I'm with @tarotfindsandmore... no refund without return. Have your buyer open a return request, get the items back before refunding, re-price, re-list and re-sell. And block that buyer when this is done. Good luck.
What makes those buyers a high risk demographic? How can you tell who they are?
Probably more 'high risk items', but the demographic that would scam a seller would make that terminology just as correct.
(does NOT mean 'ALL) but, because many that collect this type stuff watch Tiktok and Youtube videos of how easy it is to 'get stuff for free'.... and or ......
they 'sell' this type stuff, hone in on 'newer' sellers to get 'collectibles' to sell and make much higher profits by paying nothing etc.
Happens with collector Sneakers, Handbags, High end jewelry, gold, coins, Gaming systems and computer gaming parts etc. MUCH More than it does $70 Jackets or Vintage $100 Salt/Pepper shakers.
I'll bet if 100 'scam product types' were listed, 80 were from these 'type' things.
Same, but I don't do auctions at all anymore for this very reason.
A good lot will always make more money if it's broken up and the items are sold individually. Auctions are an okay option if you have a bunch of oddball cheapie items that you just want to unload, but BIN is the way to go with anything that has even a little bit of value.
I just looked at the feedback with the buyer's pic and it does appear there were at least a few items that arrived damaged. With that in mind, you could reasonably offer a partial refund for just those items. I can't see exactly which items they are but you probably know the value of those three figures. If there are additional damaged items, have him send you pics of them, so you can refund him for those as well. As it stands, if there were 21 items and 3 are damaged, you do owe him about a hundred bucks (1/7th of 700.00) if all the figures have roughly the same value.
I'm not sure the buyer is a scammer, but he may well be trying to capitalize on your error. In the future, when you sell carded figures, wrap them individually in bubble wrap with additional padding between the blister and the top edge of the card. This will stabilize the figure, card, and blister so they don't bend and/or separate. Yes, it's a lot of work but it will save you time, money, and hassle in the long run. Also, if you're going to keep selling lots, you can tetris the carded figures face-to-face with a piece of bubble between two and then pack the pairs back to back and wrap the bundle with even more bubble to protect everything.
Its funny you mentioned that I honestly tried to offer a $100 refund but he's so hell bent that I should be held responsible for the imaginary damage even though I did tetris pack like you said (something I pride myself on) the items were wrapped 2 fold and boxed so there would be no shifting to damage anything. I have literally been messaging him all day and it just seems like he's trying to use buyer protection to keep the items and get money back.
Ummm, no. You don't send a refund until you get the items back. Tell the buyer to open a return and let them know you'll process the refund immediately upon receipt of the returned items.
Btw, is there a reason you're charging 96.90 for shipping a single figure? You might want to fix that if you want to sell that item.
It was a lot of 21 figures most of which are out of production, I provided individual photos and the buyer has been emailing me all day instead of filing the claim that the items were damaged but I'm finding out he's a reseller
Well whatever you do, do not send him a penny until you get your items back. I can see from the "private" feedback that he is likely a seller, but that doesn't really matter for your purposes. Just tell him to start a return, pack up the items, and ship them back to you. You'll refund him the minute you have your items in hand. He most assuredly knows what he's doing, and is counting on the fact that you don't ...but you have all of us so you do. If he tries to push the matter, politely stand your ground and report him.
(the shipping on that single Hot Toys figure still needs to be corrected btw)
I literally have 13 email responses from the buyer I tried to be fair and reasonable but it didn't work mainly because I know being a collector is one of the reasons why I know he's lying because if he was so upset why didn't he just open a case instead of trying to get a refund and keep the items

·8 months agoI see two sales in the account that you have posted from that appear to appeal to a high risk demographic.
You are rightly concerned. Many sellers would not sell these items online because of the very real risks associated with doing so.

It looks like the buyer of the lot in question may actually be a seller, the feedback is private.

That bidder I would have blocked his bids after a few days.

'full refund and keep items'....
This buyer as well as a seller would never say this if they were nice.
I see maybe even a possible credit card dispute with buyer on this.

Alas, I am NOT telling you to do this...but...
Buyer has to open a claim and do a return or something...emails back and forth will create a 'pen-pal' so only one email is needed.
