Seller Cancelling A Sale

As a seller, what are the consequences of cancelling a sale and issuing full refund to buyer? Does EBay impose actual monetary penalty?

You have missed giving us a critical piece of information. What reason are you selecting when filing for the Cancellation?

Your options are:

Out of stock or damaged

Buyer asked to cancel

Issue with buyer's shipping address

We can only make guesses about what your needs are if we don't know the answer to this question. Also be advised that falsely selecting a reason when filing a Cancellation is abuse of the system and Ebay doesn't like that. It could cause you problems. I am not saying you were going to do that, we simply have incomplete information to know.

If the buyer requested to cancel (such as for that $575 Buyitnow sale you had yesterday) then you can do so with no penalty and Ebay will return their Final Value Fees as their part of that full refund. Be sure to select the Buyer Requested reason for cancelling and refunding.

P.S. Just saw your other post here about what the authentication service is for (added to your listing due to its high sale price). I hope you are not panicking and trying to cancel a sale that the buyer paid for fair and square.

You're OK if the buyer requested it; otherwise, be prepared for a "defect".

You will get dinged up on your Seller Performance level. If you are below the standard Ebay can limit your selling or suspend you. Transaction Defect Rate which stays on your record for 1 year. Don't cancel unless you truly have to and the buyer requests.

The only immediate monetary penalty is thta you lose the fixed fee of 40 cents (or 30 cents if the sale was under$10).

But if you have too many cancellations and are evaluated as a "Below Standard" seller, a penalty fee percentage will be added until you improve your seller rating.
