Selling and purchase shipping labels
I haven’t sold on eBay in years . So I have a multiple buyer and he wanted me to hold all items he’s buying until finished a which is in a 8 day period. I told him of course I would do that and before bidding he asked if I have discount on multiple purchase items and I told him yes. 5 items one shipping charge. Now ebay has this 2 day pay and shipping policy. He asked to send invoice for 1st- 4 items bought so I he paid i purchase ship label. Then he asked to invoice him for 1 item which I responded please wait for next item ends and I’ll send him an invoice. He insisted probable because of this 2 day pay and ship apparently policy. So I did he paid . Which I discounted him the ship cost . But the next item goes off in prob 36 hours later. Now I have to invoice him again take off shipping charge but it seems I have 2 purchase 2 more shipping labels. I assume if I don’t purchase the 2 extra labels I’ll get slapped by eBay for not sending out items which of course I will when buying is finished. So I guess I lose out. Anything I can do about that ? I do have a 100% record and I’m getting great feedback again for the items I’ve already sold. I don’t know people I’m retired now but I was always brought on the ole adage: If it ain’t broken don’t fix it.

·2 years agoJust tell him not to pay for anything until the 8th day or you will be dealing with too much manual effort on this and getting dinged by eBay for shipping late.

Did you review this buyer's profile, all feedback, and Google map?
If you're printing out shipping labels, you need to ship those items out for what they paid for.
I suggest shipping every order with signature required. Roughly $3.50 out of your pocket. It is worth it from all reading all the requests this buyer is asking for.

You can't "hold" items if the buyer has already paid, you are required to ship in your handling time to avoid other eBay sanctions. You can't combine items, or send an invoice if the buyer has already paid.
You use auctions. To make it even more complicated eBay has put preferences on your account with a default set to yes that requires buyers put up a payment source in order to make an offer or bid. All buyer IDs are now forced to do this in order to make an offer, and now they are working on enrolling all buyer IDs to do this in order to place a bid. eBay will not let them proceed to bid until they do, or you change the requirement for your account.
The result is that the buyer will automatically be charged and each auction will be billed with the full shipping price as soon as they end. You cannot sent a revised invoice since the products are already paid for. They are treaded as separate transactions.
So, in essence a buyer forced into the program who wins ten of your listings will be auto-billed $41.30 (4.13 x 10) for ten small jewelry items that normally could be combined in a parcel that is less than 6 oz. You pay the .30 cent non-refundable transaction fee ($3.00) on each one, instead of 30 cents for a combined order. You can still put all the items in one box and keep the extra shipping money, or go back through each listing and refund a small amount on each transaction.
Many buyers who are forced into this "auto-pay" program simply don't bid at all anymore. Though it is supposed to cut down on "non-payers" it truly discourages buyers that DO PAY as well.
So long as you know how to deal with a buyer that doesn't pay, and want to encourage multiple sales to the same buyer you can turn these blocks off. Buyers will be able to combine their orders across the amount of days you specify. Buyers will be able to use the payment method of their choice, and not be restricted to the ones that eBay dictates must be used for this new program.
If you do NOT wish to combine items for one invoice/shipping charge, buy all means keep them in place. You are allowed to limit your buyer pool any way you wish. Check yours here:

·2 years agoThe fact that he is paying separately for each item, doesn't mean you have to purchase a shipping label for each payment. If you still intend to ship everything together, which with separate payments I personally wouldn't, but if that is what you are going to do, all you have to do is purchase one label and then on the other items, go in manually on each item and click "item shipped". Then go in and manually enter the tracking number of the label you printed on those other items you combined.
Personally though, for me, individual payment means separate orders and multiple boxes. I think as a seller you are more protected that way under ebay seller protection.
I do tell my customers to wait for all items to end and to also wait for my combined invoice before paying or I won't be able to combine shipping.

·2 years agoIn what way are sellers more protected? I combine shipping all the time for customers who purchased separately. I use the same tracking number on all the items and I refund a suitable portion of the shipping charge. It's slightly annoying but I'm not sure why since it's no more work than sending an invoice. I don't understand how seller protections are reduced.

