Shill Bidding - File Complaint
We all knows it happens too often. I have substantial proof of a seller (Chinese Consignment Shop) where in the last 3 minutes of auction, multiple bids are placed by zero-feedback users that drive the price significantly up (no other bidders), and then the card gets relisted the following 2-3 days.
i have filed multiple complaints to eBay over the last 2 weeks. Does a user ever get feedback regarding these submissions?

·1 year agoDue to privacy concerns, they cannot tell you the findings of their investigation, but just the fact it is continuing, there’s your answer. I no longer can see Shill Bidding AKA “using other accounts to inflate the price†even being an option in the dropdown box menu- (even tho it is a FEDERAL CRIME. You can still phone in and request to speak to someone in Trust & Safety, and have them investigate. If you have reported it and your reports have gone ignored, jeopardizing the integrity of all sellers, you have every right to then contact the FTC, FINCEN, your Attorney General, and other Law Enforcement Agencies. There’s actually services out there that you can give all of the information to- they do everything for you, and they get paid with funds from the settlement you get from the crooked sellers and whatever platform is allowing this activity.

·1 year agoyou are wasting your time, I would just find another seller.
as far as bidding online ebay while there are always going to be shill bidders is the most trustworthy place that I know of.
In the world of online auctioneers they can ALWAYS see the bidders max bid, at least the shill bidders on ebay are always running the risk of bidding one time to many and you can look and see how many bid retractions the bidder has made and the bid history is available after the auction, not so with other online auctions.

·1 year agoShill bidders are common at live auctions and I suspect that some eBay sellers are using shills. I knew two guys that had physical stores about 1/2 miles apart and were constantly bidding on each others stuff to drive up the prices on unsuspecting eBay buyers. One was kicked off for a month and the other was kicked off for 3 months.

·1 year agoSounds hinkey to me but "(Chinese Consignment Shop)" would have me looking no further. I hear of so many problems with Chinese anything with online sellers that I just quit paying any attention to them.

·1 year agoI have received feedback on every report of shill bidding I have submitted and eBay has confirmed multiple times the item and/or account has been taken down.

Another common complaint is from sellers who say that zero feedback buyers win their auctions and then don't paying, forcing the seller to have to relist the item.
Does a user ever get feedback regarding these submissions?
No, eBay does not share what happens when a buyer is reported.

But it looks exactly like what the OP is describing, except that it is definitely NOT shill bidding.

·1 year agoCreating sales info is falsification of proof of business history, how is this not fraud and cause for immediate removal? I'd write my own story differently too, stop making everyone compete against cheaters who lower the bar for themselves.

No, and this is not quite the same as shill bidding. The idea of the "shill" bidder is NOT to win the auction, but simply jack up the price so YOU pay more. Since they are outbidding you, and the item is relisted, it seems to me the point of the activity is to NOT let the auction sell for too small of an amount.
Of course there could be other explanations, but so long as you don't win at a higher price due to the supposed activity there is nothing much you can do. When we were still allowed to see the bidder IDs it was easier to detect. When they got turned into something like (x*****z) masked IDs and loss of transparency many did call it the "shill bidder protection policy".

·1 year agoWas going to say. Shill bidders aren't in it to win, they're in it to be the second-highest bidder and push the actual winner into paying as high a price as possible. Something funky might indeed be going on here, but it's not shill bidding.

OP1 year agoLet’s be clear - yes, they are driving the price up, and no it seems like they are not attempting to win, but they don’t want the auction to end below a certain price. Whether we call it shill bidding or not, the point is there is ‘collaboration’ to drive the price higher than what it should sell for and is illegal. My question was whether users ever get any feedback from filing these types of complaints, as I have filed multiple with clear evidence? If no, then I will stop.

·1 year agoBut what do you mean by "feedback"? Whatever you're picturing, if you didn't get it from any of the multiple complaints you have filed, it would seem like the answer is 'no.'
