    seller protection policy

    I have a package that I shipped, with confirmed tracking from the post office (USPS), which has been "in transit" since Feb 2021. the buyer opened an "item not received" case. I have been told by ebay customer service that I will be responsible for refunding the buyers money if the package is never delivered. WOW.  What happened to Seller Protection? I am appalled, did they change the seller protection policy ?? I think this is in no way fair or correct! anyone with answers please!!!!!

    @y_ski

    Yep... sellers are charged with delivering  to their buyers. A non-delivery wouldn't be good, and if the package hasn't been delivered by just before  the case times out... you need to initiate the refund, if only to save your Seller Metrics.

    If the item shakes loose and you get the 'Delivered' scan, then you'll win the INR case.

    For what it's worth, if a refund is initiated, and the package arrives later... 1) maybe the buyer will still want it and will pay you. If they don't want it anymore, 2) maybe the buyer will mark it 'RTS' and at least you'll get it back. Don't be bashful... ask it of the buyer. I find that if something sells once, it will again. Get your item back to resell. Good luck.

    Not only does eBay no longer protect their Top Rated Sellers in this instance under the seller Protection Policy, they also keep the transaction fees associated with the order.  In other words when a carrier fails to deliver, the Seller loses and eBay wins.

    Sellers receive protections when certain conditions apply. When issuing a refund on a return or case if the seller initiated the refund the seller gets fvf credit, but if you let eBay refund for you, no you don’t get fvf credit. All sellers should know that.

    If you ship within your handling time and the item is delivered late, you don’t get a defect, if you are shipping after your handling time, then yes, you get a defect.
