·1 week agoI got one too! Different username, but same general format (the urgency of "24 hours", "mandatory security check" that's standard protocol, etc).
I don't use the forums over the weekends, so I'm sensing it's been longer than 24 hours for me.

Etsy also uses Bevy for their community forums and experienced this exact same problem with scammers using that as an opportunity to target users.
Their solution? Lock the entire forum behind a login wall so that no one could even read it without being signed in to an active seller account....for "security reasons" you know.
When I saw eBay was switching to Bevy, my first thought was "how long will it be before these forums also get made private?"
Given what we've seen so far as far as how things are being handled around here...let's just say I'm not hopeful.

·1 week agoPossibly. I would assume that the company itself still has input/control over how things are implemented, so a lot would depend on how eBay decided they wanted it done if they ever do go that route.
The Etsy community was already pretty much almost exclusively seller focused any way and before they locked it down, it had already been set up so that you had to have an active seller account to post or reply for quite some time - for anyone else it was read only.
When Etsy made the decision to make almost the whole forum completely private (originally they left technical issues and announcements publicly readable, then eventually they made it only announcements), it was after a major uptick in spam/scam messages like the OP here describes.
Etsy explicitly said it was due to security/privacy protection concerns, though some of us suspected Etsy also probably at least didn't mind that it made it harder for outside observers to track issues sellers were experiencing/changes on the platform.
Presumably, eBay has the same technical capabilities available to them now through Bevy, so they could do something similar at any point, if they wanted to.
That doesn't necessarily mean it would look exactly the same - they could potentially still allow both buyers and sellers, but require some measure of "activity" or some other criteria.

·1 week agoI received it also but figured it was a scam as the user name just registered yesterday. I didn't even bother going to the web site. If anybody else gets it or anything like it, just forward to spoof@ebay.com.

OP1 week agoVery real looking.....when clicking on the link takes you to a page with a verification link to fill in.....with cc #, etc. which I did not do.........says my account is restricted....I snapped then to check Ebay messages and my email server........no messages at all there about it.

·1 week agoBut if you hover over the link, the link is not an eBay.com link and such a message wouldn’t come from a random user without @ebay included in their username.

I would automatically think this is a scam attempt because of not showing up in your eBay messages and has come to you thru the community.
