selling issues
Summary: 1-stop-carbide-tools expressed frustration over the hold on their funds by eBay, citing inconsistent explanations from eBay representatives despite fulfilling all seller obligations. Other participants clarified that eBay funds holds are typically due to large or unusual sales, suggesting that the risk management system triggers these holds automatically. While participants empathized with 1-stop-carbide-tools, they indicated that the holds are standard procedure for sellers with sudden large transactions and advised that contacting eBay may not bring immediate resolution. The discussion highlighted the challenges sellers face with eBay's automated risk policies.
Hello eBay Support,
I am contacting you regarding the continued hold on my funds and the inconsistent explanations I have received from eBay representatives.
I have contacted eBay multiple times, including speaking with managers, and each time I have been given different information regarding why my funds are being held. This has made it extremely difficult to understand what is actually required of me to resolve the issue.
I have been selling on eBay for a long time and have successfully completed thousands of dollars in sales. I have never previously had a restriction or issue of this nature on my account. I have also done everything required on my end, including shipping my orders on time and purchasing my shipping labels directly through eBay.
My concern is that I am being held responsible for tracking information not updating properly through USPS or eBay. I shipped the items within the required timeframes, and I should not be penalized for a delay or failure in the tracking system after I have fulfilled my responsibility as the seller.
I was also told that three packages from the 18th were a reason for the hold on my account because those packages were considered lost. I worked directly with those buyers to resolve those situations. In some cases, I issued refunds, and in others, I paid out of my own pocket to ship replacement inserts. I made every reasonable effort to take care of my customers despite the packages being lost by USPS.
I understand that eBay needs to protect buyers and maintain marketplace standards. However, I have fulfilled my responsibilities as a seller, have taken additional steps to resolve the affected transactions, and have a longstanding history of selling on the platform.
At this point, I am requesting a clear, definitive explanation of:
1. The specific reason my funds are currently being held.
2. The specific transactions or tracking numbers causing the hold.
3. What, if anything, I am required to do to have the hold removed.
4. The exact date or conditions under which my funds will be released.
I am asking that this matter be reviewed by the appropriate team and that I receive one consistent answer rather than being given different explanations each time I contact support.
I have fulfilled my obligations as a seller and have made every effort to resolve the issues that were outside of my control. I am therefore requesting that my eligible funds be released as soon as possible.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I would appreciate a written response clearly explaining the situation and the steps being taken to resolve it.
Sincerely,
1-Stop-CarbideTools

·1 week agoThis isn't ebay support.
We are buyers and sellers just like you.
That was a pretty long post you wrote without having any idea who it's going to.

·1 week agoThe holds are automatic and the exact triggers are unlikely to be known by anyone at Ebay who you could contact.
As several posters have stated, the large ticket sales are likely to be the major reason for the holds.
Your long term total of sales made is likely to be irrelevant. It appears that Ebay is looking at a much small window.
Holds on Internet marketplaces are increasing and many good or great sellers are finding their cash flow interrupted by them. The number of Ebay sellers is so large that Ebay is limiting their risks if a seller disappears without meeting their commitments to buyers.
Ebay is increasingly a site for businesses run like businesses, who have adequate working capital.

·2 weeks agoeBay's risk management system is a complex scoring system that considers dozens - if not hundreds - of factors regarding your account, your activity, and your listings.
All of these factors contribute to your risk assessment score, and it is the combination of all of those factors that determine your risk score and trigger the holds. So to sum up:
There is no clear and definitive explanation.
There is no specific reason.
There is no specific transaction or tracking number.
There is nothing you can do.
There is no exact date your funds will be released.

·2 weeks agoAs @pickapaper stated, the most likely reason your funds are being held are due to recent high dollar sales. The represent a change in your normal selling behavior and this is what will trigger an automatic hold. eBay is not concerned about market price fluxes or that you have bills to pay. If you ease into increasing your selling prices rather than a big jump, you normally don't get a hold. The big jump is the issue. For all eBay knows you are going to run off with the funds, close out your accounts tied to eBay, and won't ever be heard from again. This would leave eBay holding the bill to refund the buyer should there be an issue.
There is no need to speak with anybody at eBay. Many are going to tell you what you want to hear, maybe promise you they will be released in a couple of days. Some genuinely do not know policy.
The great thing is you can read about the different types of holds here. This way you know the specific situations to avoid getting a hold or at least can prepare for it.
If the big jump in selling price is the issue, eBay will hold the funds 30 days from the sale date. If the buyer has not reported any issues, the funds will be released on day 31. It is possible they will hold funds for smaller sales as well until you have demonstrated a positive selling pattern now that you are in the big leagues.

OP1 week agoI’ve done my time and earned my position where I’m at ! I’ve waited my 30 plus days and all the other holds they have! It’s not a big jump and they know that! I made over 100,000 dollars last year selling my items ! This issue was caused by a USPS where they didn’t update their tracking information! So why do I have to pay the price if it’s not my fault!

·1 week ago · Edited@1-stop-carbide-tools In your post you said the 18th. What else are we to assume but you are talking about September, especaily when you had large sales on that day.
The number of packages lost by USPS every year is an extremely low percentage. I've sold nearly five times as much as you in the past 90 days just on eBay. Do you know how many packages were lost? Zero. In fact, in almost 4 years and thousands of package sent out across all the platforms I've not had one package that has been truly lost. I've had some delayed. I've had a couple that were seemingly lost but eventualy got to the buyer after I refunded them and collected the insurance.
You edited your original post, I presume to clarify details. In one place you say tracking didn't upload and you think that is why your funds are being held. In another place you say you were told it was due to 3 packages - all from the same day - were 'lost.' What do you expect eBay to think?
I think you are going to have to wait this out. I'm sorry. It's not fun with your capital is tied up. eBay will probably not tolerate too many expensive lost orders before they ban you. I'd be getting receipts from the carriers every time I drop somethign off, and make them scan the packages in front of you so the tracking updates.

·2 weeks agoThere is no one on these boards from eBay (the company) and no one here has the authority to help you with your request.
I am guessing the item in question is the listing for the drills that sold for $2760.00. Looks like it sold on the 18th and again on the 21st. This is a much higher dollar amount than you normally sell so eBay is going to make sure that nothing goes wrong, in other words, they will probably hold your funds for about 30 days to make sure things go okay. This is not picking on you, this is normal procedure for anyone.
You can try contacting eBay but it probably won't do any good as they most likely won't change their policy for you.
