Sellers seeing wrong reasons used for...
Returns. See attached. Anyone else see this??
Some background;
This is a huge problem for me because this has happened now 3 times. The reason of 'just didn't like item' is not even a choice.
I block those from any further purchases that use the 'just didn't like' because I build to order and don't like to waste my time (and now with Free Returns...money).
If it's 'just a mistake', like the one attached in the picture 'was' per the buyer (yes, I ask and don't block so I can see their answer, another FUN problem that the 'blocked buyer' also has 'blocked communication')

·6 months agoI've been selling on eBay since 1997. Over the years I have found that the most selected "Reason for Return" is always the one at the top of the pull down menu. It doesn't matter what eBay puts there (they have rotated items on the list over the years.) Many buyers will just click on the first line instead of looking at other choices. They don't care, they just want to return the item.

OP6 months agoWhich, if true, were 'bought by mistake'.
@iamalwaysright @christworks @lacemaker3 @meme6253 @ethylsgarage the biggest issue is that ebay is CHANGING what a buyer is saying is the 'reason', at least per a handful of buyers returning that I have asked and they ALL said the same thing
"I didn't say that, I used the 'bought by mistake'"
I believe I know this because 3 people that bought things that they should've bought 'that' and later once return is paid, do buy 'that' a week later. All 3.
Also, I sell in P&A so everything is 'seller pays returns' anyway.
Not much reason to use another reason, but even MORE important- it's showing me a reason that is NOT even available for a buyer to use.

·6 months agoThat type of error is what I would consider "normal" for eBay. The system glitches so often I don't waste any time or effort thinking about it. As long as I get the item back to sell to someone else it's not worth caring about.

OP6 months ago@ethylsgarage No doubt; but since this has $$ implications for ebay and me (Buyers return for that reason and I block and since I'm the only one on Planet Earth making/selling many of my items- that means $0) you would think it would get a little more attention.

·6 months agoNever assume that eBay cares about anyone but the stockholders.

·6 months agoI had a "just didn't like it" on a sunvisor return last month.
I also recently had a "ordered by mistake," which I have only seen as a reason when someone cancels.

OP6 months ago@christworks Thanks for the info; and yes, who knows what is really going on. Per the rep on FB, there is a 'ticket' for, and a 'known' problem of the 'reason being changed' when a buyer chooses 'this' but instead- 'that' is shown to the seller.
I've always heard the 'ticket' thing coming from the 3rd Party 'Phone' reps, but now maybe they've taken over the FB job as well??

·6 months agoDun dun duuuuuun! That would totally blow. Did this FB guy also thank you for being a seller for x amount of years and say your call is very important to them?
stainlessenginecovers
OP6 months ago@iamalwaysright No, thankfully... and I only hope it was actually true (ticket opened etc.)

·6 months ago@stainlessenginecovers, this is just a guess so I may be way off base ...
The return on the left, was for a purchase made Feb 12, so 6 days ago. The listing has 30 day returns, buyer pays. So it is still within the return policy time interval.
Is the one on the right within the seller's return policy time interval? or outside it?
Maybe they give more reasons to choose from if it is within the return policy time interval.
I just looked at my most recent purchase, the only one within the last 30 days, and it has 14 days returns, buyer pays. So that one is outside the seller's return policy time interval, but within eBay's 30 day MBG. It doesn't have the "Just didn't like it" reason; it has the same reasons you show on the right.
(I backed out then, because I like the book and I'm keeping it.)

OP6 months ago@lacemaker3 Both are within the 30 days; the one buyer did to me (shown on left) and something I bought and received, that allows returns, just a week ago (shown on right); both listed on 'ebaymotors'; but again, items I bought, that allows 30 day returns received the past 2-3 weeks, show the exact same 'choices' for me to choose from (as shown on the right).

·6 months ago@stainlessenginecovers I also get this one from time to time and I don't see that as an option on your pulldown screen shot.
I don't have the proof right now, but I recalled a few times that the reason is different when I clicked on the "Return Details" on the bottom of this page and a pop page comes up. What does it show when you click on yours?
stainlessenginecovers
OP6 months ago@iamalwaysright yes, that's also a 'different one', which I've also seen. I like to message the buyer and ask 'what the 'mistake' was and it's usually legit enough that I don't block them, and then they either buy again (wanted to use different CC) or bought the right item (purchased for Manual Trans when I need Auto) etc.
What it showed on the 10 I checked of my own recent purchases, from all different categories, is the exact same as my picture.
iamalwaysright
·6 months agoI'm assuming the pulldown menu shot you have is not linked to the return screen shot on the left, correct?
Are they from at least the same item category? I have no buyer experience here, but could the choices be different depending on which category the listing is in? Also I would think that "changed my mind" is pretty much the same as "just didn't like it". I wonder if choosing that will result in the return reason shown to the seller.

OP6 months ago@iamalwaysright
1.) that's what the FB Rep started to tell me until I checked 10 of my recent purchases, from Motorcycle parts to checkbook register to labels to etc. and EVERY 1 of the 10 when I clicked 'return' had the SAME options that I show
2.) You are correct, since the 2 are from 'what I got from the buyer' and a part I bought from the SAME category.
@meme6253 no, it's not just 'auto parts'- as stated, 10 different purchases I made, 1 from Auto, 2 from Motorcycle and 7 from other completely different random stuff- ALL showed the exact same 'reasons'

OP6 months ago'the sound of crickets'
I guess nobody has noticed this, but just an FYI:
per rep on FB (hopefully we can still believe) there is a ticket as this has been an ongoing error that 'eventually' they will fix.
meme6253
·6 months agoI have not seen anything like this, Could it possibly be something to do with auto parts only?
