Selling for less than Shipping
I sell allot of DVD's, just wondering how someone can sell a DVD for 3.88 with free shipping. When it costs 4.39 for shipping alone not counting the costs of the DVD and e-bay fees?

·2 weeks agoSome DVD sellers take the disk and paperwork out of the large typical Amary case, slip into a thin protective sleeve, put it into an envelope and ship it within the USPS First Class guidelines for a buck and a half or so of stamps... still a handsome profit.

You didn't mention supplies, eBay fees, or cost of goods.
Many mass volume media sellers like that have several ways to turn a profit. Some have their own shipping deals with a carrier that gets them a better rate than what you see on eBay. Many others use sales and coupons to get buyers to buy more than one item. Even adding only one more DVD changes the price very little, if at all, and they turn a profit on the second item. Another they can do is throw advertising flyers in the package, so they make a little money just by doing that. There are all types of tricks to make it work or else they wouldn't be doing it.
And yes, they probably do not pack them as secure as they should be. They might have 10/100 orders arrive damaged and are completely okay with it because of the costs they save on supplies.
They often get their DVDs for pennies or maybe a couple of nickles.

·2 weeks agoClearly you shouldn't be doing Free Shipping. No one actually gets free shipping from any carrier. As we know you need to roll the costs of shipping into the product price. So either raise your product prices to accommodate shipping or charge shipping separately.
Why is this coming up for you now out of curiosity? You don't charge correctly for Media Mail on anything. Recently Media Mail went DOWN by 8 cents to the $4.39 we have today, it was $4.47. On some of your books you have $2-3 for shipping. You haven't been able to ship media mail that cheaply for decades. I do see that you have some correct and a few a little high.
I think you would be well served to review ALL your listings for shipping charges. I see some you have with free shipping for about $15 and I would estimate that your cost to actually ship the item will be more than half that. There are many other issues I see too.
I hope this helps. Good Luck.
