Sellers--the upcoming USPS service change is July 9th
I've know about this upcoming change for quite some time, and saw the latest ebay announcement on June 21st, but until today I had not seen the information that we sellers must update our listings (especially 1st class pkg) with the new service name ourselves. The knowledgeable poster "wastingtime101" on the shipping board is making this known, but where is the clarity from ebay??? Don't they have a shipping dept that gets paid for this sort of thing?

·3 years agoMy stuff usually has 2 choices:
First Class
Priority
or
Parcel Select
Priority
All have weights and, if applicable to "oversize", dimensions
My understanding is ebay will change Parcel Select to Ground Advantage (lol, on the name)
But I will have to change lst class to Ground Advantage.......
does anyone know WHY they can't change the lst class to GA? Just curious.......
wastingtime101
·3 years agoNo @dhbookds .
As of right now, Parcel will be automatically updated if it's the only service offered in the listing.

Thanks for the update...........

·3 years agoPerhaps we'll be able to do bulk edits? I don't know. This is pretty confusing tbh. I don't think the changes (to the actual shipping) will be bad, but if we have to update every listing by hand, yikes...
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoSure hoping bulk edit will work!

·3 years agoSorry for dumb question but just want to clarify with the merge and new name I'm guessing FC is now ground on July 9th?
So is priority only air service then ?
ms.rodriguez*
·3 years agoFirst class has been ground for about a year or so thanks to the horrible Mr. NoJOY-at-all-for-anyone. I am not going to go crazy. Most of my items are first class so the letter is going to change. I doubt if it will take longer to arrive than before.
dqdistribution
·3 years agoAre you sure FC is ground already?
From my understanding they use either or, or use air to a main hub then ground from there.
The packages arrive too fast for me to think it's ground only, but could be wrong.
Unlike media mail and parcel select ground which both seem like the true ground service.
stainlessenginecovers
·3 years agoThat is not accurate.
I ship 7 out of 10 packages 1st Class and I have items going from NV to FL or NY get there in 2,3 days. Priority the same, sometimes longer, sometimes 1 day sooner.
It REALLY depends on WHERE it's going, how 'big' the hub is, city is, distribution center is etc.
I've had 1st Class get to NY in 2 days and Priority take 5 days to get to someone in Kansas (in the boonies).

·3 years agoI'm seriously doubting bulk edit will work, but I guess we'll find out when the time comes.
I still don't understand why this so called tech company can do a find and replace on PS to GA but not FCP to GA.

·3 years agoDon't forget that you will also need to change your product prices as well (as the total price will be affected), if you are one who cares about competitive pricing. 😕
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoPostage cost won't be affected much, if at all. The new prices for weights up to 15.999 ounces are the same; for weights above 1 pound, some of the new rates are a little higher, but others are a bit lower.

·3 years ago"we sellers must update our listings (especially 1st class pkg) with the new service name ourselves."
Yep, come September, I can just see the teachers asking their students, "And what did you do this summer?"
And little Johnny replies, "I listened to my old man swearing at eBay for most of July, 'cause Pops had to change by hand all his USPS First Class package listings to USPS Ground, 'cause a multi-billion dollar corporation was too incompetent to do it themselves."
And the truth isn't too far off: In addition to one of the worst financial months I've ever encountered on eBay (maybe going back to 2011, when I first started out), now eBay is forcing me to stop listing any new items from July 9 until August 9, until I hand-change all my USPS First Class Package listings to the new USPS Ground name.
And it's not like we can start doing that NOW -- nope, that option is STILL not available on our shipping screens, and apparently won't be until July 9. Is eBay deliberately trying to commit suicide?
A few years back, eBay forced many of us sellers to shut down shop, while we were forced to add new "item specifics" to many of our items. I can't remember exactly how many items I had to 'refine;" but I seem to recall that was nearly 1300. That took a couple weeks, and absolutely NOTHING new was added during that time.
So, here comes July, a month when many people plan to take summer vacations -- me included.
But eBay has other plans for me -- a terminology change for which eBay is totally incapable of doing itself.
Thanks again, eBay, for yet another debacle.

