selling turpentine on ebay
Hi, I was just wondering if flammable items like Turpentine are allowed to sell on Ebay, which I can see people are selling but according to my online research, it is not allowed to ship flammable items then How is selling allowed?
Please elucidate on the subject.

Anything else related to local pickup, domestic and international shipping is irrelevant since the item cannot be sold here.
If the item was permitted then there are hazmat shipping guidelines to follow with each carrier, however that's not relevant to the sale of turpentine. eBay does not allow that product.
eBay's system does not prevent you from listing items. It's up to the seller to read policies and not list something just because others are doing it. Others may not be following policy and haven't gotten caught yet.

OP3 years agoThank you both for your input in clarifying the ambiguity. Here, the question arises, how can it go through the system? Is the system not capable of detecting policy violations? It's a bit confusing.
I myself listed Turpentine because I saw its listing on eBay. So my items were listed and I got a customer message from Sweden that he/she is interested in my product and if it is possible to ship it internationally, I replied that I will check and inform you. And when I checked it is not even allowed domestically so I immediately ended my listing. I think the system should be able to detect and not let you complete the listing, that's it.

·3 years agoThis becomes more a shipping issue. Flammable liquids can not ship air. They have to ship ground.

OP3 years agoOh, thank you it is getting interesting, Do you mean it can be sold but shipped only through the ground? that is not a problem, this option is available but domestically I understand.
But, according to our other community members, it is outrightly not allowed to ship it. I am confused!

·3 years agoTwo different sets of rules.
flammable or hazardous must go by ground. Some have special labeling requirements and some need permits. Those are USPS, FEDX and UPS rules. You would have to look them up.
Ebay has its own set of rules and many items are banned from being sold on their site. Many banned items are allowed to be shipped. Just not sold here.
there’s no conflict, just difference rules.

It's considered a hazardous and flammable material. Those types of items cannot go in flight, they could blow up the air plane at the right altitude. Yikes! The railroads most likely transport these types of items, so as others stated, sell it locally. I'm sure there are a lot of house painters out there who could use it, especially since spring is around the corner.
