sending offers on sale items
I've been sending offers to items on sale, using Ebay' s maximum discount usually. This strikes me as a dumb thing to do, a double discount. I like to keep the send offer list trimmed. I guess I could just not look at it.
Do you also pull that stunt or decline to send offers when the items are already discounted?

·7 months agoWe send offers on discounted items, because we only discount older listings that we want to move, and another 10% off the sale price is worth it. Since we keep offers disabled for 3 months on new listings, and we remove offers from items that are at the minimum price we're willing to sell it for, I just have a filter set up that shows me items eligible to send offers that also have best offer enabled, and just send a blanket 10% off on all of those.

·7 months agoI just do it manually. We list without offers enabled. Then, I just regularly (usually every work day, but sometimes it gets missed for a day or two), I go back through our list of items that don't currently have offers enabled, find anything around 3m old, and enable offers.
Then, if we eventually lower the price to our minimum (usually $10), I also remove the best offer option at the same time.
I'd love it if there were a more automated way, but I'm just doing it via the Active Listings page for now.

·7 months agoI have been doing the same thing, I don't like it but it seems relentless the customers or Ebay keeps telling me to send offers, So I have been only because I am trying to reduce inventory, No matter what price you put on something they want it for less!

·7 months agoThat is not a reason I would ever consider when sending an offer. If that plays any part in your decision making, definitely just don't look.

OP7 months agoYes, I have my oldest books on 20% or 15% off I forget and I really want to sell them before I have to purge them. So you are probably right about being selective. I also need to pay more attention to offers I get. I don't accept really lowball offers but some may represent a larger discount than I have in mind.

·7 months agoI send out offers for items that are already discounted. The amount I set for the offer depends on how long the item has been listed. The longer it has been listed without a sale, the better the offer.
I only send offers for discounted items with watchers, not for items that only have views. This works well for me, but it may not be good for your business model.

·7 months agoI do it. If I just want something gone I am happy to throw another lower offer at a watcher on a sale item. It all depends on the item.
I'm kind of shocked at how many people don't even realize the item is already on sale. It happens a lot, which. makes me wonder how clear it is when they are browsing. One man asked for a discount a couple of weeks ago and I pointed out the item was already 35% off, he said he never saw it. Not the only one who has said this to me.
Sales are tight right now and I don't want to be a storage unit. Do what works best for you.

You are acting as if it is some requirement for you to send offers. It isn't. If don't want to give a double discount, don't do it. eBay has no control over that. You do.
My eyebrows raise when you state you use "eBay's maximum discount." So like, 90%? I'm not sure what you mean.
There is nothing to decline unless a buyer sends you an offer. You don't get to decline to send offers as a seller. You just don't send them.

OP7 months agoAs Chapeaue said, a whiff of desperation for sales. It's just dumb though. By "ebay's maximum discount" I meant that the bots control how much you can discount using an offer. I haven't done the math but I think that the offer has to be at least 90% or maybe less of the asking price.

·7 months agoI don't send offers on discounted items - I offer really decent discounts when I run a markdown sale, and IMHO it looks kind of desperate to be sending offers on top of discounts (and, yeah, a dumb thing to do).