·2 years agoI believe, at least it is the way it use to be on ebay, individual payments, could not have duplicate tracking numbers.
You aren't blocked from entering a duplicate number, and I've done it on occasion myself. However, if a buyer ever claimed they didn't receive an item it could present an issue in an INR claim. Separate payments are treated by ebay as separate transactions, meaning in ebay's eyes they should have their own tracking numbers.

·2 years agoThe way I do it if someone asks about combining items to save on postage, I tell them that I do combine shipping and explain what they need to do.
I tell them that when the first item is purchased, do not pay. Wait for all the items you are interested in to end, at which time I will send a combined invoice for all the items the buyer has purchased with the combined shipping amount. One invoice for all items with the combined shipping for everything.
If they pay individually for each item, then there is no combined shipping and each item is shipped separately.

Personally, I would just let him pay for each and then sum up the postage at the end and do a refund. Remember, each order incures a 30 cent fee in addition to the postage.
When customers ask me to do this, I limit it to around 7 days - I simply don't have the bandwidth to manage this kind of thing for people, although these are usually good customers and I will make an effort if I can. I will "Mark As Shipped" the 1st ones that are just waiting so I don't get dinged, but leave the feedback outstanding as a reminder.
In my opinion, you have to watch this, or you will get people who think its ok to pay once a month - you might be ok with that. I can't have paid items sitting around for a month!

Why?
He can buy Fixed Price items any time he sees them.
It would be simpler to have him tell you all the items he wants to buy, then you give him a fair price on them including discounted shipping.
If he agrees, you put up a Fixed Price listing,after taking down the auctions, he buys, he puts them on his credit card, you get paid, you ship.
Cooperate, but simplify his life and yours.
What if you Hold those first purchases and he loses the auctions on all the others?

·2 years agoPretty sure taking down auctions early like that is against policy and asking for that to be done is against policy too.
I'm all for the advice given assuming it's not originally auction items. If they're auction items -- let him rack them up and pay all at once at the end or once half way and another package for 2nd half.
I do that often. I buy bulk (buy to resell). Sometimes I'm winning a single or couple auctions from a seller... sometimes I win a dozen auctions from a seller, I've won 20 in a single day, I've won 75 in about 8 day span. I usually work with the same sellers, so we already know each other well enough, so I have understandings and processes worked out with them.
One seller, I had him ship to me twice per week. They shipped mid week, and weekend. We did that because each shipment was 1-2 FILLED Flat Rate Boxes (Med/Large) so if we shipped once per week it would just be more boxes and no discount and would be pointless. Some sellers I have ship to me end of week, I buy Mon-Fri, pay and they ship after that.
As a buyer, I make an agreement that is fair and sensible for me (buyer) and them (seller). I'm not asking for arbitrary discounts from them, I just want to reduce shipping cost. If you're shipping me a flat rate box, I'm going to do my best to FILL that sucker so i get the most bang for my buck.

·2 years agoI'm sorry, I'm a bit confused reading your post ... maybe someone else will understand it better.
It sounds to me like you're saying you gave a combined shipping discount for one bulk order, and now you're discount shipping on individual single items shipped. Thats my interpreration
As far as I'm concerned, buyer can get a discount if you're shipping multiple items in one package. Beyond that, they are paying shipping. Each package I ship, whether its 1 item or 100, I'm collecting some shipping money.
You want 4 items shipped in one box? Cool. I can discount that respective to those 4 items. Once buyer pays, I'm on a clock to ship. I set that clock, it's my handling time. Only you set your handling time. It's a setting you set up on EBay and commit to ship within X days of payment.
If buyer pays for 4 items, I'm shipping those items. I'm shipping within my timeline.
Buyer wants a 5th item? Cool. You're paying shipping, no discount. Why? You're making me ship it by itself. You couldve included it with the other 4, but you didn't.
I'm not going to pay money out of my pocket for this. If I'm saving money on shipping, I'm willing to offer the buyer part od that savings as a discount. I'm not going to arbitrarily discount.
