Seller shipped item, buyer can’t receive deliveries by usps and now wants full refund
Hi! I sold an item, shipped it out with usps domestically in US, tracking shows the package was delivered. The order shows buyer selected shipoing via USPS. However, the buyer contacted me on the delivery date & said it wasn’t delivered and he cannot receive packages by USPS. A few days later, item was returned to me. The buyer has opened a dispute.
I’ve offered a refund on the item, minus the shipping cost. However, because a dispute is open, I cannot actually do a partial refund. I asked the buyer to close it so I can resolve and they aren’t responding now.
What happens now? The dispute is unresolved. I provided the tracking in the dispute. I responded to the sellers last message. The only other option is a full refund. But I shouldn’t have to pay for the shipping when the buyer ordered this knowing it was coming USPS and they knew it wouldn’t get delivered to them. The shipping was paid out of seller’s funds. is this a scam somehow? What happens if the dispute isn’t resolved? What can I do as a seller? I would like to resolve this by doing a partial refund for the item (minus the shipping costs). Help please!

·9 months ago@erwisno0 : Just curious: what does the tracking say about why the package was turned around and sent back?

·9 months agoDid you Google the address? Just wondering why, the buyer claims they can't receive USPS.
If you received the item back with no damage / issues, I would just refund and add them to your buyer block list.
I'm guessing you ship for free since your worried about deducting the shipping cost from the refund. I would add it to all your listings.

·9 months agoI just looked again at your listings. You do charge shipping.
Why would you want to deduct shipping cost from the refund? The buyer paid for it.

·9 months agoBecause the seller has PAID for the shipping. Not the seller's fault the buyer can't receive usps deliveries. They're not entitled to get their original shipping paid back when refunded.

Wait for the case to close in your favor.

No matter what eBay claims, buyers do not get to choose shipping. unless an alternative shipping is offered, whatever the seller chooses for the listing is what the the buyer uses for shipping. If in this case the buyer cannot receive mail by the USPS, probably blacklisted for hard to get to location or dog on premises, the buyer should have asked for the item to be shipped by a shipping company that delivers to their address. Wait for eBay to close out the case. It could go either way. If eBay rules in your favor, you can then refund the buyer.

·9 months agoHi, tracking shows the item was shipped and delievered via USPS, which the buyer selected at checkout. On the delivery date the buyer messaged saying they can’t recieve USPS packages, and a few days later the item was returned back to me. I offered to refund the item price minus shipping, but since a dispute is open I’m unable to do a partial refund unless the buyer closes it, and they are no longer responding. Shipping was paid from my funds and the buyer was aware USPS was being used, so I don’t believe I should be responsible for that cost. All tracking and details have been provided in the dispute and I’m waiting for it to be reviewed and resolved accordinly.

My message to the OP would be this: There's tracking proving delivery per your original message. If that buyer opens an item not received case with eBay (which would be the correct action per eBay), all the seller has to do is insert that tracking # in the INR claim.
Just curious: wonder why a resident of the US would be unable to receive packages delivered by the USPS. If that is indeed the case.

·9 months agoHere's what Google says:
"A USPS package can't be delivered due to incomplete/incorrect addresses (missing apt/suite, wrong ZIP), recipient issues (moved, unknown, deceased, refuses), physical access problems (blocked mailbox, dog, gated community), or insufficient postage, leading to an Undeliverable As Addressed (UAA) status, forcing it back to the sender. ·9 months agoThank you for the info. That's what I figured. Shouldn't the buyer have been aware of at least some of those issues before making a purchase?

·9 months agoI ran into this situation a few years ago. I shipped a book via USPS to a customer in a small town in CA. A couple days after shipment she contacted me and told me she had messed up her address and provided her physical address instead of her PO box. In her town there is no home delivery and everybody has a PO Box. She said often they will hold the package for her but sometimes they will return the package. That is what happened in this instance, I received the book back.

·9 months agoIf this is an eBay Item Not Received (INR) claim:
Wait 3 days. An option to "ask eBay to step in" will appear. Click on that, choose the reason shipped with tracking, then in the comments write something like:
USPS attempted delivery and returned to sender due to invalid buyer address.
eBay will close out the INR in your favor. After the INR is closed you can go to the transaction, select "send refund," and send a partial refund for item cost less shipping / non-refundable fees.
But you used the word "dispute" so I'm not sure if this is an eBay INR or if the buyer filed a payment dispute. Can you clarify? If it's a payment dispute the process is different. I'm assuming this is an INR based on other things you said, but just want to be clear because the word "dispute" is specific to a payment dispute.
