want to consider your approach to resolving the issue before you dive and and start harassing others, because 40+ emails is harassing and way over the top. Because you can't see that is in and of itself a problem.
Take a breath. This issue is likely something you can resolve, but you need to slow down and work with people. It appears it is more important to make sure you make or present the other guy as being at fault rather than finding out what happened and why. And without knowing that, you will never resolve the issue.

·4 months agoI once sold a High Dollar Metabo $$$ Circular Saw. Shipped it in an 18x18x18 box. FEDEX & Ebay probably liked my profit margin and wrote the box dimensions as 60" wide. I got robbed for $120. Luckily for me the buyer was in Los Angeles 4 hours away from me. Imagine had it gone to New York. I don't want to Imagine.
And yes, I rounded up to 19x19x19 just in case but they still got me. Since then I have done 0 Business with FEDEX and I've convinced my family members into doing the same. Adios FEDEX
mam98031
·4 months agoEbay would have no way of knowing what your "profit margin" was unless you shared with them how much you paid for the item and any other costs of sale you had. And certainly Fedex would have no idea.
Ebay, when creating the label would not change the dimensions on your item. They would have no way of knowing what the size, packaged would be. Fedex after receiving the package may change something once they inspect it much like other carriers do when there is an issue. They of course aren't always right.
bonanza125
·4 months ago"Actually it is an eBay issue because it's their shipping account and they have withdrawn the funds without my permission."
Actually you did give permission when you purchased the label. You are actually paying the carrier which is UPS. UPS is the ones who are saying your dimensions and weight are off so they charged you. This is a very common complaint around here.
"APPARENTLY PAYING EBAY, UPS, FEDEX OVER $250,000 SINCE 2020 ISNT ENOUGH THEY HAVE TO SCAM ME FOR EVEN MORE MONEY?"
You have not been scammed but overcharged due to UPS decision that your numbers were off. You must talk with UPS and Ebay. There isn't anything we can do to make this situation go in your favor other than keep fighting with appeals. Ebay, UPS and FedEx do not care about the $250,000 you spent in over 6 years. vtgbeersigns
OP4 months agoIt's not USPS , it's eBay shipping account labels , mainly UPS now all of the sudden FedEx. Everything is scanned and weighed "Digitally" at the main sorting facility. It can be a piece of tape hanging or damaged cardboard. Since when I ship on eBay it's "Their Account", it's highly suspect on the overcharges , whereas you never get charges like this on other third parties or shipping direct. eBay also imposed their own "rules" of one shipping challenge per life of account now and 1 insurance claim per life of account now. They don't say anything nor is there any disclaimer when buying labels off eBay , which they profit off of , heavily. Yes next step is hiring an attorney , but first you must file formal complaints with corporate at eBay and the shipping company , then either a civil suit or binding arbitration. Obviously it's not just the loss of money on labels , it's a massive loss of business with major ramifications once it can no longer stay in business from operating in the red and turning down sales. "Ai" chatbots are a scapegoat for NO CUSTOMER SERVICE as well as what's left with it outsourced to a different country , where they no longer can do anything. This is basically a weaponization of technology

OP4 months agoIt's the only way to deal with the same questions and responses you get from customer "support"
mam98031
·4 months agoNot really. As you are likely aware, all caps mean you are yelling. Yelling at someone in order to get them to try and help you usually results in the opposite reaction than you are looking for. Because you aren't getting the answers or responses you want does not mean that the person trying to help you is doing anything wrong. It could be your approach or how you are explaining it. Most people simply don't react well to being yelled at.
The shipping amounts that Ebay deducts when creating a shipping label for a seller is driven by the information that the seller supplies on the order. Ebay doesn't create their own information, they simply have no way of doing that.
You need to slow down a bit, I get it that you are upset, heck I would be too. But just slow down and look at the details of the shipping information that you set up for this transaction more closely. You may need to walk away for a little bit and allow your mind to clear so you can have a clearer vision of what the information is telling you.
Ebay did NOT withdraw any money from you without your permission. You gave that permission to the long ago when you agreed to the User Agreement. Ebay does not seek or receive a new authorization for every seller for every penny they may need to charge a given seller. That has never been a thing.
Ebay also does not just change carriers on a seller because they want to for some reason. That serves no purpose.
Instead of being concerned about you being blamed for an error, isn't it more important to find out what actually happened so that you can either battle the overcharge or fix the problem so it never happens again?
Insurance claims you may have won in the past would have nothing to do with a situation as you describe it here. Two completely different things.

This only way to have correct fees charged is to put in the exact weights and measures and round up.

This really sounds like a problem that you are causing somehow. There is no person at ebay or any of the shipping services waiting for your orders to come in so they can overcharge you.
