Seller Initiated Offers Tech Post
🤔I find it interesting that eBay felt that something needed to be said about this. I wonder if it is due to a recent glitch? I say that because for the second time in weeks, I started getting counter offers for SIO's I made. Initially I thought this maybe something new, until I checked my SIO settings, only to see both the "Automatic" offers and "Accept Counter Offers" toggles switched ON. Either I'm inadvertently turning both of those switches on when using the app, or it's their way of getting ahead of the complaints.

Those paying attention have seen eBay is following through. We have access to phase one. Well, I do - hopefully everybody else does, too.
In Seller Hub go to Marketing > Offers
As of right now the page only shows automated offers, even though there is a filter on the right for non-automated offers. Clearly this is in early stages. I'm looking forward to eBay adding non-automated offers to this management tool.

Hey @wastingtime101 we have received word that we are continually improving this feature, and all active offers will be available as we update!

·1 year agoeBay gave more info on this at today's Seller Check In.
Watch the video when released (eBay should post it on the Announcements page within the week) if you want to see screenshots of what these changes will look like and get the full report, but highlights included:
The expansion to include all offers on dashboard, not just automated, is currently anticipated for June.
There will eventually be more controls for automated offers including the ability to set duration for automation: 1 week to 1 year or custom duration.

·1 year agoThank you @ittybitnot for drawing my attn to this. I am copying a post I put elsewhere:
I have insight into this, but no answers as to how to fix it. I have had this problem for a long time, but only about once a month. In the last 2 weeks, it's suddenly happened 5 times.
So first off, when you send an SIO, there are 2 slider bars at the bottom of the SIO page. One for 'Send Automated Offer', the other for 'Allow Counteroffers'. Your choice should be sticky & in my experience IS sticky for long periods of time, until it inexplicably changes.
Now this is IMPORTANT, depending on a variety of factors, you may not even see those 2 options unless you scroll down, so you may not even know they're there. Some people see both options all on 1 screen w/o scrolling, others don't see either of them & some of us (me) only see one. Though I used to not see any. I'm sure that has to do with screen size & what you're using to view. BTW, I'm only talking about Desktop here.
So, normally you set those to off & forget them. Which is what I did from the beginning until about 9 months ago, when they would suddenly turn on about once a month. Once was on a Thurs night & my husband & I (both IT techies to the max) watched it change & then seconds later, watched it change back. It was wild!
The problem lies in why is it happening, but also, if you don't SEE the choices on your screen, you have NO idea that it happened. Until you start getting 20 Counteroffers a day & you don't allow them.
Initially it would only happen about once a month & I eventually went to check & saw that my settings had been changed to ALLOW, but I didn't change it. I would NEVER turn that on. I never have & I never will. Then in the last 2 weeks or so, it's started happening a LOT more often, 5 times in the last 2 weeks that I noticed. One thing that's slightly different is now I get a popup when it happens, but again, with that option not appearing on my screen, I sometimes miss the pop up, cuz I'm flying through my SIO's. I have not been able to ID why or when it happens.
Anyway, no fixes yet. To get around it, just turn your slider off until the next time, but I am in touch with eBay about this situation & hoping we'll see some improvements soon.
Also, if anyone else has been experiencing this, it would be helpful to know. Please drop a quick note in here.
@pls-consignments I don't believe it's a recent glitch, b/c it's been happening to me for a very long time, as you can see in my explanation above.
@fern*wood I don't think it's 'your' fault or my fault b/c if the screen design is such that we don't see the options on our screen, we may not even know they are there! Even if we DO see them on our screen (see my explanation above), it's not our faults when something stays static for a month & then suddenly changes.

·1 year agoI think it's great and would like to see more posts like that.
eBay's recognizing an active topic and offering tips on how to handle it, and they're talking about upcoming changes. We've all been asking for that kind of communication from eBay. I hope they keep it up. ðŸ‘

Or perhaps because there have been a few posts recently claiming (erroneously) that eBay was lowering their prices without permission.

·1 year agoIt would have been nice to have seen (unless I missed it) this information posted back when this started. I was opted in without noticing the box was checked by ebay. It was my fault for not seeing the box, but then again, I had no idea this was coming either. Then I had to go back and manually remove the automatic offers one at a time since I did not wish to use that feature.

·1 year agoI was about to post something about that too!
I think the main drivers were the frequent questions/posts from people who think eBay is enabling automatic offers entirely without user input (when really it's just being enabled when they send offers, but it's admittedly a bad design that's easy to overlook and should be entirely opt-in and not opt-out like it is now), along with some type of changes being planned that hopefully will be for the best. Of course we know many eBay changes don't actually work out for the best, but I feel like that's usually when they're unannounced or unintentional changes, as opposed to ones like this that are planned and kinda announced to us (though it's hard to call it an announcement of changes that are coming when they don't actually tell us what the changes will be).
My hopes are as follows:
1. That automatic offers would be entirely opt-in instead of opt-out and would not be enabled without manual user input.
2. That there would be a quick way to at least disable automatic offers that are currently enabled on active listings, and perhaps even a quick way to edit the offer being sent.
I know, it's a lot to ask, but one can hope!

OP1 year agoGood points. Let's hope that its their way of acknowledging a design flaw that needs addressing. 😉
