·4 months agoMedicines and supplemented foods such as infant formulas have expiry dates. Most other foods have “use by,” “sell by,” or “best before” dates.
“Best before” does not necessarily mean “awful after.” For shelf-stable items such as canned fruit, that date just indicates that the quality of the food item will slowly deteriorate sometime after that date, such as a loss of colour or texture. It’s not necessarily an indication that the food item will suddenly become toxic the day after that date.

And Best Before can also be the "pull by" date when the manufacturer wants to replace the batch.

·4 months agoI know that you are more limited in what you can find in Hawaii - but is eBay really the best place to buy stuff you ingest? Thinking maybe the expiration date is in the future a couple of years but some guy has been storing it in his hot garage down south for the past six months.

·4 months agoYou could also check their feedback. I've noticed that buyers who receive expired (or near-death) items are frequently honked-off enough about it to mention it in the seller's feedback.

Is there a required field for expiration date?
If not, there should be.

·4 months agoI don't think eBay requires it, I just checked half a dozen items of packaged food, none of them stated anything about Best Before dates, none of them had an Item Specific for that.
Reading the Food Policy, it only says you can't sell expired items.
I agree with you that there should be a required field where the seller must enter something even if it's "does not apply" (same as they have for UPC/ISBN codes).
The OTC drug/supplement Policy does have required IS for expiry dates.
