Seller BEWARE !!
I recently sold an item on eBay.
Buyer asked me to ship the item to an address other than his.
I complied with the sellers request
The seller received the item and acknowledged it through eBays meassage system.
I was happy
Buyer was happy
eBay was NOT
They are holding my funds for 30 days because of this.
They say "policy"
Any thoughts on this bit of corporate mindless insanity?

·9 months agoYour money is being held because you a new seller...& until you learn to use eBay and are more familiar with how the platform works, you are a higher risk to eBay as evident by what you did, changing the address. Don't do that. You need to follow ebay's policies, doesn't matter if you and the seller agreed to something different.

Well, yes, but it's not corporate mindless insanity, it's called eBay's rules and policies. Your heading "Seller BEWARE!!" should be directed to yourself because it appears you are not familiar with a lot of those rules and policies of selling on eBay.
Hopefully, eBay holding your funds for about 30 days will be the least of your worries. And as others mentioned, it is not a good idea to ship to an address other than the one eBay furnishes you with, even more so if it was one of the expensive items you sold.
Are you familiar with eBay's Money Back Guarantee and how it works? Did you know that you can have "no returns" on your listings but eBay's MBG overrides this and if a buyer files a "not as described" claim, you have to either accept the return and pay to have the item returned and upon your receipt, issue a refund; or if you don't want to pay to get the item back, you can just refund and let them keep the item.

·9 months agoYou may only ship to the buyer's address of record. If buyer requests that the item be shipped to a different address, the thing to do is to cancel the sale using "problem with buyer's address" or however it's phrased, have buyer change their address in eBay, and have them repurchase the item using their correct address.

·9 months agoSure: You did everything necessary for the buyer to possibly file a scam Item Not Received claim later on - something that could leave Ebay on the hook for a full refund if you do not have the funds to repay the buyer yourself.
Because you do not have Delivery Confirmation to the address received with the payment you would not have the necessary defense against an INR claim. Ebay would enforce a full refund to the buyer in that case and then have to come after you for the money (if you did not refund the buyer yourself when the claim was filed).
The 30-day hold would probably have happened anyway as you do not have an established record of recent sales. Thus any other similar sales may get that same temporary hold - although that will no longer occur once you get more sales completed within the coming weeks.
Please understand that you put your sale at risk by letting a buyer talk you into changing the delivery location to someplace other than the address received with the payment.

·9 months agoRight now eBay is a necessary evil. Delaying payments and holdbacks are all to get their average daily balance higher so they can make more money. All at your expense of course.

·9 months agonot really that big of a deal you will get paid after 30 days.
Any time I get a request to ship to a different address I will usually do it on most lower cost items but not on more expensive items but I understand that if the buyer claims that they never got it I am on my own and will have to refund

·9 months agoYes; the thought is that buyers have a 30 day Money Back Guarantee and ebay does NOT want to have to refund out of their pocket should the buyer decide to 'return for refund', so they hold the money.
Simple.
Also note; you are an infrequent seller selling an item that shipped 'freight' so there is no tracking that would show 'delivered' so that only complicates it more since there is no proof of delivery (feedback does NOT count).
