Seller Limits
As a seller, I canceled 7 items out of 57 items (12%) in one year due to being out of stock and ebay put me in below standard status. When I asked about it in a chat session, I was told that if my performance improved that I would be given more allowance to sell additional items, and then I was told as long as my performance improved then my account wouldn't be closed. I told the rep. that ebay is treating their customers like children by offering more allowance and not punishing them as long as they improve.
Some of my listings were moved to unsold status because of my below standard rating, so I told the rep. that ebay is making it more difficult to get back above standard by decreasing the number of items I can sell (less items to sell = less opportunity to improve).
All of my listings had 100% tracking but they don't offset the positives against the negatives, which is plain wrong. Additionally, I have a 100% feedback rating.
Ebay standards are higher than brick and mortar stores as there's been more than 12% of times when a store has been out of stock of something I wanted to buy.
Any similar experiences?

When you go to a brick and mortar store and they are out of stock, the shelf is empty.
They do not (a) tell you the item is in stock, (b) show a quantity available that is over 0, and (c) let you go all the way through checkout and pay for the item before telling you they do not have it.
eBay's guidelines are published for all to see in several places. It appears that you will need to boost your transaction count to 350 without any further defects before you are moved out of Below Standard. ( 2% of 350 = 7 )

Well, yes they actually do, but just not at a "one for one" basis. As you see it is on a %age.
If it were "one for one", 50% of the customers could be disappointed which is not a good business model.
Batting 500 in baseball is very good. Batting 500 selling on eBay would be.............................. grounds for being sent to the "minors" (below standard)

two points for not lying and choosing another reason that blames the buyer

Actually, no............most people we see here are suspended for many less out of stocks...not so long ago, you would have been permanently banned.....

·3 years agoFirst, the eBay reps have no access, influence, or authority when it comes to Below Standard status or seller limits.
Second, you are assuming that if you are Below Standard that eBay wants you to improve. But it seems pretty clear by the way the implement this that they really just want you to leave.
IMHO a 12% defect rate is a death sentence.

·3 years agoSo anyone with 100 positive transaction should be allowed to have 100 negative transactions?
They should offset each other?

You WANTED to buy it from a B&M store but could not because they told you they were out of stock before you gave them your money..
Conversely, your buyer actually bought it and sent you the money only to be disappointed after the fact because you didn't tell them it was out of stock until after they bought it and presumably waited a period of time for something they believed was on the way.

·3 years agoMake sure you have all the items that are listed. You should not be out of stock ever and have to cancel sales. This is why your account is falling to below standard. You need a better inventory system. You need to make sure you have all the active items in your stock, do take the time and check there are no more missing items. You'll need to figure out why you were out of stock and put steps in place to make sure it don't happen again. Once you fix your stock you need to do everything perfectly. Cancelling orders is a big no no on ebay. Sellers need to strive above and beyond to be top rated.

You really need a better inventory control system.

·3 years agoWow, that's a lot. Why are you listing things for sale that you don't have?
eBay's policy about out of stock defects is very strict. It's outlined in the help pages here:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/seller-levels-performance-standards/seller-levels-performance-standards?id=4080#section4
I'm surprised your account hasn't been shut down already. eBay reduced your listing limits for being Below Standard and yes, that makes it harder to sell more and climb out of the Below Standard hole.
If your defect rate was much lower I'd say you have a chance at account recovery, but with a 12% defect rate I think your time before a permanent suspension is limited.

·3 years agoFrom what I have read on this forum, you should consider yourself lucky that you have not been permanently restricted from selling.
It seems that sellers with a lower OOS cancellation rate than yours have banned with no recourse for appeal.
