    Sales Tax

Does ebay collect sales tax on all coins sold?  I am not a dealer, selling some of my collection and ebay has been charging sales tax in the states where it is applicable. A customer told me he has not been paying sales tax from other sellers on 90% silver coins.  Just curious if I am listing them incorrectly.  Thanks for any information.

Although eBay does collect state sales taxes on purchases when/if applicable, eBay has no say on the percentage or on what is taxed.  Those factors are established by the individual taxing jurisdictions as determined by the buyer's mailing address.

Don't sell or  every have sold coins - but  eBay  establishes the  sales tax amount  to be collected  from each and every eBay transaction on behave of  the seller.  You & ever other seller have zero  input in the ST matter - but  sellers do get to pay an eBay fee on the amount of sales tax for money processing.

Your buyer maybe be right or maybe wrong on his claim  of not paying ST on 90% of purchases.  Only eBay can and/or the buyer can validate that claim.

Sales tax collection is a forever changing matter.  Stay away from this issue it's beyond your control - you might wont to find a  contact at eBay your buyer can talk to about his claim.

BTW sales taxes are distributed every quarter to the various taxing authorities and  they  are vary "hungry" to collect more new revenue do the  state, count, city  sales tax collections.

Everything depends on the address of the buyer & the sales tax requirements for coins/rounds in each particular state. Some states collect "0" sales tax on coins/rounds whiles others collect sales tax at certain dollar values. From the seller's perspective, just make sure you're in the correct collectible category.

I don't sell coins so I can only give you some general answers.........

eBay determines by Category/Sub Category, to ensure the taxation is accurate it's important to list in the current category.

What is and isn't taxable is set by individual States, so it's possible to have items that are taxable in one State but not in another.

Generally the tax ability of coins / precious metals depends on their purity.
