Ebay says they charge 13% for sportscards yet I got charged almost 20% Total scam and it's not about the money.
they said I would get a $50 giftcard for my 1st item sold also a lie.
If my item gets lost in the mail I lose the money, total scam.
I took down all my listings I will NEVER use e-bay again to buy or sell! This company operates below board...

·7 months agoI look at the potential selling price, and the estimated sales tax, multiply by .13, add 40 cents, and that is the estimated eBay fee I will pay. I have free shipping so then I add in the estimated shipping cost.
eBay charges their~ 13% on the sales tax and shipping too, if the buyer pays for shipping.
I then add in my cost for the item and packaging and the difference is potential profit. If that is too low then I raise the price, even if others are selling for less, let them loose money until they leave.
If the Post Office raises prices by 7.5 % I raise mine by 10% to 15%. I raise them more before holidays just like the PO and other retailers do.

Initially I got an email from ebay saying I was eligible for the $50.00 coupon if I sold an item under the listed terms. Once it sold, I got another email saying that the coupon was on the way. Sometime during the week following the sale, the coupon just appeared in my "My Ebay" section, not as a message in my inbox, but just as a banner at the top of the page (viewed on desktop, unsure if it would show up in the mobile app). It was dismissable as with any other banner and could have been accidentally dismissed, which is odd because it was the only notification I had for the code and it wasn't listed anywhere else.
I was able to use the code on a purchase, though, and it worked fine.

Actually, everything eBay does is above board and is right there for everyone to read. You apparently didn't ever take the time to do it. I'm guessing you jumped right into selling without reading anything about HOW to sell, the fees involved, the Money Back Guarantee, or anything about it. Which is too bad because by not understanding eBay's rules and policies and special promotion offers, this caused you some problems. You then called eBay a scammer and liar and declared you are NEVER going to buy or sell on eBay again.
If you go to other venues to sell, you will find the same kinds of problems. Just be sure to read their rules and policies before jumping in their deep end of the pool.

We charge one final value fee when your item sells, and you don't have to worry about third-party payment processing fees. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus a per order fee. For orders $10.00 or less the per order fee is $0.30, for orders over $10.00 the per order fee is $0.40.
The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, any shipping costs collected from the buyer (some exceptions apply), sales tax , and any other applicable fees.

·7 months agoThat 13% commission applies to the cost of the item, the shipping charges and the sales tax. Guess you saw 13% and stopped reading.
If you opted into promotion, that costs extra.
If your item gets lost in the mail. depending on how you chose to ship, it may be covered by insurance.
You might be happier selling out of the trunk of your car, or on a table on the sidewalk.

·7 months agoI may be wrong but I think that gift card offer was if you agree to use promoted listing. If you did that then you'll see higher fees that what you thought. You have to pay extra to promote. That would explain where you are seeing the extra at.
