Selling DVD's or VHS is a No-No on Ebay
Here's what I was told by an Ebay Rep. on Selling DVD's or VHS or anything for that matter. Here's what they told me.
recorded copies, also known as pirated or unauthorized copies, are not allowed on our platform. This is because they infringe upon the intellectual property rights of the content creators and violate copyright laws.
While copyrighted material generally cannot be distributed or sold without permission, the concept of "fair use" allows limited use for criticism, commentary, scholarship, or teaching without infringing on the copyright. Whether this specific seller's use falls under fair use is unclear without details about the DVDs.
Movies, even on physical media like DVDs, are protected by copyright law. This means the copyright holder has exclusive rights to control how the movie is distributed and sold.
Seems Ebay has certain rules for certain people and not others. And reporting sellers that "violate" these rules, rarely does any good... So have fun and good luck to you and yours.

And he still doesn't get eBay. He is offering PayPal for items that exceed PayPal's maximum payment limit.

·1 year agoYour listings though. 😂🤣 You owe me .31c for me spitting my coffee out. The highest sold "black diamond" verified via terapeak is $1,000. You want $650,000. The highest sold VHS (of 3 years) GRADED SEALED was $16K. I've sold some $8-10K VHS before. I also throw away 99% of disney VHS.

·2 years agoYou are so far off. PIRATED copied are indeed illegal to sell anywhere. However a DVD or CD that is a legal manufacturer 's copy is perfectly legal to sell under "fair use doctrine". Your rant has no facts from copyright law because none exist to support your rant.

·2 years agoObviously you misunderstood the customer service rep and you are wasting your emotional energy on something that isn't true. Even if the customer service rep was completely wrong that happens all the time. If you spent any time on this forum you would know not to trust them or anything they say. There isn't going to be issues with people's having more than one copy of legitimate DVDs to sell.

·2 years agoI'm not sure I understand what the problem is either but there are plenty of rules on ebay, the choice is simple, abide by them or stop selling here. And yes more rules have been created over the years, it's what happens when laws are broken, shortcuts are taken, unethical business practices come to light, the list goes on... It is the real reason we can not have anything nice on this planet but that is the way it is, has always been that way, for as long as I can remember, it is what it is.
And yes piracy and counterfeiting is severely frowned upon here in the USA, most of the listings that freely partake in these activities appear to originate from countries where the law is apparently lax in these regards and without proper and close diplomatic ties and friendly government relations enforcement is also near impossible. How exactly ebay as a US-based company manages to get away with it I could not tell you, but I can tell you they have literally a team of lawyers working for them full time to address any and all concerns and lawsuits and governmental inquiries and such.
So from what I am seeing nobody is forcing you to sell here, nobody is holding you back from leaving, and it seems nobody is begging you to stay either. So if you came here to get permission to leave, I believe this is as good as it's going to get. Quickly, do not hesitate, take it all as an offer to leave immediately and all your struggle and suffering will be over, miracles will start to happen in your life and you may even see the second coming (granted that last is a bit doubtful but it is possible)... Or... Stay and continue trudging the path to happy destiny.

OP2 years agoI couldn't care less what others do or dont on here. Ebay contradicts its own rules. I don't like being told what I can and can't sell and what I'm allowed to do or not do. The ONLY thing Ebay has over other sites is the traffic flow and it's been around since the 80's. Buying on here is fine other than the ridiculous high prices some ask , but selling has become more of a pain in the ass that it's worth.

·2 years agoI still don't get what you are complaining about.......... you seem to agree (?) that homemade copies are not allowed on ebay. Are you interpreting what you were told to mean that No legit Dvds/cds, etc can be sold except thru authorized distributors?

OP2 years agoAccording to EBAY's rules..if you buy any DVD from any retail store and sell just one, that's fine. But if you were to buy more than one copy of said dvd and try to sell it, it goes against copyright laws and it will get pulled by the Ebay "Big Brother Spy Team". I personally couldnt care what Ebay says or does, but ebay has become more of a pain in the A$$ than it used to be.

·2 years agoMost likely what CSR was TRYING to convey, albeit ineptly, was that if someone is selling like an unending supply of a particular dvd/cd (I would think ESPECIALLY box sets, but that's just my opinion) that MIGHT raise red flags as to them being copies or bootlegs.

OP2 years agoYou got it. If you sell just one dvd and keep relisting it, Ebay will pull it. If you try to sell more than one copy such as 2 or more quantity, they'll pull it also. You're only allowed to sell just one copy of any dvd or vhs or whatever it is...if you do, then you're taking the chance of it being pulled by the Ebay Spy Patrol.

Hey @dhbookds! If you are asking about if a seller can list multiple quantity VHS or DVDs than the answer is yes to that.

·2 years agoYou think half the DVDs on eBay are counterfeit? That doesn't make any sense these DVDs are only worth a few dollars when they are real. I'm sure much less than 1% of DVDs on eBay are bootleg.

OP2 years agoThen according to you and Ebay, if I or any other person were to buy a Dinosaur Fossil whatever it is, and re-sell it, it's violating the finders right because you didn't get permission to sell it yourself...and you didn't get the Dinosaurs permission to sell their body parts. See how wondertarded that is? Ebay is a waste of time with stupid rules they can't make up their minds...they say one thing and then other say another thing. Ebay contradicts everything they say... and to me, that's just plain idiocy.

You do not get to burn and sell your own copies. You do not have publishing rights to do that.
You ARE free to sell your own new or used examples of the original commercial DVDs (or Blu-rays or LPs or 8-tracks or whatever).

OP2 years agoYou're wasting your time telling me about this. It used to be that one one gave a rat's ass what used to be sold and no one ever complained about it or said anything. Ebay used to be fun and you could find pretty much anything you wanted to Lp wise or dvd, vhs wise and things. Now it's become a royal pain in the ass to sell anything really...so why bother anymore? Just a matter of time before they pull any and all things "Fossil wise" too.

·2 years agoOkay - lets back up to Square 1 here and figure out what got you all honked off.
You clearly got slapped for something. What exactly was the item and why was it (apparently) removed? There is nothing unusual about listing a recording of any kind for sale here and the listing form lets you specify a quantity if you have more than one. You can send a Second Chance Offer for the same reasons.
So tell us what specifically happened in your case. You keep quoting the CS person but one of you appears to have not understood whatever the original problem was.

I think one of the challenges that eBay has is there are 1.7 BILLION items listed on their site and I believe that is worldwide. I think "gone are the days" where humans could actually review listings and most of it is done by computer now. So for DVDs in particular the other challenges would come when a Seller uses a Stock photo of the real item but ships a pirated copy when it sells. That is not something eBay could even determine if they reviewed the listing.
The situation you describe is not limited and happens in many categories.