·3 years agoAnd you wont see this because you do not have to change anything. Someone gave you the wrong story.
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoThey have to change all of their listings that offer First Class package shipping. From the most recent edition of today's Announcement: "If you ship with First Class Package, you will need to update listings to USPS Ground Advantage over the next 30 days. Business policies will also need to be updated. "

·3 years agoSo, how do we change all of our first class listings? I just tried and there is no option for Ground Advantage.
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoIt will be available after midnight on July 9.

·3 years agoI'm still trying to understand this so please bear with me. So, if the new option is not available until July 9, I will have to change all of my first class items to usps ground? or select ground? Thx
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoThe name of the new service is Ground Advantage. It is a merger of the services currently known as First Class package, Retail Ground, and Parcel Select Ground.
sin-n-dex
·3 years agoOK, does that mean I can keep listing the 3000 things I have (I'll have to update SixBit when the change hits though...) and not worry about changing the 11K in things already listed?

·3 years agoYou are using First Class (flat rate), NOT First Class Package so there is no change for you at all.
As far as I can tell, anyone using Flat Rate shipping doesn't have to do much if anything, for those that use Calculated shipping would need to make changes to their business policies.
You are using SixBit, if you are using the SixBit Shipping Presets vs eBay Business Policies it will be even easier to make any changes that you need to do.
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoBut how long do you think eBay will leave "Standard Shipping (USPS First Class®)" in the shipping section of a listing, after that service evaporates? And what will buyers think when their item arrives via a different service with "Ground" in the name?
slippinjimmy
·3 years agoUSPS First Class is not changing, only First Class Package is being changed to Ground Advantage
wastingtime101
·3 years agoYes and the poster you were responding to said she uses 2 services:
1. ESE which doesn't have to change and
2. FCPackage which does have to change

·3 years agoI guess us sellers have nothing else better to do in life but revise, revise, and revise between eBay & USPS constant updates.
The United States Postal Service is consolidating its ground shipping options by combining USPS Retail Ground®, First-Class-Package®, and Parcel Select Ground® into a single service: USPS Ground Advantage™.
Here’s what to expect on eBay beginning July 9th:
Printing labels on eBay
Updating your listings on eBay
On July 9 USPS is updating rates for some services, please see our previous announcement.
For more details on USPS Ground Advantage and FAQs, visit our Seller Center.
As always, thank you for selling on eBay.
dirk12955
·3 years agoAm I reading this correctly? All 3300 of my listings spread over 3 selling accounts
specify USPS 1st class shipping.
I use USPS for 100% of my sales. Never a deviation from that.
I'm reading that I really don't need to do anything at all to my listings. I don't need to revise? The ebay label
system will automatically switch us over to the new terminology. "Ground advantage"
And if I'm mailing with stamps, everything is the same as before.
And in the end, The buyers won't know the difference.
slippinjimmy
·3 years agoI looked at a couple of your listings, they all use generic service names and are NOT Calculated.
I also use generic service names and no calculated. We do not need to do ANYTHING to adjust to the new USPS terminology.

@slippinjimmy, @wastingtime101, @nobody*s_perfect... It takes a whole village, so I'm reaching out to you all.
The meat of my listings say 'Shipping: US $7.50 Standard Shipping' and 'US $10.00 Expedited Shipping'. When you tap on 'See details', or open the 'Shipping and handling' tab, the buyer sees 'Standard Shipping (USPS First Class®)' and 'Expedited Shipping (USPS Priority Mail®)', respectively.
Are these the 'generic' FC ones that get a pass, or should I edit them to 'USPS Ground Advantage'? A bit confused...
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoYou have to change the ones that offer First Class shipping, which will no longer exist.
sin-n-dex
·3 years ago@slippinjimmy @dirk12955
Whoa guys fill me in... I almost had a stroke. I've got over 11K in listings.
Mine are not calculated. There are around 7000 postcards, stamps and banknotes that are going ESE (I think lots say first class, I know we can't downgrade to Media mail, but FC and ESE are both considered the same tier of standard service, so I never worried about this).
There are around 4000 listings in all sorts of other things like coins and tokens, and all of them are listed for FC postage with a fixed rate between 4.10 and 5.15.
Is there anything I need to be doing?
C.
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoEverything that says "First Class package" has to be changed because that service will no longer exist. If you are using shipping policies, it will not be much work.

