Restricted, Prohibited Items? eBay Has Sunk to a New Low!
I reported 2 items yesterday for being prohibited (HA!) on eBay and they responded that they looked into my report and said they didn't find the listing to be in violation of our policy. The items are

·2 years agoOh honey, ebay does what ebay wants. An item might be prohibited for one seller, but another can fill their shop with the same prohibited item and ebay says it's not prohibited. I am reported a lot..rhe industry I am in is obnoxiously competitive. Ebay removes my very much permitted products but let's others sell the same thing. So annoying

·2 years agoI just don't get the type of people who feel the need to be policy enforcers over some used laundry.
I get it, it's not technically allowed.
But some times people should just mind their own business IMHO.

·2 years agoI think I read somewhere that used undergarments, socks and shoes are going to be a focus category and Iannone is going to personally be the authenticator.

Really think so?

·2 years agoOf course I think so. He has exceeded his capacity to drive eBay into the ground, so may as well hang out around locker rooms and sniff socks and underwear when nobody is looking.

·2 years agoOmg i just posted about this exact thing! I had a listing removed and it WAS brand new and they removed it yet there are all these used pairs.
Same standards should apply and it's a pain when they delete your listing and say you can't relist it even after they make a mistake!

·2 years agoI guess my existential question, is who cares?

·2 years agoI see listing violations on ebay all the time.
As long as I'm not buying it, I couldn't care less.
Life's too short to worry about other people listing violations.

·2 years agoShall we all stand up and sing and shout:
I see listing violations on ebay all the time.
As long as I'm not buying it, I couldn't care just fine.
Life's too short to worry about other people listings that are so un-sublime.

As I said in another post, the only listings I ever reported were those in violation of the Federal Indian Arts & Crafts Act of 1990 and is part of eBay policy (quoted below) but it was a waste of my time as eBay never pulled any of the listings I reported over several years, although the violations were clear.
"Listings for Native American arts, crafts, and jewelry must follow all government regulations.
"Non-Native American items in the style of Native American art or crafts must be listed in the Non-Native American category."

·2 years agoYears ago people used to sell super used shoes to foot fetish fans. There was a term for it people would put in titles. EBay pulled down any ad that engaged in the fetish. Kinda ironic since you can buy all kinds of adults toys/movies on Ebay.

·2 years agoThe stinky shoe market (otherwise known as the Stinky Shoe Market) was hot for some years back in the olden days - eBay even had a list of rules of how to list your stinky shoes without being in violation of policy and it was pretty detailed, given what it was (I've always been curious about the people who created those rules to begin with - how far down that rabbit hole were they?). There used to be trade wars between various stinky shoe sellers with some rising to dominance. I found the entire thing hilarious.
All...all gone now.

Oooo Wee... What up with dat', what up with dat!
I guess I don't understand...
"Honey your feet are smellin' pretty bad..."
"Oh they're not mine! You know how important recycling is to our daughter and I saved $25 bucks too!"
"Oh dear... You didn't notice her gagging at the dinner table?"
"Of course I did, I thought it was you're cooking."

·2 years agoI pondered that I could have gotten all of the stinky shoes anyone ever wanted from my bike racing team, but the whole list of requirements was so proscriptive and I didn't want to start up another ID for them, anyway. Plus I'd have to handle them for listing. 😬

·2 years agoI found that out.. I used to buy clothing by the pallet load. One load was all lingerie, bras, panties, things like that. In my hurry to get things listed, I listed one of the bras, a white satin bra and made a typo. I switched the letter a and the letter t in the word satin.
The bra sold for a ridiculous amount. I emailed the buyer and explained the issue and they said no problem just send it.
along with a few “ can you take a picture of you wearing the lingerie and send it to me?â€
No more of that market for me!
That was back in the day when used underwear was able to be sold… just eww.

·2 years agoThere was a long thread on the UK forum where a buyer was complaining about a seller not answering a question about some jeans condition.
Apparently this buyer buys lots of expensive brands of jeans torn or otherwise. But the important condition is they must be unwashed.
I guess it takes all sorts.

·2 years agoUnwashed denim is in a whole other realm. Google "how often should you wash your jeans".

·2 years agoIt's been much worse. Way back when eBay started someone was selling some used kids underwear. A buyer contacted the seller saying he was a " collector " and the spiderman ones were very rare. Soon the requests started and the seller started to understand what was going on.
That is when eBay banned used kids ones and required all clothes be washed. It was creepy to say the least.

Once I saw a listing for a "Smelly used bra...worn for 2 weeks" I reported it. Someone bought it for over $31. Since bras are allowed, it didn't violate any policies. It takes all kinds I guess.
Happy Selling

·2 years agoCorrect, even vintage used underwear isn't allowed to be sold here, but I wouldn't call this a "new low".

They are allowed to sell unused underwear on the bay. Was that word anywhere in the description?
IDK, I wouldn't worry about that listing, just pay no never mind, ( southern talk!)

OP2 years agoThank you for your reply. If you look at the photos, there are stains in the gussets. Clearly used. I just would rather not weed through listings that should not even be there.

·2 years agoeBay policy enforcement has never been comprehensive, timely or accurate.
With 1.5 billion items listed, I suspect eBay has a set budget for resources to investigate community-reported violations.
I suspect that community-reported violations are triaged by a bot for an initial determination based on the bot scanning the listing and the seller's history of reports and violations.
If the listing gets by the bot without being flagged, no human ever sees it or reviews it and the bot's decision stands.
I'm not sure this qualifies as "new low", I can think of a bunch of things that eBay has done that I consider worse.

Thank you for an informative answer without the snark that so many others on here find cute.

·2 years agoThe seller does not list the condition. There are just a couple of dashes after the word "Condition" and there is no reference to condition in the Item specifics or Description otherwise. The stain is clearly visible. I guess the fetish crowd have learned to look for listings where condition is not stated.
