sales tax issue (2018)
The Missouri Department of Revenue has instructed me to tell them what part of my sales in 2018 happened to be within our own state (missouri) in for them to collect sales tax on those items. There does not seem to be a way for them to get the location for all my sales in that year. Seems like they started a new system in 2020 that will not give me the location information. I would just like to be able to enter the buyers ID number to come up with the state or country for the buyers that purchased material from me in 2018. Please let me know if you have any hints for me to use. Thanks so much and have a great Christmas & New Year.

·3 years agoAdding to this thread for future recipients of the MO DOR letter. After talking with MO DOR, as long as you were selling personal items, or were reselling items where sales tax was already paid by you (reselling something you purchased at retail like Walmart), you are not required to file the MO sales tax. If the items you have resold were purchased from a tax-exempt source, that is when you are liable for MO sales tax to MO residents.
On the received letter, check the third line item (Not required to file), and write/sign a letter stating "all items sold were either liquidating personal assets or selling items which sales tax was paid on."
Prepare to receive future letters (2019-2022), but continue to follow the above each time.