·3 years agoI did a cut and paste from my seller hub under selling announcements (June 27th) and did a bold lettering on what really stuck out to me.
Just another if, and, or but announcement to me that we have to figure out.
there looks to be two announcements. June 22 and on the 27th.
I recommend everyone read both announcements.
wastingtime101
·3 years agoWell you may want to revise your listings for a different reason @dirk12955 .
I don't think you're going to ship these $4.99 stamps with Priority Mail service (item 224623758922) even though your listing advertises "Expedited" shipping.
If you're mailing First Class your listing should specify "Standard" not "Expedited" so you're not hit with a SNAD for downgrading the service against eBay policy.
I only looked at the one listing, but if you have others like that you can use the bulk edit tool to fix them pretty quickly.
If you have any listings that specify First Class Package instead of a generic non-specific service (like Standard or Expedited) then you would need to update them all to Ground Advantage when the change hits.

·3 years agoWhy on EARTH?
"Listings with Parcel Select Ground will automatically be updated"
yet
"Sellers will need to change First Class Parcel over the next 30 days"???
what???
ebay can auto change PS to GA but NOT FCP?
eta: and now I get "that announcement has been permanently deleted?"
wastingtime101
·3 years agoRead this post @toomuchstuffagain35 because not all Parcel Select will be automatically updated. As of right now, Parcel will only be automatically updated if it's the only service offered in the listing.
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Shipping/USPS-to-replace-First-Class-Package-Retail-Ground-Parcel-Select/m-p/33836377#M450602
And yeah, they're ignoring First Class and Retail Ground so sellers have to update those manually. In other words, the bulk of listings and biz policies will be a manual update by sellers.
eBay is giving sellers 30 days to make the changes.
If you use calc shipping and package weighs over a pound currently offering Parcel Select it could be impacted by price changes so you'll want to prioritize those updates over the FC under a pound packages. Packages under a pound will not see price changes this go 'round.
eBay deleted the original announcement and reposted it. Then they deleted the repost. I am guessing they're working on making it more clear after some of the FB received in the thread linked above?
toomuchstuffagain35
·3 years agoThey Do realise there's a H-LL of a lot more listings using FCP than PS right? Especially after THEY took PS away from the majority of sellers?
Why do the sellers always get the shaft and have to do the "fixing"?
wastingtime101
·3 years agoThey took away that TRS Parcel Select restriction a while ago. I think it lasted maybe a year before they reverted.
But yeah, I'm surprised they're leaving FC to be 100% manually updated by sellers.
toomuchstuffagain35
·3 years agoTbh, I'm not surprised at all.
They've shown time after time that a seller's time & effort means nothing to them.

·3 years agoThis is the type of stuff that makes me want to quit ebay forever and donate all of inventory. I never made enough to warrant taxes. Plus ebay has made my life difficult by taking away shipping options by default. I now need to put specific dimensions in. I have sent out all my orders, faster, and packed better than I ever have in my 15 years on here. Yet I have more complaints than ever. I had a buyer make blatantly false and libelous claims about me, left me false negative feedback, and ebay has done nothing about it. And I've sold 4 things this entire, and I netted a whole $15. This is where after 15 years, it time to throw in the towel. I am so defeated. I have no money. No way to support myself. Nobody is buying what I'm selling. Those that do, complain, and slander me. It's over.
dubsteesllc
·3 years agoI am incredibly sorry that you feel this way. Ebay has continually failed to support the Sellers, which Ebay would not have a business without them. I'm incredibly disappointed too.
I wish they would simply dissolve then disburse their assets to us, the Sellers, their lifeblood.
