Sales Dead Since May Updates of 2022. Glitches?
I know I'm wading into the mire here and the only reason I'm bothering is in an attempt to get someone's attention at eBay. I don't think anyone on this board can fix these issues. Why not just contact customer service? Not insulting the folks at customer service, it's just the reality of the distance between management, engineers, and customer service. I've tried.
My sales plummeted when the May 18th updates went into affect and have never recovered. My current 90 day sales total is less than what I was doing in a month before mid-May. It happened at the very moment that update occurred. The economy didn't get bad that day. There wasn't a stock market crash that day or major world event that day. There have been short-lived upswings in sales since then but nothing sustained. I know the economy is a huge factor but that should have had a gradually increasing impact, not overnight.
My theory is this. I can see glitches on eBay that don't get fixed. What are the glitches I can't see? I don't believe the management of eBay maliciously set out to harm my sales. Why would they? However, I do think that engineering isn't testing their updates enough and/or fixing issues that aren't catastrophic to the site as a whole.
Glitches I've seen since the May updates that haven't been addressed;
- For large items like mirrors or floor speakers, eBay charges the customer almost twice what they are charging me for shipping for the exact same dimensions. Example, it will charge the customer $200 for shipping and charge me $100 for the shipping label.
- Fields in the listing format that erase themselves after I fill them in.
- I've had 1 international sale since the May updates. International sales used to make up about a quarter of my total sales.
- Search results for my items are all over the place. Sometimes they show up, sometimes they don't. I use the suggested PL % for every listing.
Those are a few off the top of my head. So, what glitches might exist behind the scenes in the search engine and/or algorithm? Could we try a hard re-set?😠Bring the bots back? They bought stuff. I liked the bots.ðŸ˜Perhaps these issues only affect a few categories and I just happen to sell in those categories? By the sound of all the complaints since then the unresolved issues affect quite a few of us. By now, the worsening economy may have caught up with us and fixes on the engineering side might not help that much but it would be nice to at least know it was an economy thing and not an eBay thing.
Ebay doesn't read any posts here. You are addressing other eBay sellers and buyers here.
I'm a seller and haven't had a drop in sales as you describe.
Several things come into play here
1. During the pandemic there was a sales surge for online sellers. Because B&B stores where all closed. Not so much now.
2. More internet sales competition
3. People are sticking to buying necessities
4. Economy people are paying upward of $5-6 a gallan for gas cost of food has gone up. I can go on and on...
Those are just a few.
So it's not ebay glitches.
