Selling Clothing Question
I buy some clothing to resell that is usually new but sometimes w/o tags. Some of the jackets end up having stains. When this is the case, would you advise using stain remover and washing the jacket or just selling it as is? I'm thinking especially when tags are attached. Is it worth detaching the tags and washing the jacket to get rid of the stains and then just include the tags in the listing though not attached? Thanks.

·1 year agoI don't sell clothing, But I don't think a stain would make a garment very appealing to anyone, If you do wash it or treat it you will not be able to sell it as new.

I think it depends on the level of the staining and how high end the jackets are.
If you think it's something that can be cleaned, I'd leave the tags on and list it as New With Defects. Then clearly point out the defects.
But I would probably only do this if I thought the item was high end enough that a buyer would be willing to buy it damaged/ stained. No one is going to want a stained Old Navy jacket that originally cost $25, but if you have a name brand that originally costs a lot, I bet you'll find buyers willing to get a slightly stained one at a nice discount.

·1 year agoWhen you wash a garment, it takes the sizing agent (fabric stabilizer) out. Even if washed and ironed, it will never have that new look again. (This, of course, doesn't apply to some fabrics like travel knits.)
If you do buy stained garments and wash them, I wouldn't list them as NWT, even if you have the tags, because they will no longer be new.

·1 year agoThat would be a 'no can do' if you are purchasing 'some' clothing for resale with stains (however minor to you), pass on anything with 'stains, holes, buttons missing etc'. Females/males don't want to deal with that, then you have the subjective of what may be ok with you may not be ok with them. All the Best.

OP1 year agoThanks. All helpful info. I also don't buy clothing with stains. These are higher end jackets so my hope would be that I could get at least a lower price out of it. Maybe it's worth removing tags, washing and hopefully removing stains and selling as used with an explanation (like article has been washed but barely used).

·1 year agoBefore washing I recommend using a wet wipe on the stain to see if a simple removal is possible.

Just my opinion.
I skip right over listings with stains.
If the stains don't come out depending on location of stain and size I would think carefully about listing at all.

·1 year agoI wouldn't sell anything with stains...... If you wash something, it cannot be considered new.......even with tags.... my opinion
