Return to Sender processed
Recently I’ve been getting a number of packages returned or returning to me where the tracking info says “Return to sender processed†when the package is at its final USPS location. But it doesn’t say anything else in regards to that. When these RTS packages show up, they just have that white sticker on it saying Return to Sender and nothing else. When I ask the carrier they just shrug.
When I ask the 800 number all they say is that the recipient initiated the RTS. I usually find out about these from the buyer complaint or INR. When I tell them about the RTS, they always claim that they never asked USPS to RTS the package.
Has this happened to anyone else lately? I wonder what could be the cause of this.

Go into the order and use the 'more actions' drop down menu and choose 'send refund'. Then refund the original item price minus shipping, and choose the reason 'other adjustment'.
Write in the message box: This item was returned to sender as undeliverable by the USPS, so according to ebay guidelines, I am refunding the original purchase price of the item minus the shipping cost I incurred.
If you refund this way, choosing the correct reason as 'other adjustment', you will not be given any kind of ding or defect on your account by ebay.
The buyer can still leave negative feedback, however, you can probably get that removed depending on what exactly they say. Here's the ebay feedback policy, including when a feedback can be removed:

Edited to add: You technically don't have to refund anything at all when an item in undeliverable, but I always recommend refunding the purchase price because a buyer might open a chargeback with their credit card if they see they haven't been refunded.

Do NOT refund until you actually receive the item back.

·8 months agoI have a question about how this effects my eBay account standing? If I do a partial refund (what should I include/exclude), and will it negatively affect my account? The item I sold is being returned for "no such number." (This is a Miami freight forwarder which is using zip 33195 but apparently delivery is to zip 33166. I assume USPS doesn't want to pay for delivering to the wrong zip so it's being returned. From what I understand this is ongoing issue.) I don't have a lot of feedback but I really don't want to get dinged. I paid $12.89 for shipping, signature confirmation & insurance on a $140.50 sale. Anyone know the answer? Thanks!

·9 months agoHad one two months ago. What happened in this case was that the buyers address had something wrong. In this case the buyers address (from ebay) had PLACE when it actuality it should have been LANE. Pretty minor but still caused the RTS.
So maybe there is something just a little bit off in the address.

·9 months agoIf the buyer "returns to sender" -- I think that voids their money back guarantee.
However, when I receive the item back, I refund less the shipping (and put the buyer on the list.)

OP9 months agoIt does void it. But still I’d like to find out what’s actually causing this RTS where the buyer denies ever doing it.
