Revision of Star Ratings from buyers?
In our listings, buyers are asked to rate a seller with stars after a purchase transaction. I try hard to be very meticulous with accuracy and precise details for any item I sell but apparently one of my buyers felt differently but never mentioned it. They recorded a less than 5-star grade/rating. "Shipping or shipping fees" I can understand. I don't believe anyone is happy about costs of shipping these days, I have 4.9 stars in that category, but all the others have always been 5 stars until recently. Is there a way to find out who left the less than a 5-star rating so I can ask why and if they would consider revising it? Or can they? I'm a buyer too and that's something I look at when I'm searching for an item/seller to buy from so I know it's important. Thank you. Comments?

·1 year agoI find the star rating VERY unfair to sellers. I pride myself on great pictures, disclosing any imperfections, shipping next day and great communication, and I've gone from 100% Seller for 8 years down to 94.7% in just three months. I don't understand why and WHO the buyers are that do this. The fact that they won't leave a written review, I find that cowardly. At least then, the seller can politely respond. These star ratings are out of our control. Ebay is trusting a buyer's star rating,*who they don't even know their motive( and not finding out why, or giving seller a heads up. They may be in a bad mood, or shipping was delayed (not my fault) or just plain mean ....when they decide to give a low star rating ... and there is no way to contact the buyer to see what's wrong. Why not write it out so at least seller's can appease the situation. eBay is assuming that buyers (many who are scammers this year in 2025) are always right, and it's becoming a real problem. BTW: I have no problems with Mercari , Poshmark, or FB Marketplace.
Detailed ratings aka Stars are not counted against sellers and are pretty much irrelevant and meaningless.

I would worry more about your feedback. Most buyers won’t buy from a seller with less than 98%.

·3 years agoThey ARE displaying them more prominently now at the bottom of our listings. They even use the numbers instead of the colored stars, but I never did the reports or anything back when ebay used them against us in our seller ratings, so I'm sure not going to stress over them now.
I'm sure they can't be revised and that seems like a waste of energy even if you could.

·3 years agoNo one has 5 stars for shipping cost any more unless everything was listed with free shipping so don't worry about it.

·3 years agoNot sure many even look at the stars, most look at the feedback. I've got all 5's except shipping, 4.9, honestly I don't like my own shipping rate either lol. But what ya gonna do when shipping keeps going up 2-3 times a year.

·3 years agoFB and Star ratings are just someone else's opinion. We all see things differently and I know well I never received perfect grades during my formal educations years and work performance appraisals.
Everything will be alright with that mini ding.

·3 years agoWhy would buyers care about DSRs anymore when MBG trumps everything?
TBH, if I had a choice I would run from a buyer who buys from me just because of my 5.0 communication DSR rating.

·3 years agoAt one time there was a report that you could download to tell you which orders had lower DSR ratings. They did away with that.

·3 years agoI feel like I'm in a time warp back to the very early days of DSR's when the fee discounts were based on them (remember 5 or 10 or 15% off fees depending on your Stars?). If you got too many 1's and 2's you would live in fear of an MC011 dropping at any moment.
There were a few famous boardies that used some fancy workarounds and formulae to figure out who left them a 4 instead of a 5, they would immediately block those buyers, After all who could ever live a normal life knowing that they showed a lowly 4.8 or 4.9 rating publicly......how embarrassing!
There is no way to know who rated you. If they rated you at all, feedback can be left without ever touching those stars.
Those ratings are not like feedback, they can’t be revised.

·3 years agoAs far as I know, stars can not be revised.
Only way to know which buyer it was would require that you had checked star ratings after every feedback to see when.
The "stars" could have bee an error. There buyers that mark the wrong end of the stars by mistake.
Anyone just glancing at your feedback would see bright yellow stars that look full.

·3 years agoI'm sorry but I'm in disagreement with you, but it's your account. I don't believe there is any way for a buyer to retract the stars, those are different from an overall feedback comment. If it is possible someone will quickly post that. Asking a buyer why they gave you less than a 5 star rating is simply poking the bear mentality. Feedback is no longer the game changer it used to be. Folks are very busy and don't have the time or inclination to bother. The star ratings are of even less importance.
If I had left you positive feedback with only 4 stars and you actually asked me why, for starters I would never purchase from you again. Once again, this is my opinion. Best of luck to you....
