Selling problems
I sold an item oj eBay, buyer paid for it through eBay, I sent the item to the buyer, and the buyer decided he couldn't afford it, and asked to send it back, however, he has not sent it back. In a short period of about two weeks, the buyer tried to getme to sell it to him for much less than it waslisted on eBay, in the meantime I had already shipped it to the buyer., and he asked to send it back, but still was trying to get me to let him keep it for the lower price. eBay stepped in and processed a refund to buyer, minus shipping charges and eBay fees. As it stands now, I have refunded the buyer as instruced by eBay with direct payment from my bank, and I do not have the item from the buyer. I tried to contact the buyer through "messagres" asking him to return the item, gave him, again, my shipping address, but to date I am out the refunded amount, and do not have the original productf. It appears I am at the mercy of the buyer to await receiving the product. Confusing, I know, but I guess it was my error in trusting both eBay and lthe buyer. Can anyone help?

·6 months agoAs janet9988 stated. Did you furnish the buyer with a return label within the time limit or did you let it go to eBay? This may be the answer.

·6 months agoSounds like you never sent the buyer a return label for the return.

·6 months agoI lot to read but to make it short.
a buyer opens a claim to return item...when seller receives it...then seller refunds.
Refunding before a return...means a refund and buyer will probably keep item.
It's a lesson learned.
Cool items for sale by the way!

Looking at your other listings, I see you accept 14-day returns. How did the buyer open the return? What reason did they give? If they opened as an item not as described and you have messages that the real reason is that they couldn't afford it, then they lied about the return reason. It is too late to get your item back, but you need to report them so this is on their account. In this situation, though they lied about the return reason, you should have issued a return label. As long as you reported them, eBay would have refunded up to $6 of the return shipping cost and you could have been able to get any account metrics adjusted to have the INAD removed. If you did not issue the label, then that is why eBay stepped in. You get dinged for the INAD in this case and for eBay having to step in.
If the buyer opened a return for an "at fault of buyer" reason, then assuming the listing in question was set up like your others, then buyer is responsible for the shipping label. In this case eBay should not have issued a refund, because the return cost was left up to the buyer.
Either way, you cannot do anything about getting your item back. Time to move on from that. What you can do is report the buyer for asking something of you that was not part of the listing. You report them for asking to get the item for a cheaper price after they bought it and you sent it to them. You may have told email this information, but without an offical report it didn't do you any good. If you had simply done that and had the messages to back it up, they may have lost their MBG and eBay would not have intervened as they had to do. You still need to report them for both reason I've stated so that this behavior is noted on their account. Then, block them.

·6 months ago@christworks I sure hope you didn't write all that for nothing. Looks like this could be another grief-dump-and-go poster.

Hopefully THIS one proves me wrong. But I am getting so tired of the dumpers that I think I'll be checking profiles of unfamiliar names before replying from now on.

·6 months agoOnce a buyer has been refunded you do not have any more recourse for them to return the item, Sorry I wish I had better news for you.

I've noticed that the blue Refund button is very prominent when you're responding to a return.
I think it confuses some sellers who believe they must click it before moving to the next step.

·6 months agoThere is a sequence of events for a return.
1) The buyer files a return case.
2) A return shipping label is created. It could be automatic or else require seller involvement.
3) The buyer ships the package back to the seller.
4) The seller issues the refund AFTER the package arrives.
Any deviation from that sequence has negative consequences for the seller.
eBay stepped in and processed a refund to buyer, minus shipping charges and eBay fees.
That indicates that you didn't issue a return label within the few day timeframe. The buyer is not required to return anything after the case is closed.
Sorry for your loss.

·6 months agoSomething does not make sense, why would EBAY "refund the money" BEFORE customer returned the item? EBAY procedure says when customer opens "return request" Seller waits until AFTER item is returned before refunding the customer.
Once you have given the customer a refund, you lost all leverage to get customer to "return this item".
Very sorry this happened to you, that is a hard less to learn. I hope you added this person to your "blocked bidder list" so they can no longer purchase your items.
