Seems a bit unethical to me??

When looking at some of my active adds I notice a banner now over the TOP of the add that reads consider similiar items and advertises some one elses store. This is not on the lower section where they are grouped together. I went to a random add and same thing happen , someone elses store is advertised across the very top. Seems unethical of Ebay to me when you are clicked onto a posted add to basically say 'hey look over here instead", when the seller is also paying seller fees for selling there items here. Sponsored items or not, when one is clicked onto a specific add, a carrot shouldn't dangle and appear to take him to a promoted listing.

Yes these banners are everywhere now, We just have to accept that fact & maybe use banners of are own.

Those sellers pay for that advertisement. As someone else said you only pay when an item sells so there is no cost to you.

As an approach, I like it. It is better to give buyers more options. Better for buyers equals better for eBay. Better for buyers equals better for the selling community – not necessarily certain individual sellers.

If you were on eBay for shopping, wouldn’t you want to have reasonable options laid out in front of you? Wouldn’t you like for eBay to make it easier for you to find good deals?

@btjfitter those are Promoted Stores cost per click ads which eBay has been showing in that spot and in search and other locations since they were introduced in late 2022/early 2023.

I guess I just never noticed the banner. If you were in a search or a group of items, but if your click on someone else's add and brought it up, it doesn't seem right. That's like a Walmart employee running a checkout stand for Target telling a customer look at Walmart before you buy here. Seems like a conflict of interest on Ebays part to try and pull a buyer away from a seller (that the buyer found through their own means ) and onto another so ebay can profit more through their promoted items.

Walmart actually sells "other vendors stuff" all the time. When you do a search on Walmart it will bring up different vendors (a just purchased items from 4 different vendors). Of course, Walmart must get a percentage of that sale.

SeveraI years, I went on Sears & Roebuck website looking for Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans. I found some advertisied and I thought that looks "exactly like the jeans I am selling". When I clicked on the item (it was my jeans) and took to my EBAY store.

@caldreamer not only that, Walmart also offers paid ad options for their third party marketplace sellers to have higher visibility across search and other locations just like eBay does.

You only pay selling fees when something sales.

Many people only use their allotment of free listings per month, and do not pay listing fees either. I presume that it was you were trying to say.

If you have a store, that isn't a fee. That is an optional service which you can discontinue at any time.

This practice would only be unethical if eBay did not disclose that they do that.

I believe eBay wants things to sell no matter who sells them. Showing buyers other items that may be cheaper or have some other feature may entice a buyer to click "Buy Now".

The trick is to have the tastier carrot.....................
