Seeking info.........
I placed this question in the stamp collectors section & have yet to get 1 reply, so I am trying here. I cannot find a value on this pairing of stamps. MNH 1998 Wales Walsall Regional Machin 20p w/ scarce 15-hole (horizontal) perforation error. Did a full search, including Google images & found nothing. Any idea of it's worth? Thank you for your time. 🙂

·9 months agoUsually you could find someone else selling these stamps on eBay.
Because of the time frame...instead of doing 'Great Britain Stamp'...I would do 'UK Stamp' or maybe ' Wales Stamp' and use those heading titles in stamps in eBay to see if anyone is selling such an item.
Generally speaking...watermark errors are more rare in Great Britain(UK) and command a nice profit.
Perforation errors are around...like in the early USA Washington stamps...those are rare.
But...scammers have been known to make such errors.
And usually one needs a document paper of the error by a reliable expert.
If it had a document paper stating the error by an expert it would be worth a lot or if an expert put his stamp on the back signaling it was expertised.
There's been many a times I get excited by something I think is rare...and lo and behold it isn't.
And the first stamp is badly damaged by the color at the top right...stamp collectors are extremely picky and would identify that as 'damaged'.
Plus if there is a hinge mark on the back that lowers the value of a stamp tremendously...

OP9 months agoHello. There is no damage to the stamp. This just might be a lighting issue with the photo. Both stamps have the same color. The original buyer bought these from a gentleman named Mike Holt. He was a well-known international philatelic dealer/collector. I will believe his expertise when describing the stamps that are received. No hinge marks, either. As I stated, they are MNH.

·9 months agoI don't know anything about stamps and even less about stamp errors. But I used Google Image Search, then entered "Value" in ask a follow up. Google AI returned:

·9 months agoI was thinking it's that gap at the bottom that was the "error" (the gap isn't an error, I seem to not know what I"m talking about).
I think this deserves best answer.

That's not a perforation error, that's how stamps were perforated for a period of time. They had that gap near the bottom on either side.

·9 months agoThe stamp on the left does look pretty wide. They might have printed a few batches of these before someone noticed it and they corrected that left vertical perf row back over one (closer) in the machine.
As far as value in errors, that's pretty subjective. There usually isn't a set value, it's a vastly smaller market. It could be rare though, just have to list it and see if anyone bites. I would continue researching WMMH70 error in more dedicated stamp forums, the ebay stamp guys won't be bothered with machins...

·9 months agoWould start with what you paid for them as a willing buyer. Other wise they are worth a bag full of Beanie Babies.

·9 months agoAre you sure the 15 perf version isn't just a different perf version and not an error? My Scott cat shows both a 15x14 and a 14x14, the 15 being more common. I would research more on that cat number, or better yet an SG number if you find one. Good luck~

OP9 months agoThe description of this, on the form that was included with the grouping of stamps sent to the buyer says, "Wales 20p Walsall perforation error originating from the early printing. The first vertical row of stamps have extra horizontal perforation hole (15 instead of 14), producing an extra wide stamp. Scarce."

OP9 months agoThese were purchased by a serious collector from an established British philatelic business. They are not fake.

·9 months agoIf the serious collector can remember what he paid for them that might give you a starting point.
Do you have access to a Scott Stamp catalog?
sakic92710
OP9 months agoI do not have that access. I don't know who the collector is or if he is even alive. The collection was purchased by a friend & I bought it from him. The original dealer / collector who everything was purchased from was Mike Holt. He passed away 16 years ago.
