Shipping Fragrance to Puerto Rico
Summary: lejunkfarm is confused about the policy on shipping fragrance to Puerto Rico. They received conflicting information from eBay's AI search, with one response stating it isn't allowed due to hazmat restrictions, while another said it's fine using USPS Ground Advantage. itsjustasprain confirmed that fragrances are considered hazmat due to alcohol content and typically require air shipping. lejunkfarm decided to block a buyer attempting to redirect the shipment, and is still seeking a clear answer for future reference.
A potential buyer who lives in PR is interested in a fragrance listing. I searched into eBay's policy using their AI search and it stated Puerto Rico, while domestic still falls under international shipping so it said no to hazmat material.
I've shipped a non-hazardous item to Puerto Rico before using USPS Ground Advantage since Puerto Rico is considered domestic, but is it a different story for fragrance/perfumes?
**** I just did a second search rephrasing my questions through eBay's AI engine and it gave a completely different answer -- that stated yes, it's okay to ship fragrance to PR since it's domestic and using USPS Ground Advantage is fine.
Which is correct? I already told the buyer per eBay's rules I wasn't able to ship this fragrance listing item to them........
Thanks for a reply

·3 weeks ago · EditedYes - it qualifies as Hazmat due to its alcohol content and mail to Puerto Rico generally goes by air.
I suppose it would have to go by boat and I have no idea how long that would take.

OP3 weeks agoI wound up blocking the buyer when they asked if I could then ship to a relative in the contiguous states because if fragrance can't be shipped domestic to the PR; the relative still wouldn't be able to ship either. While the profile had only one purchase more than a year ago, I just used my better judgement as the response was off to ship elsewhere other than the address registered to the eBay account.
But I still can't find a solid answer for future reference whether shipping fragrance/perfume is allowed to Puerto Rico since by USPS it's considered domestic shipping using USPS Ground Advantage. Gemini and Copilot also gave me conflicting answers.
