Seller payment rules
I received a full price offer for my china. The proposed buyer sent me an email asking to deposit their payment directly into my paypal account. They (the buyers) want the email address to my account. I thought there is a third party involved which accepts funds and disperses items being sold?

The buyer can pay you thru the Ebay platform. All the accepted payment options are right there. These people are trying to scam you. They'll send you a fake notice of payment and you'll loose both the money and your China.
You really should do some more reading about selling here. Good job that you were skeptical about this person. Make sure you block them too.
As a new seller, you should not be using the auction style listing unless your item is a rare or discontinued item. Use a buy it now fixed price with immediate payment required checked off and NO best offers. That way when you sell something, you'll get paid.

Buyers pay directly through eBay. They can pay with Paypal, debit or credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and they do this through eBay. They do not need any of your information to pay. If the buyer is asking for your Paypal or other personal information, they are a scammer.
Scammers will try to get you to take the sale off of eBay, or get your personal information so they can send you a fake payment email, hoping you are too new and naive to verify that you have actually been paid. No LEGITIMATE buyer needs that information.
Here are some red flags to watch out for.
1. Buyer asks for your email address, Paypal address or other personal/banking information
2. Buyer sends you a phone number to text/call him/her
3. Buyer asks you to buy gift cards to go with the order
4. Buyer asks you to send the item to a different address after paying
5. Buyer wants you to send the item overnight/express and will pay you a lot extra to do this
6. Buyers says that they cannot pay through the eBay website and sends you a link to click on so that the payment will go through
7. Buyer offers more for your item than the price you have it listed for
If ANY of the above happen, do not contact the buyer or respond to any messages from them. Block them here: https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock This will prevent them from buying from you.
If they actually purchased, after four full days do an unpaid item cancellation. You can do that here: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/cancelling-transaction?id=4136 . The non-payment cancel option will appear after 96 hours + one minute after the sale exactly.
Also, if they purchased by buy it now, if you accepted an offer or if they won an auction, report the buyer: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/resolving-buyer-issues/reporting-issue-buyer?id=4084 Use the reason "asking to complete a sale off eBay".

·3 years agoIn addition to the suggestions made by @nobody*s_perfect , turn your pictures so they are facing the proper way (both for the china and the sketches). Also, take a close up picture of the pattern. I am confused on the sketches-do you get one sketch or all the sketches?

·3 years agoAs others mentioned this is a SCAM. Let it ride out the 4 days and when the buyer has not paid you simply close the transaction for failure to pay. @shag182 gave some excellent advice sell this locally. Even if this has be a legitimate deal what are the odds this is going to arrive with all the pieces in-tact given you are shipping USPS priority mail?
It may be a good thing the sale fell through I looked at your listing and the item is in CA and the shipping cost to me in VA would only have been $17.05. I doubt the actual shipping would have been that cheap if you packaged it correctly. You also specified seller does not accept returns on the listing you need to read the MBG and understand that that does NOT translate to no refunds for the buyer.

This sale won't pan out. And when 96 hours have passed without you receiving payment, Cancel the order, citing 'Buyer didn't pay'. You'll be free to relist and this scammer will earn an Unpaid Item strike... a couple of those and the scammer won't be able to bother sellers.
Do not send invoices, as eBay has sent a payment reminder and every one you send resets the 96-hour clock.

As an aside: when you don't get paid, should you choose to relist that set, you should revisit the "shipping" that you have selected. Something is amiss, as that set will not ship coast - to - coast for $17.05 by USPS Priority mail.

·3 years agoGood catch. The listing is set up with calculated shipping for a 2-pound package. You probably couldn't ship even one piece for that weight. Probably eBay suggested that weight because the listing is set up in the "Plates" category rather than the "Dinner sets" category.
In addition to correcting the category and shipping cost, the listing could be improved by (1) listing which exact 59 pieces are included (x dinner plates, y salad plates, z cups etc.), (2) naming the pattern; and (3) having at least one picture that's in focus. And add a 'Local pickup" option.

As an aside I doubt very much that particular pattern is a big seller at any rate.

·3 years agoits is definitely a scam. all you can do is wait the required number of days and then cancel the sale. Scammers pry on new sellers or those with only a few sales. But I have been szelling for 25 years and occasionally get these buyers yet.

·3 years agoNEW seller and you listed this $2k china set item? NO selling Feedbacks, history. What can go sideways? EVERYTHING!!! This buyer is trying to take that china set off your hands for FREE, as in FREE is a very good price for SCAMMERS. My advice, sell locally.

·3 years agoThey can pay you with paypal WITHOUT your paypal address.
Simply have the checkout and select "paypal" as their payment option.
DO NOT give them your paypal or email address.

·3 years agoYes - the payment handler for Ebay is Adyen. That process is totally seamless - all the buyer needs to do is hit the Pay button that they can see in the listing. They are feeding you a line of nonsense in order to get your email address. They then send you fake payment notifications that Ebay cannot see and you will be instructed to ship the items before seeing payment in your Paypal account - which will never happen.
When a REAL Ebay buyer pays you then Ebay will send you a notification in your account that it has been paid for and its time to ship. Your Paypal account is not involved with receiving their payment. That goes to Ebay and then the funds after fees are deducted will be sent from Ebay to your checking account.

as @nobody*s_perfect stated...it is most likely a scam...and against ebay rules regarding a sale....
as 'tempting' as it is....run....don't walk.....away from this "illusion" of a deal
think about it...what "benefit" to the buyer is it to do a direct deposit?

Next they'll want you to buy some gift cards and include them in the deal. Of course, promising to pay you for them. You give them the numbers off of the cards and BAM your money is gone and untraceable.

·3 years agoThe buyer is trying to scam you. Explain to them that you cannot accept a PayPal payment directly. If you give them your PayPal info, they will send you a fake email that seems to be from PayPal, telling you that you have been paid.
